“Wonderful, relaxing stay and amazing staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

We loved staying here at El Milagro! I don't think we could have found a better place to stay with my family with two kids and extended family - we had a total of 9 in the group (they stayed in other rooms). My family of 4 stayed in Bayfront 2A, and they added two twin beds to the room (one on frame and one mattress on ground) for the kids. It was beautifully decorated and the kitchen was well stocked with all that you could need, plus some complementary coffee and sugar to get you started. The fridge was nicer than the one we have at home! There is a bottled water dispenser in the kitchen to use, the A/C worked great in both the living room and bedroom. There is a nice deck with chairs and tables, but with the trees in front, there isn't really a view of the bay. Everything was very clean. My sister-in-law stayed in Caribbean view I and the room was just as nice, the only slight negative is the street noise, but she said it was much quieter in the bedroom itself.

The kids loved the open air rec room with darts and ping pong table and especially loved the movie theatre room. There were a lot of DVDs available, but could have used a few more kid friendly movies (of course, we had them outside and playing/swimming as much as possible, and preferred them to not stay inside watching movies). The pool was small but deep enough for the kids to swim and jump into and dive for coins on the bottom. There were lots of hammocks and chairs to relax in. We could snorkel around the docks and saw some fish and baby barracuda. The free paddle boards and kayaks were great! And they provide life jackets to use. Also, there is free wifi throughout the resort and rooms. A big plus!

The best thing about El Milagro is the staff there, including Jaime, Julio, Rosa, and Serge. All were so friendly and helpful! We felt very safe to let our kids to play in the confines of the property. Jaime and Julio were exceptional! They saved the day when my son's wire on his braces broke Saturday after lunch and I asked Julio if he knew of a dentist or orthodontist. Jaime called his own dentist and they both explained to the dentist what happened since I couldn't speak Spanish. They got me in immediately to see the dentist before he closed. Julio led the way to the dentist on his moped so I could follow in a golf cart. We didn't get to meet the owner, Eric, but he was very responsive by emails when I had lots of questions before booking the rooms and afterwards when preparing for our trip.

They also held their community BBQ dinner feast the day before we left and it was an amazing meal! It was the best 150 peso per person we spent on a meal on the island. They made fresh grilled red snapper (caught by local fisherman next door), BBQ spare pork ribs, salsa, guacamole, rice, steamed veggies, Caesar salad, refried beans, tortillas. Everything was delicious.

It's about a mile outside of town, so we rented golf carts to get around, but you can also take taxis to town. They usually charged 40 pesos each way. Or you can ride the bikes provided for free. Barlito's is right next door and the food is very good there. We are so glad we choose to stay here.

Room Tip: Chose a room on the bayside, such as Bayfront 1 or 2A, much quieter.

El Milagro is not really a hotel, more like a vacation villa rental. We stayed for a week and were more than comfortable and would certainly prefer to return again if in Isla Mujeres. El Milagro is outside of downtown so you need to take a taxi or walk (about a mike) to downtown. Better still, there are lots if bicycles for guest use. Because our room had a kitchen, which we wanted, we went to grocery store for our needs. But it was very nice to have the basics (meaning coffee) there when we arrived. Wish there were a small restaurant on property for nights we did not want to cook. Two doors down is a good restaurant, Barlito, in an adjoining hotel, but it is quite expensive relative to ore places here.

Finally, staff are terrific, just ask anyone for what you need. Big thank you to the manager, Inga, would could not have been nicer.

We loved El Milagro! Everyone was incredibly helpful and generous. It is just gorgeous there. When my wife got sick (not montezuma's revenge), they shared medicine, helped get her fresh juices, the staff generously shared their food with her. It really feels like a community of laid back, great people who genuinely care about their guests. They food the guys cooked is out of this world. We actually really liked that they didn't have a bar on site. We could just drink our own beer and didn't have to pay bar prices every time we wanted a beverage. If you are looking for a low key, friendly place to relax that actually feels like you are on an island in Mexico you can't go wrong here.

OK...I know most reviews deal with how things went after the stay; however, as a group leader of a bunch of Minnesota scuba divers going down to reef dive and then snorkel with the whale sharks at the end of this month...I just want everyone to know what a pleasure it has been to work with Eric, the owner, in helping me set up accommodations for my group. He has been incredibly patient and is obviously passionate and knowledgeable about his resort. We have several different and diverse folks traveling with us with all kinds of different needs. Eric helped me find the best room for each individual set of people traveling with us (this is the great thing about the resort - many different accommodation arrangements). Eric has been terrifically straight forward in all of our dealings and that has helped alleviate some of the stress that group leaders encounter when arranging a trip. Thanks Eric! We look forward to a great stay at the end of the month!

Again, as a person who arranges trips, I cannot tell you how important it is to the success of a trip to have the early planning PROCESS go smoothly. Eric and his staff have "fit that bill" so far.

I will update this post after our trip so all of you readers can get a "full review" from start to finish.

Room Tip: Talk to Eric - he will hook you up!

It was great here. The atmosphere was awesome, rooms were clean, spacious, microwAve, dishes, fridge, fining table, small tv, beds, couches, purified water, balcony, etc. There is a movie heater here! Which no one has posted about. 4 couches in there, a projector, a
Screen, air conditioner, DVD and blueray player, DVDs as well. Everything works, it's just a little confusing to turn all of it on (I'm a technology junkie so it was not an issue for me). Ping pong tables outside. Use of the bikes. The bikes are in various conditions. They are not top notch, not much air in the tired, not comfortable, but they get the job done. There is paddle boards and kayaks in the back that you can take out too. There is a pool onsite, about 5 feet 5inches deep. A duck in it with chlorine. There is also a safe in the room. We stayed in ocean garden II. I saw some comments about the maids here not being great, they are wonderful. You must let them know when to go clean, or else they won't. I told them twice and both times they did a immaculate job of cleaning.

We did have an issues with ants, the little black ones all over the kitchen. We asked the maids to spray and they did which we never saw them come back. There was also a roach in the room, a small little centipede in the bathroom and the little black ants in there too. From what the owner tells us, he doesn't like to spray much around here because it kills everything. It was really a big deal just make sure you bring your own big spray with you. Spray in areas you may think they will come in.

We felt safe here. No issues no complaints other than some bugs (but you are right by the ocean, so it is kind of expected). I would recommend staying here.

There is a market called Chedrauis in walking distance. It's not that far. My favorite place to
Eat is a short walk as well (greenverde). There is a small store at the front of the milagro. They don't sell michr but a few things. A couple of places to each side of you as well to eat. All in all I would recommend staying here. You can't beat the price and size of room.

The rooms were large, clean, and so creatively decorated. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Free snorkeling gear, paddle boards and bikes. The snorkeling was the best I have ever experienced just meters away from the villa. I will be back!

Room Tip: I don't thing you could go wrong with any room but we had a balcony that came along with a huge...

We stayed in the Caribbean #1 in May. Very nice unit with a large balcony looking over the island and the sea. We really enjoyed riding the bikes to the North Shore and visiting different restaurants. The grounds at the El Milagro are beautiful. We tried the kayaks and enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks. The staff are great. We would definitely return to the El Milagro.
