I stayed at this hotel for 12 nights while leading a study abroad group from Alaska. It was recommended by my tour operator (Maya Holidays) when the hotel I had stayed in on previous vists was being renovated. The garden/courtyard area is lovely. the staff was very helpful when I needed copies and printers. The desk clerks speak English very well. Service was excellent. Due to the small size of the hotel, the desk clerks are able to remember your name and room number, and they do all they can to help you. One night I was very cold, and I asked for an extra blanket at about 2am. It was delivered very quickly. Laundry service was also exceptional. The location is fantastic, close (within walking distance) to several great restaurants and it is easy to find a taxi or take a bus. I highly recommend this hotel, without reservation.

We were originally at the Luz, and planned on leaving Merida to drive to Tuluum, but the approaching hurricane didnt allow us to do that. So were stuck in Merida without a hotel. We felt lucky to have found this hotel that had some rooms available. The room (2 full beds) was VERY small - didnt look as nice as the pics. Only 2 towels in the bathroom. Internet worked only sometimes. Breakfast was just okay - located in a small dining room downstairs. Get there early or you'll be limited because they dont replenish the food - when its gone, its gone. That fountain downstairs is REALLY noisy. I probably wouldnt stay there again ,unless of course I was running from a hurricane.

Hotel Maison Lafette – Merida
Avoid this hotel. The staff was friendly enough, until someone swiped all our medication. Medication with little street value – but, could easily kill someone if they have a weak heart, or a thyroid. Once I told the manager it was immediately assumed that we had misplaced the three pill bottles and that a staffer couldn’t have taken them. And – yes – I know, always split up critical pills so this doesn’t ruin your trip. We have always followed that rule until today. With running away from the hurricane and everything we let our guard down since we were so happy to have found an empty room.
Thankfully the Dolores Alba had a room – and they are fabulous. Actually much, much nicer than the Maison Lafette.
It's an OK hotel in a good location. Common areas are nice. Nice pool. Ok breakfast. But rooms are rather basic. They look much better on the pictures on the hotel website than they really are. It's nice to have the free internet access. They now have 2 computers in the lobby.
