This large, simple restaurant is a botana place. That is, when you are seated, and you order drinks, they begin by bringing you little plates of food (on the house) in traditional Merida style. You can't drink without eating, unless you are in the tourist hotel bars. They also bring you a menu. The food here is very, very good. They have various seafood cocktails, traditional Yucatecan dishes and some other Mexican dishes. Beware not to order too much food because the botanas are filling. The popular time to come is a little after 2 Pm for the mid-day meal. The place fills with middle class Mexicans. And the stage is taken over by a series of musical performers, very good. It can be noisy, but always good spirited and fun. The waiters are extremely professional and the bar well stocked. The chefs clearly like what they are doing, and you may be surprised by some of the botanas.
