“Best Kept Secret In Merida!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2008

My husband & I stayed this summer (the end of July 2008) as well as last year with our teen-age daughter & will keep going back to Medio Mundo for many reasons.

The location is convenient to the town square & it's a short taxi ride to the bus station to take day trips to Uxmal or the beach of Progresso. The staff is quick to offer any assistance in getting around, finding a great place to eat or even shop.

In the morning, you have the choice of having an amazing breakfast of fresh fruits, juices, breads/rolls, cold cuts/cheeses or going out to a local eatery. We always took our breakfast at the hotel around the swimming pool with the ever attentive staff keeping an eye on our needs. Why venture out when everything we wanted was there?

The hotel is beautifully restored, really like a quiet tropical oasis in the "big city". Rooms are large and the hotel ambiance reflects its peaceful history of being "home" to a former convent. You'll find the air conditioning is cool without being noisy & the little "boutique" in the hotel office is where we bought many of our unique gifts.

In fact we contacted Nicole thru email & purchased a Guatamalen blanket we regrettably did not purchase prior to leaving. Nicole was awesome in getting our blanket to us in less than a week!

Love, love, love the kind owners & staff of Medio Mundo!!! We cannot wait to return :)

What can you say? MedioMundo is an absolutely lovely place in Merida. Friendly service, delicious breakfast, great (spacy) rooms, nice atmosphere and a top spot in Merida. We stayed 2 nights and had the best time!

Great, great service!

We stayed in a lovely room on the second floor overlooking a delightfully constructed garden and rockery.

The service was oustanding- gracious, helpful and they even taught me Spanish!

Highly recommended.

We have just returned from a family (ages ranging from 15-54) tour of the Yucatan, with 3 nights spent at the Medio Mundo. The hotel was exemplary - great breakfast, very pleasant rooms, good pool, and wonderful, friendly and generous service. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of spending time in Merida.

We had a delightful four-night stay at MedioMundo and entirely concur with what recent reviewers have written. Our room was clean and quiet; we enjoyed the sound of the fountain in the courtyard and the songs of birds in the mornings. The breakfasts were first-rate, and the staff was always kind and helpful. We booked trips to Uxmal and Chichen Itza through the hotel and had excellent experiences with the tour operator, Turitransmerida. The guides were knowledgeable and courteous; they both gave us valuable information and left us alone for a good amount of time in order to explore the sites on our own. For restaurants we can recommend La Casa de Frida and La Flor de Santiago.

  • Liked — The serenity of the place and the lovely staff.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

Just back from travelling throughout the Yucatan Peninsula. This was by far the favourite place I stayed. Real character, gorgeous breakfasts, very friendly staff, good value and clean and colourful rooms. Couldn't find a single complaint.

  • Liked — Their delicious breakfasts by the pool

I stayed here for one week in January 2008. The location was great, and my room was simple but elegant. The staff was super, and the breakfast each morning was delicious - and well worth the extra $8/day. I paid $75/night and felt it was quite reasonable. The hotel has a nice gift shop.
My only complaint was the doorbell. Since you have to check your room key when you leave for the day or go out at night, you have to ring the bell to be let back in. The weather was fairly mild, so my room windows were always open. It was hard to take a nap when you could hear the comings & goings of the other guests (i.e. the doorbell).
All in all though, I would stay here again. I did think the list of "rules" was a bit long, but as a property owner can understand why it was needed to put the expectations of all parties out there.

Stayed January 2008
