“Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Gorgeous....a youth symphony was performing when I visited. I think the entire city was there! It's also a nice place to sit and meditate on a hot afternoon.

“Wow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

This place is absolutely incredible, from the graves on the floor to the carvings and paintings. Went through here with a man we met on the street(then went to his store to browse) and the history and explanations he gave us really brought the place alive. From the main altar to the burnt Christ off to the side his stories really showed what the place was all about. Highly recommended.

“A night-time splendor.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

The square is filled with people, both local and visitors, almost every night. The lights flood the immense facade with color and shadows and the "faithful" step in through the massive doors to view the interior. Built on the foundation of a Maya temple, it stands as a sign of the victory of the Spanish Catholic priests, soldiers and friars over the native Yucatan culture and Mayan people.
