This was our first trip back to Isla in several years and our second stay with Bucaneros. We got a small budget room for two again because when we booked in September the larger rooms were all taken. Since we were only there for 2 nites, this wasn't too much of an inconvenience, any longer stay you would probably be happier with a larger room with chairs and more room to move around. Even so, for 2 nites Christmas week, we paid well under a hundred bucks for a clean air-conditioned room, ceiling fan, Mexican cable TV, good bathroom with hot shower, free drinking water dispensed right outside the door. Try that in Cancun or Playa del Carmen, can't beat the value. Isla is a magnet that draws you back, and we wanted to savor it for a couple days of our 12 day holiday.
One new feature was that you could prepay with credit card and get the welcome drink and free continental breakfast deal, whereas before you had to actually do a bank transfer to get the prepay bonus, which was too much of a hassle to mess with. So we got our welcome drinks. The continental breakfast is handy - very good coffee, delicious freshly squeezed OJ, 3 pieces of toast with jam. They did have a large daily breakfast buffet if you're really famished.
Again, we were well satisfied with the hotel, restaurant and housekeeping staff. Good privacy and security. We were saving our diving for Cozumel this trip, but met a number of divers staying there, as it's handy to a couple of shops and a bargain.
Bucaneros is on the main pedestrian shopping street and is in the center of the night-time restaurant and bar scene, which we consider handy. Sorry to hear about the noise problem of an earlier reviewer, but we never noticed it. Around 9 or 10 pm, they pretty much roll up the street as far as the shopping activity goes, and it gets peaceful enough. Isla is much smaller than Cozumel, and the main beach areas are just a short pleasant stroll away from the hotel.
We recommend Bucaneros for anyone who doesn't require a pool or need to be on the beach, but wants to explore and enjoy the ambience and shopping on Isla. Did I mention that the price-value is unbeatable.

The rooms were very nice and clean. The hotel has been in the same family for many years. They are so friendly. Eyder, the owner was friendly, professional and very accomodating. The restaurant was excellent There were 9 of us and we enjoyed every meal we had there. Very nice location. The prices for the hotel and food was great, very reasonable. We will book there again.

The Bucaneros is a great place to stay. The rooms are very clean. The resturant in the hotel is excellent and the cafechoco frio is an absolute MUST in the morning! We stayed over the New Year's holiday and the atmosphere was very festive. Very energetic and authentic. There were activities for young and old alike. Overall a great place to stay. Definitely don't miss Isla Mujeres and The Bucaneros on any trip to Cancun!

We recently returned from Isla and our stay at Bucaneros. We originally planned on splitting our stay between two hotels. We reserved one night at Bucaneros, two nights at the other hotel and then the last four nights at Bucaneros.
As other reviews state, the rooms are clean and in a good location. However, the rooms were very noisy due to the location on the pedestrian street. We stayed in Rooms 100 and 202 and both had a strong odor of bleach. Once the bleach odor died down, it was very musty smelling, especially the bathrooms. There was mold and mildew in the showers. We checked out two days early because of the noise and odor. When we checked out, the woman asked us how our stay was and we told her that the rooms smelled. She just smiled and didn't say anything, but perhaps she did not understand English.
At check-in the first time, the woman who helped us seemed more interested in watching a girl play on the computer than checking us in. The second time, the man who checked us in was very helpful.
Both rooms had a nice balcony overlooking the street with a table and chairs. In Room 100, there were two double beds, but you had to climb into a loft to get to the second bed. The loft ceiling was low so you had to walk on your knees to get to the bed.
They have free water dispensers outside the rooms, which was very convenient.
