We are Raintree Vacation Club (RVC) owner. Villa Vera at Isla Mujeres is one of RVC properties, so we book 2 night stay directly through RVC (and not via RCI). Due to insufficent points, we book 1 night master suite, one night villa. We like both.
First of all, Isla Mujeres is really a nice island to visit. Unlike Cancun which is over developed and crowded in my opinion, you get a village, slow pace feel when you are in Isla Mujeres. Things are cheaper here too.
Against advice, we took the car ferry from Punta Sam to Isla Mujeres (about $30 with 4 passengers). Taking the car ferry is an experience by itself. The guy at the ferry really knows what they are doing and giving you excellent instruction how to park your car tight. It was a very nice 45-minute ride across the ocean. The ocean is so blue/turquoise, it is hard to imagine.
There is local road construction around the villa, so it is a little challenging to get to the Villa Vera (otherwise, you turn right from the ferry and another right). When we finally arrive, what a different world it is in the Villa Vera.
It is not a big property, but it is very nice. With white building and orange roof tile, it gives you a Spanish villa feeling. Our master suite is nice but the villa is fantastic. One of the interesting feature, the room has many "painting" but they are really window cover. You can open the picture and see the window. I have never seen anything like this in other places.
The villa has 2 floors, with bedroom/bathroom upstairs with its own jacuzzi in the deck, downstair is the living room, dining room and another bathroom. It has so much space. We find the room a little dark even with all the light turns on (but I guess you don't come here to study). It has ceiling fan, very quiet and efficient. The shower water pressure is a little weak but it is acceptable.
It has a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch (the price seems reasonable), but we didn't eat there. The swim pool is good with a pretty Villa Vera logo at the bottom. The landscape is well kept and it is next to a yacht dock. We can pick up free wireless internet in one room but not the other, so try your luck. There is also a courtesy computer at the lobby that you can use (need to be familiar with Mexico keyboard).
The sofa bed was not made for 2 nights. However, the maid came right away after I told them. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Since we have car, it is very easy to drive around and you just don't get lost in Isla Mujeres (otherwise, you need to get cab). The island is very small (about 5 miles long). You can drive from one end to the other in about 20 minutes at a very leisurely pace.
BTW, I like Frommer's Cancun day by day tour book. We tried out a few restaurants it suggests. We like Rolandi's PIzza (downtown), Zazil Ha (North end) and Playa Lanceros. At Playa Lancheros, you can get a grilled fish dish (Tikin-Chic) for $8/person. With the ocean view, sea breeze, you can't beat that.
We also had a good time at Dolphin Discovery. If you want to take picture/videos on your kids swimming with dolphins, make sure you have very good zoom lens. The overlook platform is far for taking pictures.
The ruin/lighthouse at the east/south end, there are many iguanas there. I take many pictures on the igunas sitting on the rock with a blue ocean back drop. With that along, it is worth the trip. There are also many interesting house near the east end.
Overall, we like the island and will definitely stay here again when we next visit Isla Mujers.
