“Exceptional food and service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

I concur with the other reviewers--Limon is the best restaurant on Isla Mujeres! The food is superb; my fiance delighted in the textures and flavors of the three kabobs marinated in olive oil and rosemary, and I relished every bite of the mussels au gratin, which are prepared in a garlic aioli sauce and browned under a broiler with a parmesan cheese topping. It's absolutely delicious! The food is beyond excellent, but what makes Limon truly exceptional is the chef himself. Sergio is charismatic and gregarious, regaling his guests with colorful stories of his past experiences. He is also very generous. When I raved about how good the mussels were, he gave me the recipe! Now, how many chefs are willing to share their recipes!?!!? We will definitely return to Limon the next time we visit Isla. Muchas gracias, Sergio!

“Best restaurant on the Island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

The best restaurant on Isla Mujeres;and if you are staying the island, then a visit to Limon should rank high on the places to go. It was more than just a dinner, it was a dining experience. Had the Arrachera Marinada, and it was probably the best flank steak I ever had. It was marinated and grilled to perfection! The side dish of potatoes au gratin was also delicious. For dessert, had the pineapple flambe - an unique and original chef recipe.

If the restaurant isn't too busy, you might even have a chance to talk with Sergio, the master chef. He is full of colorful stories and good laughs! He loves the culinary arts, and it shows in his cooking. Limon restaurant is not to be missed. Well done Sergio!!

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

We ate here for our honeymoon in July. The food was top class, the service from Sergio was brilliant. He is a very good host who clearly knows his food. The tuna and the Pineapple desert were especially good. I would recommend at least one trip to limon for food on a trip to Isla. Sergio was so helpful, he even organised a trip to swim with the whale sharks for us which I must add is also excellent. Overall a very fine dining experience.

“THE Dining Experience on Isla Mujeres!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

We have been visiting Isla Mujeres since 2005 and have eaten at many restaurants on the island, including Sergio’s previous establishment on Playa Sol. Most of our Isla meals have been very good and while we still return to some old favourites, we have grown a little tired of the dining scene in Centro. We were on Isla in July 2013 for a 2 week stay and on our second last night, we were longing for something new and so decided to give Limon a try.

After a warm welcome from Sergio, we chose a table in the charming garden patio and immediately sensed that we were in for a special evening. The restaurant decor is simple but elegant and, combined with Sergio’s warmth and hospitality, it truly is the perfect setting for an exceptional dining experience.

We ordered the mussels au gratin with Roquefort hollandaise sauce as an appetizer, and savoured every bite. The mussels were tender, perfectly cooked, and seasoned to perfection. We then ordered the tuna in hibiscus reduction and the beef filet in port reduction as our main courses. Both dishes were perfectly prepared – bursting with flavour and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The love and attention put into each plate was made apparent by the beautiful presentation of everything we ordered. The hibiscus reduction is unique and truly remarkable. Sergio serves a nice selection of Chilean wines by Concha y Toro. The Sauvignon Blanc was good, as was the Cabernet Sauvignon. Service was attentive and relaxed - no rushing and we were encouraged to linger and savour our meal. Menu pricing is very fair considering the quality and freshness of ingredients. Our meals would easily have cost double here at home. The menu offers a wide variety of selections, something for everyone - vegetarians, seafood and meat lovers - and is creative and fun in its fresh approach to Mexican/Caribbean fusion fare.

After our dinner, we had the pleasure of enjoying the rest of our evening talking with Sergio about his recipes (which he so generously shares, much to our delight!) and his experiences living on Isla. It was the cherry on top of a perfect evening that we will not soon forget. We were so enamoured, in fact, that we returned the very next night to enjoy our last meal at Limon! In the interest of sampling everything on the menu (which we pledge to spend the vast majority of our next trip doing), we ordered the Caprese Tower and lobster “Sergio Style”. Again, flawless – every single bite was delightful. It is the meal we will talk about for years to come, and the very first thing we will seek out when we return to the island next year. Sergio has raised the bar for culinary excellence on Isla Mujeres and Limon is absolutely, without question, the very best restaurant on the island. Many thanks to Sergio and his wonderful staff for two perfect evenings in our very favourite place on earth! See you next year! Much love from Lyndsey and Darryl in Ottawa, Canada!

“Best meal in Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

We have known Sergio for over seven years. We visited him on our recent trip to Isla Mujeres - June 30, 2013. He had a terrific bar and grill on the North beach, but we absolutely fell in love with his Limon Restaurant. It is pearl on Isla Mujeres and away from the tourist traps. The atmosphere is classy and the food is of the best quality, best value, and taste for your money. My husband and son had the ribs, which were more than enough. I had the cilantro chicken, which was seasoned to perfection. Currently, it is only open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., so be sure and tell him hello for us. (Passport To Travel).
