We Honeymooned at Isla Mujeres Palace and had an absolutely fabulous time! Travel to the resort took longer than I thought. From the airport you take a shuttle to the port (takes 20-30 min), then you take ferry to Isla Mujeres (another 15-20 min), then take a cab to the resort (about 10 minutes). But everything was on time and went flawlessly. The staff at this resort are incredibly nice! There were not too many people and we felt like royalty the entire time we were there. Ulises is in charge of entertainment during the day and night. He was an extremely friendly and outgoing guy. He got us to meet other people at the resort by setting up beach and water volleyball games as well as night time activities like bingo and karaoke. We enjoyed some of the excursions that included a boat tour of the island, snorkeling, and swimming with dolphins! We took advantage of the 24 hour room service and also spent lots of time just relaxing by the pool or on the beach. Our last day ended up being the best. We rented a golf cart for $40 USD with another honeymoon couple we met at the resort. We went into town, ate authentic Mexican food, and bargained for some really fabulous jewelry. We made it back in time to enjoy our honeymooners dinner on the beach (lobster dinner on the beach available for non-honeymooners) for our last night. The only bad thing I have to say about the resort was that the food was really hit or miss. The buffet breakfast and lunch was limited and definitely lacked taste and looked a bit scary. We mostly stuck to the fresh waffles they make right in front of you. The hashbrowns were always pretty good and my husband mostly had cereal. As far as lunch goes, we quickly discovered that ordering from the swim up bar was the way to go rather than eat the buffet. I enjoyed the cheeseburger and my husband liked the BLT. The dinner options were usually pretty good. They had some great things I've never tried before like fried bananas and cream cheese (fabulous!). I was not a fan of the desserts, but I felt that worked in my favor. Probably need to lay off the deserts anyway : ) Besides the food, everything was as wonderful as we could have ever wanted. The resort was extremely clean and well taken care of. Our rooms were amazing! Very modern and up-to-date with an awesome 2 person jacuzzi tub! All-in-all this was by far the best vacation we have ever been on and we would (and have been) definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

In summary, this hotel is absolutely wonderful. However, we booked the package directly through Wyndham, and everything they did turned out wrong. We ended up losing a day of our vacation and several hundred dollars due to their mistakes. Book through someone else and follow the travel tips below, and you'll have a great time.

This hotel was very underbooked when we arrived - there were 10 couples at most. Friends looking at our pictures wondered whether we had the hotel to ourselves - and it almost felt like we did! They were very well staffed, though, and it was nice that everyone knew our names after the first day.

We booked a resort-view room with a single king bed (through Wyndham travel). When we arrived, we were told that no such room exists - all they had on the resort side was rooms with two double beds. They blamed it on Wyndham travel, apologized, and offered to upgrade our room, but would not waive the additional fee. We were put off by that, especially considering that they were running at about 15% occupancy. One other couple we met had a similar story - they were given a room different from what they reserved and were given an offer to "upgrade".

Because of the slack business, they were offering an exceptional deal on a 6 night package - $1500 in credits for on-site services (spa services, etc) and several local excursions such as snorkeling, island tours, and swimming with the dolphins. This kept us busy, with something to do almost every day. All of the activities were arranged and scheduled through the front desk, and with only one exception, they were all fun and worthwhile. The only disappointment was the Garrafon Reef Park - it was a crowded tourist trap with not much to do.

If you're looking for a Cancun-style mega-resort with a 10 acre pool and jet skis buzzing up and down the beach, this is not the hotel for you. The Isla Palace is the baby of the Palace resorts, and that is a good thing. It is fun, but in a laid-back, relaxed way.

Unlike most all-inclusive resorts, there is only one restaurant (two, if you count the poolside burger bar). However, you will not be disappointed by the variety of food available. The dinner menu changes every few nights, with a wide variety of cuisine to choose from. Everything we had for dinner was delicious, and the presentation is pure artwork. Breakfast and lunch is pretty standard resort buffet fare.

The beach behind the hotel is tiny, which was not a problem when we were there due to the low occupancy. And it isn't really a "swimming" beach. The water is gorgeous, but the bottom is mostly grass beds and relatively shallow. There are a variety of toys like kayaks to use, but you aren't going to go far. It is a great little beach to just hang out, and drink service to the beach was good.

All of our travel - airline, airport transfer, and ferry was booked through Wyndham and they really screwed that up. They booked us on a 7am return flight, which was fine by us. Or so we thought. It wasn't until we requested an early morning cab that the front desk informed us that the ferry doesn't start running until 6:00am (with 30 minute transit time). Realistically, due to the ferry, it is physically impossible to take any flight out earlier than 8:30 or 9:00. By the time we found this out, all of the later flights were booked. We spent half a day on the phone with Wyndham, to no avail. They acted like it was our fault that we couldn't make the scheduled flight, and basically told us that we were on our own to find a way home from Mexico. We ended up paying $300 extra for 1st-class tickets on a later flight and spent $80 in long distance calls just to get home.

Again, the local staff was apologetic and offered to move us to one of their hotels in Cancun the night before so we could make our flight. Having to pack up and relocate to the mainland was not a good option, particularly considering that we had activities scheduled that evening. We called to complain when we returned, but the service representative basically said they just don't care. As of this writing, they will still book you on a late night or early morning flight that is impossible to take.

Excellent Hotel, friendly staff - great vacation
I spent 8 days in the resort with my wife and 2 kids. We all loved the place, room was great with nice jacuzzy and balcony, very clean, and confortable. Food was very good, waiters and other staff knew the kids by name and made no problems for changing the menu when needed. Since the hotel is small , and was not crowded at all, we never had to wait in line for anything. There are many differente activities on the island, so the kids were never bored, and also loved hanging around the pool or the beach I hear the hotel will not take kids in the future, wich is a shame, for i would definitely come back to another great vacation at the same resort

My husband and I just returned from an incredible 6 night stay in this all-inclusive resort. It was wonderful! The staff goes out of their way to meet the guests every need! The hotel is clean, fun, and friendly. It will be an adult only resort as of September 2010, which will encourage us to return again even sooner!!! Do not book your vacation through Wyndham hotels!!! They booked a flight that was impossible for us to make (7am) due to the ferry not running until 5:30 am, and they refused to help us work out the problem. I spend $77 on a toll free phone call to the Wyndham just to receive the "run around" and then had to pay another $340 to change my flight to one that was possible to make. I am asking them to reimburse me, so we will see. Also, Wynham allowed me to book a kingsize bed in a resort view room and there is no such thing. We had 2 double beds. The hotel itself is worth visiting and you will love it. Don't book vacations using Wyndham because you will be on your own to solve their mistakes!!!

We have experienced other all inclusives but nothing compares to the service we recieved at this location. The staff is exceptional, the food fabulous, our room was comfortable and cleaned before we returned from breakfast. We had an issue with noise from the next room which had an adjoining door, we called the front desk and within 10 minutes were moved to another room (no problem). My husband and I love mexican food found the choices at the buffet for breakfast and lunch included a nice selection of international and more standard dishes. The ala carte menu for dinner was fantastic we suggest the risotto and my filet was one of the best I ever had. Each day the staff in the dining room helped me with english to mayan lessons which came in handy when we were out and about on the island. We were so surprised one night when we were out on the beach watching the sea turtles come ashore when we heard from the street Senor Kennedy, Senor Kennedy !!!! There was Jose the concierge with his wife stopping to say Hola, he deserves 10 stars for service and special accolades for the attention he pays to all guests at the resort. If you want a vacation where you have great accomadations, an Island full of beauty and wonderful people this is your destination. (But lets keep it our little secret). Thanks again to all the staff Glendy, Eddy, Wilma, Patricia, and everyone at the front desk for making our vacation a memory we will always cherish.
