“Interesting little town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Visited this cute little town on a cruise stop and was pleasantly surprised. It's a small port town and has shopping, and Mayan ruins nearby and other attractions I didn't get to see. I'd like to go back and visit again for a longer period of time. It's quaint and not as busy as some ports. The history is very interesting.

“Fun Time :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

got off here on a cruise... visited Dzibilchaltn ruins & the cenote there... beautiful place.. got to swim in the crystal clear cenote with little fish nipping @ you :)... the trip there was approx. 25 min from the port after getting a taxi which we paid $60.00 for a lot cheaper than what the ship was selling the tour for :) the taxi drive waits for you there & we had approx. 2 hrs to look around... there was plenty of time to see the ruin & swim :) once back in town walked around seeing the town & stopped for lunch but that's another review LOL

“carnival tour..discover the yucatan and mayan world”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Wonderful tour. Took bus tour to Mayan ruins, a church, a cemetery and the Reef Resort. Jerry was our tour guide and gave good information about the Progresso, Mexico area. The lunch at the Reef resort was a combination of local favorites and American selections like burgers and fries. Tour time was just right and allowed some time for shopping back to the boat.

“Auto Progresso Excursion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

We were in Progresso on Ocotber 23, 2013..we were goign to walk to the free beach...decided it did nto look safe..booked through auto progresso an all inclusive Beach tour for $35 a piece. We were given the option of going to some ruins which we did. Very glad we did...they were beautiful. then back to the beach for lunch and drinks. The chicken was good but the other dishes were not that great...the drinks were ok but not great. That is ht eonly reason i am only giving them a 4 out of 5 the food and drinks could have been better.

“A few very pleasant hours (with William Lawson Tours)…”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

A group of 10 came off a cruise ship in Progresso for a brief stop (just over 4 hours). Lucky for us, our unofficial tour leader made arrangements with William Lawson Tours for a quick but very satisfying afternoon. Apparently William Lawson Tours will build a custom itinerary (which was perfect for our group since time was limited). Delays getting into port caused us to be almost an hour late to meet our guide, Angel, but he was waiting patiently for us to arrive. As we headed out of town (in a comfortable Mercedes passenger van), Angel overheard the group talking about beer and had the driver (George) stop at a bodega to pick-up a selection of local brews. The bodega did not handle US currency, so Angel picked up the tab (he did not even ask us to reimburse him but of course we did at the end of the trip). After picking up the refreshing beer, we stopped at a cenote (which is basically a sinkhole in limestone bedrock filled with ground water). This was a new experience for all 10 in our group. The opening was small in comparison to the size of the pool but extended well back into a cavern structure. The water was clear, cool, and deep (with ropes tied around for safety and exploration). After splashing around and a little cave exploration we dried off with towels provided by our guide. After this we were taken to the house belonging to our host, Ralf, for a delectable (authentic Yucatan) lunch. I did not ask, so I’m not sure how typical this was but being invited into someone’s lovely home for lunch is comforting and relaxing to say the least. Among other amenities, Ralf offered up a beautiful swimming pool for a cool afternoon dip. Ralf’s home has a stunning courtyard where we enjoyed a variety of beverages, appetizers, sandwiches (e.g., pulled pork with habenaro suace), and tacos. The food, the drink, and the camaraderie were all exceptional. The afternoon just flew by and after we had our fill of food and fun (and there was more of each than we could finish), it was time to say good-bye to Ralf. Angel and George got use back to the cruise ship with a few minutes to spare (but only after stopping at a market to allow us to pick-up some supplies to take onboard the ship). My only regret is we did not have more time to spend in Progresso with Ralf and Angel (but I am looking forward to a return visit). My entire company can recommend William Lawson Tours in Progresso for a satisfying afternoon (or all-day) adventure.
