Owner description: Hacienda Yaxcopoil (YASH-coh-poh-EEL) is a Yucatan plantation dating back to the 17th century. The hacienda has been the location of several film and television productions, and is featured in most travel guides. Its archives are frequently cited in historical texts and research. The Hacienda may be the best preserved but unrestored hacienda in the Yucatan. The Hacienda is open daily for tours, a private guest house, museum of Mayan artifacts, gift shop, snack bar and events.

“Visit in the late afternoon, the light is wonderful then.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

I have visited hacienda yaxcopoil many many times and always enjoy a wander around the grounds and the village. I love to visit in the evening when the light is wonderful and the buildings look fabulous against the sunsets. There are always groups of mainly women playing softball in early evening in the large area next to the hacienda and its lovely to sit and watch them play and the young lads from the village excercising and training their horses and practising their cowboy skills. I usually stop off at hacienda Yaxcopoil after visiting uxmal or some of the many cenotes in the area. Its a great place and worth a 2 mindetour from the main raod. However the recent increase in admission is not so welcome and often now the guys who work in the hacienda no longer show you around like they used to, dont know why.

“A step back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

What an interesting view of a hacienda that produced sisal in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The grounds are beautifully kept and the buildings and furnishings are well maintained and remain as they were when the hacienda was in production, including artwork, chandeliers, and the accounting books for the hacienda. In the production area, you can see the machinery that shredded the henequen, and learn from photos how it was produced and dried. This is definitely worth a stop, it will take you back in time!

“Special and worthy of a visit.”

Wander the grounds, enjoy a light luncheon menu. Relax and let your imagination take you back in time to gain a true sence of how it may have been . . .

“Unpolished and natural state”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Hacienda Yaxcopoil is one of my favourite ones. Its natural state is un matched to any of the other revamped,re constructed done up for the tourists, who are encouraged to eat in the restuarants.
If you are looking to see the original furnishings still in tact and displayed then this is for you.The kitchen is also in its original state and quite interesting. The people that look after the place dont speak english but they do enjoy showing the place with pride.

“Untouched History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

I have visited Hacienda Yaxcopoil three times. I enjoy the untouched construction beauty there. It is special because it has not been restored, but is still in quite good condition. Many of the other haciendas in the area have been restored, so the authenticity of the original site is diluted. I like the other restored haciendas, but I also value the unspoiled original state of this one. It is a peaceful meandering stroll best enjoyed with friends.
