I write this from the terrace, overlooking the beautiful pool of my amazingly affordable, beautiful room. Suffice to say, this in my view is as good as tourist accommodation gets anywhere in the world.
The hotel is perfectly located off the busy calle 60 offering a short walk to many of Merida's attractions. However, such is the pleasant surrounding of the hotel along with the warmth and cheerfulness of the staff you may soon find yourselves not wanting to leave the surrounds of the hotel at all!
To start with the staff, all of whom have been encountered have been fluent in English, kind, helpful and funny. The owner, Tom, also provides his own printed map of the district with handy hints as to restaurants, sights, etc. It also contains recommendations as to tours, of which the Chichen Itza one was one of the best tours of my life.
The hotel also provides great creature comforts such as a few large common sitting rooms, a drinks trolley for a night cap and two welcome beers in your fridge upon checking in. The swimming pool is also beautiful.
As for the room itself it was large and contained a large bathroom. Also had a large, flatscreen tv with Mexican cable (if that's your thing), along with comfortable beds, and a kitchen containing a large fridge, microwave, oven, coffee maker (including freshly ground coffee)! and other comforts I probably haven't discovered yet.
This particular room also contains both a balcony and terrace overlooking the pool each with its own hammock.
Honestly, this place is better and cheaper than the apartment I live in at home. I am unsure as to why I'm ever going to leave.
