“A+++++ Privilege Aluxes "Adult-Oriented" Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

My boyfriend and I recently completed our third consecutive stay at Privilege Aluxes and we are already looking forward to next year! First, I would like to say THANK YOU to Privilege Aluxes for this opportunity to enjoy another relaxing, memorable vacation. The staff members at PA are so welcoming and we feel like we are "coming home" when we visit. The grounds are very well maintained, the room and facilities are clean and well furnished, the food and drinks are delicious, the massage is definitely worth it, the beach and snorkeling is amazing, and the service is excellent! The staff members work very hard all day and night and they have such wonderful, engaging personalities. They recognized us immediately this year and last year as returning guests and they go out of their way to do the little things to make us feel special. We feel so thankful to be able to look across the ocean from our quiet strip of beach on Playa Norte to Cancun and know that we've "escaped" the spring-break, party atmosphere.

Our FAVORITE feature of Privilege Aluxes is the fact that it is "adult-oriented". My boyfriend and I find it to be a very romantic place and we definitely recommend it for couples. As you will read in many other reviews, there is not much here for children. It is the PERFECT escape for adults and couples looking for relaxation and tranquility. We did notice more small children staying at PA year but we will not let it deter us. We will just hope that next year during our vacation week that the adults who bring small children to the resort will have the common courtesy/be mindful of the fact that many guests select PA completely on account of its reputation for being adult-oriented!!

We LOVE it here and we are 100% satisfied with everything and everyone associated with PA. We have no criticisms or complaints - only compliments for Privilege Aluxes! My boyfriend and I have highly recommended Privilege Aluxes to many other couples and we will continue to do so. Hopefully, other couples who love PA as much as we do will post a review to encourage more adults to choose to vacation the Privilege way! Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!

We stayed here, along with 2 other couples, for our wedding & honeymoon in early-mid July. We all loved that we could walk with our luggage from the ferry to the hotel, it was not a hard walk at all & I had quite a bit of luggage plus my wedding gown. Check-in was great and our rooms were ready when we arrived (around 4-5pm), the front desk had the porter take our bags to the room and along the way he gave us the scoop on all the amenities and everything. We got into our room, a Superior Ocean View suite with jacuzzi, and it was gorgeous! The staff had left us a bottle of champagne chilling, chocolate covered fruits, and towel swans and rose petals on our bed! The room was huge, modern, extremely clean, nice and cool compared to outside, and I didn’t notice a musty smell at all- but if you do they provide incense for that. Our balcony was equally huge, and we loved being able to see cancun across the water, and the sunset from our jacuzzi.

The service was great- front desk, bartenders, waiters, room service, maids (Lucia)- they were all spectacular! I’ll give individual food reviews below- we’re pretty picky eaters and have been on a non-processed whole foods diet for a while so we came in spoiled.

We were amazed by the beach. I did not realize there was a small road/path between the hotel & beach but it wasn’t a big deal and was pretty empty except for the occasional golf cart. We never had an issue finding beach loungers, even for 4-6 people, at any time of the day. Beach beds were taken a lot but there are only 4 I think so we just waited and pounced on it when one came open. We loved the beach service- it was always very fast & they did a great job filing our orders, and letting us know when they closed down to prep for dinner so we could double up our drinks. The beach itself was dreamy & gorgeous- the sand was super fine and white as flour, the water was super clear turquoise and had a really nice slow slope transitioning from shallow to deep. We brought our own snorkels and saw quite a few fish right out in front, including some type of a ray. We walked down the beach towards playa norte and went snorkeling off hotel property on the piers and got a bad super itchy rash from the coral growing on the support beams. The hotel staff was very helpful, told us what it was, and even went to the store with us because they couldn’t figure out how to say Vinegar in english. As soon as we put that vinegar on it the rash cleared up pretty quickly. I do wish there had been a sign or warning upon checkin, but it’s not their property so no biggie.

We didn’t spend any time in the pool at all since the beach was so lovely.

Our wedding was on a Saturday an hour or two before sunset. They set it up right on the beach in the palapa they use for massages. They did a great job setting it up with flowers and draping on the support beams underneath the palapa. The judge was unable to make it so the hotel coordinator performed the ceremony with the judge’s assistant. We could tell she practiced it a few times and she made sure to pronounce our names correctly. The staff went above & beyond for us as well. We got a basic package that did not include anything but a few flower arrangement on the palapa. When we got to walk down the aisle they had also put up tiki torches & rose petals in a path to make the aisle! They also had champagne waiting for us to toast with directly afterwards. We had a dinner reservation for all 6 of us at Café Del Mar later that night. The staff setup the table beautifully- with more flowers down the middle, and super fancy setup with candles & all! At the end of dinner the capitan came out & said he had a surprise for us- the chef had made us our own cake to cut! It even had a super cute cake topper (a bride with the groom slung over her shoulder)- I was in awe of their thoughtfulness & it truly felt like we were surrounded by close friends & family and not wait-staff. The capitan made a point to tell us that he would save the cake for us & we could ask for it anytime we ate at any of the restaurants, we got some at breakfast the next day & they even put extra decorative icing on it so it didn’t look like just like a leftover piece of cake. Our wedding was more than we could have hoped thanks to the amazing service at the hotel & café del mar!

The food: Overall I would say it was okay, the menu’s had some items that were not that great and some that were spectacular. BUT we hadn’t eaten anything boxed, canned, or frozen for nearly a year before our visit so we are picky eaters.

-Room service: we read mixed reviews about this, but tried it anyway. Some dishes were a hit & others a miss, but they all arrived very promptly, still hot/cold depending on what we ordered. We LOVED the carbonnara pasta, ice cream desserts, and hawaiian pizza (had fresh pineapple on it)! They were out of the beers we wanted a few times but I just sent my husband down to the bar to get a few for us. My brother had a different room and got room service every morning with wine and fresh fruit for AM home-made sangria’s.

-Satay/Buffet: we ate breakfast here daily. We loved the variety on the buffets- fyi the omlette station will also make plain eggs anyway you want (sunnyside up!). Some of our favorite items were the beans (they mixed the type up daily), eggs, so many pastries, fresh fruit, and salads. We also LOVED the fresh juices- the pineapple & grapefruit were my favorite by far. Lunch here was also very good. The servers were always on top of their tables making sure we had everything we needed. They poured water out of a pitcher which I was sketched out about at first but I later saw them toting in huge plastic jugs of water so it was fine- we never had any issues with water.

-Sabor/Thai: we went here twice & it was delicious both times. I really enjoyed having a reason to get dressed up since Isla is so laid back casual. The atmosphere was great, we loved the hundreds of Budha statues allover. The menu was huge with Thai & sushi. I had Pad Thai the first visit & was extremely unimpressed. The next time we got sushi & steak & it was amazing! My steak was gigantic, cooked perfectly, with a ton of fresh still a little crunchy veggies (the best kind). They need to add in a full bar though as they only had wine (for an extra charge even to AI guests)- our poor waiter ran down to the beach bar to get our beers! We were the last guests in the restaurant on our second visit but we never felt rushed at all, the servers were amazing both visits!

-Café Del Mar/Beach: we ate lunch & dinners here daily. I loved the variety of mexican american food, but the burger I had for one lunch was downright gross. After that I stuck with the mexican dishes- shrimp/beef/pork tacos, nachos, calamari, guacamole- all delicious stuff. Tables were always open, servers & food were fast, overall we loved it! We went here a few nights for the live entertainment and while it was good (80's-90's cover songs) we were hoping for a more authentic mexican experience so we could do some salsa dancing =(

Summary: We LOVED our entire stay (8 nights) so much that we are working as hard as possible to be able to come back for our 1 year anniversary instead of exploring somewhere new. We loved exploring the island & felt just as safe as at home. 8 nights is a long time but we both felt like we didn’t get into the full isla groove until day 4-5 so we both wanted to stay even longer!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 142 (building 1, floor 4, room 2). It was a suite with a jacuzzi and a balcony ove...

We went as three couples with just one child 8 years old. We had a wonderful time, the hotel is beautiful, the beach, spotless, plenty of palapas and chairs and white sand as fine as flour. The water was turquoise and calm and you were able to walk out quite far before it got deep. We went with two of our daughters, their husbands, and one grandchild. There are not alot of child oriented things to do, but because the hotel is in the town, we had a great time and you are not so confined as in a all-inclusive where it is set away from the town and sort of gets a little boring in the evening. That is what we liked most about this hotel. We had a standard room with balcony overlooking the caribbean and a little section of the town. The room was spotless, no musty smell, with a flat screen tv and very modern. The bathroom was spacious, all marble, and a spacious countertop for your things plus a large marble shower with a great water pressure. We cannot say enough good things about this hotel. We just loved every minute of our stay. The restaurants are just great, our favorite being Cafe del Mar! This is right on the beach, great seafood, great calamari, also if you like the American food, hamburgers, fish fingers, cheese sticks, great french fries, and for the seafood lover, great ceviche, shrimp ceviche, fried calamari and fresh fish to die for, not to mention tacos, pico de gallo, guacamole, etc. And, in the evening, Cafe del Mar is a romantic place for dinner, right on the beach, under large palapas with torches all around, and the food, out of this world. Service was great, and our maitre-d, Pedro, was one of the best! We have been to Dreams, Secrets, in both Tulum, Huatulco, and Puerto Vallarta, and by far, this is our favorite trip, not to mention, Isla Mujeres is just paradise! We loved the fact that the town is right there, so you do not need transportation, it is walking distance to visit the little street full of shops, little Mexican shops with beautiful Mexican souvenirs, not to mention all the beautiful Mexican clothes and jewelry, last but not least on this street, the restaurants, from pizza to cuban sandwiches to spaghetti, Asian food, just the works. And music, oh my gosh, its full of music, Mexican, American, Brazilian. I can't say enough about this hotel, it is exceptional! We want to return asap. This was our first vacation with family, we usually go as a couple, but it was so very enjoyable and a trip we will remember for a lifetime. I wouldn't recommend it for little children as there are not alot of small children activities, nor for that matter, even for an 8 year old, but without the activities, we still had a blast, even our 8 year old grandchild. The beach alone is tons of fun. And, before I forget, the golf carts you can rent to drive around the island, go snorkeling, sightsee, stop at the turtle farm and the beaches in and around the island, restaurants everywhere, you really don't need activities as that is fun in itself for families. We are hoping to return as soon as possible! We have found our hidden paradise. Try it, you will love it. And, last but not least, no one in our group was sick at all, the food is tasty and with alot of variety to please everyone. We just can't wait to return...

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room with a balcony. The ones without a balcony are extremely small and nowhere to...

We just returned from our honeymoon at PA and loved every minute of it! We chose to go with the all-inclusive package and the suite with a private rooftop pool and were extremely satisfied with our experience. Sunsets here are breathtaking and your own private pool is the best place to savor them from ;)

The beach is incredible and you get served while lounging. Some waiters will even track you down if you're in the water ;)

Satay was delicious and the sushi is delicious and safe to eat; I had it two nights and didn't get sick. The fried coconut ice cream was incredible, too!
Buffet food at Sabor really wasn't impressive, but the breakfast omelets were good.
Cafe del Moar always impressed us for lunch and dinner. Quesadillas, nachos, and bisque were all home runs each time.

Ponce, the pool bartender, is top notch! He makes a delicious "dirty monkey" - you must try it. You'll be hooked!

The property is clean and the staff works very hard to give you the best possible experience. I would go back!

Room Tip: Private rooftop pool can't be beat!

I wasn't sure what to expect from reading all of the other reviews about the rooms overlooking the cemetery and school yard but we were in room 454 with the Jacuzzi and it was great! it did overlook the school yard I guess but school was out and we were on the top floor so it wouldn't have mattered anyway no one can see. Also we had partial ocean view which was nice. café del mar was amazing! Satay was amazing! buffet not so much but that is expected. We ate buffet for breakfast every morning and ate café del mar for lunch and split our dinners between café del mar and satay. My only real complaint about our stay is that everything closes down a little earlier than I would have liked. I think everything closes at 10:30 or 11 so no drinks but you can still order food through room service late at night which is free once a day! (with the all inclusive package) the service was great it takes a little longer for beach service but they were very busy at café del mar and at no point did I feel like they were slacking. we went to a couple restaurants outside of the resort and the owner of one asked where we were staying and when we told her she said it was one of the newest and nicest on the island. I agree completely, we traveled the whole island to see what other resorts were there and we definitely had the best location. Best beach shared with a couple of neighboring resorts which were even on that note but this resort is all inclusive which I like better. The resort is within a very short walking distance from the main shopping and restaurant strip where everything is happening yet is still feels secluded.

Room Tip: I would choose Jacuzzi over ocean view if you have to pick one or the other. the room we stayed in w...
