“Fantastic Resort to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Isla Mujeres is an absolutely fantastic resort. We never once had to wait for anything. There were always chairs on the beach, hammocks near the pool, chairs at the pool, and the staff was absolutely amazing to meet our every request. This is a smaller resort, but we had the best service imaginable and met some great people. The food was amazing, the beds were comfortable, and the rooms were cleaned and stocked daily! Not only is the Palace a great place, but the whole island is very friendly and fun! We will definetly be returning!

We chose this hotel based on the amazing reviews when we decided to vacation on Isla Mujeras. I was so under impressed. The buffet is very, very limited on it's offerings and although the food tasted o.k., there was nothing outstanding. If you're coming with an appetite, this isn't the place. The dinner portions, although o.k. for me, are really, really small. The rooms are o.k., but again, nothing I would have expected for where this hotel is ranked. The bath towels all looked like they had seen their better days. Very little curb appeal unlike other luxury all inclusive;s you stay at. The beach is a big disappointment as you are nestled between two docks where all the day trips and booze cruises come over from Cancun for the day, so it's very small. The area designated for swimming is so small and so shallow, you can't use any of the water equipment they have laying there. It was so boring---no real entertainment--yeah they had some fire dancers during dinner one night. Their casino night consisted of one blackjack table in the lobby bar lol!!! The only time it got busy was when they shuttled people from the sister hotels in Cancun and were trying to sell them weeks (like timeshares). We spent more time away from the resort than in it. Yes they had some decent liquor, but no good after dinner liquors like Cognac's or Drambuie etc. But I am a wine drinker and the stuff they had behind the bar was barely palatable. I had to always buy wine with my resort credits and pay the taxes. They boasted they had all these great wines and you had about 3 or 4 reds to chose from that were just o.k.

The one bright star here was the staff---they were amazing. Would give you the shirt off your backs. But if your going to spend this much money for this 'supposed' category level (it had 5 golds from Apple), I've stayed at far more beautiful and luxurious all inclusives in the Rivera Mayan that you'd be better suited spending your money on. I think a lot of these raving reviews on here are from people that got stuck buying weeks.

This was our second stay at Isla Mujeres in the past 3 years. We love this place. If you are looking to experience the culture of Mexico and avoid the commercial aspect of Cancun, visit Isla Mujeres Palace.
We have always been extremely impressed with the quality of service at Isla Mujeres Palace. The beach, pool and rooms are amazing. The selection of gourmet food at all three (all-inclusive) meals top anything we have had at other hotels in the Caribbean. A special shout-out to Mario Villes(?) at the front desk/manager. Mario is one of those people that take a really good place and make it great.
The island of Isla Mujeres is a quaint little island that is about 7 KM long and about 1 KM wide. There are plenty of sightseeing opportunities from the sandy beaches of the west and north to the rocky cliffs on the west and south. If you are looking to pick up some quality shells, shell artwork and jewelry, visit Mirabella on the east side of the island. She operates a little roadside stand that is surrounded by all her doggy friends. Mirabella adopts stray animals from around the island and takes care of them using the proceeds from her roadside stand. She accepts donations.
Downtown Isla Mujeres has a traditional market where all sorts of goods can be haggled over and purchased. There are also a number of food establishments from cart vendors to bars and restaurants where A+ food can be found.
Isla Mujeres also has plenty of historical sites from Mayan ruins to early 20th century monuments and museums. I would suggest downloading the "Isla Mujeres: Day Trippers Guide" app from the Apple App store.

Room Tip: Ask for Ocean Front... Ocean View are almost always partially obstructed.

My husband I came from Michigan to Isla Mujeres and were thrilled with our choice. We have traveled to several different areas of Mexico and this by far was the best. The resort is clean and the staff friendly. Security is alert and made us feel at ease. The island itself is gorgeous. We will return for sure!!

Rooms are nice, hotel small, staff friendly. No place for swimming on the beach. Lot of seaweed in the water. Limited property size, with a lot of big boats and noise next door.

The selection of food choices is very limited, both the buffet and the dinner meanu. Very little food sitting out, and it will often be gone and not replaced.

Drinks are not of the quality you might expect for the price of the hotel.

I was disappointed in the value receivied for cost of the resort, especially the food choices. Would not return.

This resort is very quiet and relaxing place to stay. The staff is very friendly and willing to please your desires. This was the fastest I have ever relaxed on vacation. After just two days I in the zone.

Room Tip: The beach front rooms have a great view but can be loud at night from the parties next door.

One of the best things about this hotel is the rooms. The rooms are spacious, modern, comfortable, luxourious and clean. The hotel itself is more or less an outdoor hotel meaning that lobby, hallways, restaurant, etc are all without proper walls/doors. This gives a nice feeling of being close to the beach, the sun, the pool etc. However when the weather is more windy/stormy it can feel as if you are only protected in your room. The hotel beach is well kept and a very relaxing place to enjoy the sun or a drink from the bar. However the water is full of sea urchins, combined with seaweed and some rocks. So I urge those that want to swim here to use reefshoes or similar. There is a lifeguard on duty most of the time. The lunch at the hotel is good and you can ask the chef to cook you a varitey of small dishes like cheeseburgers, tacos, fish etc. There is a small buffet as well to choose from. During our stay there was a lady chef on duty who was really service minded and that tried to cook breakfast or snack/lunch to your liking. In the evening there is a fixed meny with a variety of dishes to choose from. The theme changes each evening (see example in my pictures of the evening menu). The food is good and you have a couple of house wines to choose from. The house wine are ok but dont expect to much here unless you add money and buy their better wines (didnt try this). I want to point out that on the homepage you get the feeling that you get credits to use if you stay a certain amount of days. This applies ONLY if you book via their own homepage and not via discounted Expedia rates. Therefore, if you book via Expedia, you will not benfit from using the credits to upgrade wine or use it for guided tours on the island etc. The main negative thing about this hotel is that they write on the homepage that all gratuities are included and that you only need to relax and be pampered. Well this is not true. Most of the visitors seem to be US tourists and I assume that they can not imagine asking for a drink or getting the bag carried to the room without giving tip. In many cases a lot of tip. In Europe we are used to the fact that waiters etc can get a good base pay and give excellent service without tip. If Palace Hotel did they same (as implied at their homepage) we would not need to carry around all these notes while sunbathing, enjoying breakfast or similar. Since the hotel has not banned the staff to accept tip the staff naturally serve the tipping people much quicker, better, happier etc. We were only here a few days and had not gained or changed into many dollarnotes. Therefore we clearly noted difference between the service we got and the service given to those guests that gave the servant dollars each time he brought a new drink or similar. So bring your dollars if you want to see smiling staff and get service in time! To the defense of several staff members I would like to say that this did not apply to all of them. Several, like the head waiter for instance were very nice any way. The hotel is located half way between the north and the south part of the island meaning that you have a short taxiride to the city if you want some pubs or if you want to go to the nice north beach. On the other side you have closer to Garrafon natural reef park or the Dolphin park. No taxiride is more than 60pesos something on the island and it is allways a taxi near the hotel it seems. A good advice is to rent one of the club cars that you will see on the roads. Its fun and its a good way of exploring the island. Exploring the island can be done in a few hours actually. The gym at the hotel is nice and you can do most of the things you need to do here. Never tried the spa services but it looked nice. Free use of towels at the pool/beach is good. The hotel has few rooms and is not crowded at all. On the contrary it can feel a bit deserted in the evenings. The hotel arrange activites in the evening like Wii night, salsa dancing etc. The jacuzzi in the room was really nice to use some of the evenings when it was a bit chilly outside. The shower facility is nice and the products are of high quality. Beds are king size and comfortable.
