Walking from home in the early evening to meet friends for dinner at Bravos Tapas we strolled again along the main boulevard of Merida with locals and visitors out to enjoy the cool evening (75 degrees F) . We walked past the bicycle rental shop, the renovated mansions and museums and the ice cream shop already beginning to fill with groups of friends and families. My wife and I enjoyed again the pleasure of walking beneath the canopy of trees along the Paseo toward a new restaurant for our weekly Wednesday group dinner.
What we like: The ease with which we can access the Paseo de Montejo from our home in Centro; the friendly 'Buenas Noches" from most folks passing by; the safety and security of the entire area making it comfortable to stroll home for dozens of blocks even after midnight; the location - close to home but also close to first class hotels as well as reasonably priced hostels where our friends can stay for a night or two while they explore the city.
A great location for a day of exploring, investigating the menues at restaurants from cocina economicas to upscale white tablecloth dining; an early morning or evening bike ride or run or just a gentle stroll. A nice initiation to much that Merida has to offer to visitor or local resident alike.
