“Historic and Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Gorgeous old cathedral, the second oldest in North America. Beautiful architecture both inside and out. We were lucky enough to have a local take us on a tour inside the building to see more of its beauty and hear more about its history.

“"A place to reflect history"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

An amazing place with much history and architecture. You can feel the strength of the building and the stories it could tell. It has a sense of place in the history of Merida and the families that made it their place of worship.

“If on the plaza, definitely stop in.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

Not terribly ornate--for example, no stained glass to speak of. Huge, stunning crucifix. The outside is beautifully lit at night. Worth seeing at different times of the day if you are a photographer.

“Gorgeous colonial cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

We were lucky to duck in during a mass and feel the incredible energy in the Cathedral. It's a gorgeous building, on a lovely square.

“Impressive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

Huge cathedral with a great history. We walked in while a mass was in session. This made being in the cathedral even more meaningful. The ceiling has many vaulted arches, and despite being ransacked, the altar has a huge crucifix.
