“They're almost there...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

This is a beautiful hotel. It's probably one of the nicest hotels on Isla Mujeres. The location is great, within walking distance to everything downtown. The staff is wonderful. We stayed for a long weekend in September. We had a suite, and it was very large and well-equipped with a huge balcony with a hot tub on it. Nice! The beach area with the beds and palapas is great! However, there are a few issues that need to be addressed. In our shower there was a handheld head that could only be attached to the wall at waste level. haha I either had to squat down for part of my shower or hold the head the entire time. I'm sure at some point there was a place to attach it above and maybe it broke and they never fixed it. Our friends in other rooms had similar small issues, which is the only reason I can't give them an "Excellent" rating.

Suggestion: Don't go all-inclusive. The breakfast buffet that is included with the room is very good but eat your other meals at the lovely restaurants all over the island.

We love privilige aluxes and are here often.. Would not recommend all inclusive unless u are big drinkers. The food has gone downhill. We eat in town most the time. The bar staff is amazing especially Ponce, miguel, jaime, idaieas, jorge, pedro. They always make us feel so welcome and like family. And they always remember us as soon as we walk in. The rooms are great from the standard 1 bedroom to the suites. Most amazing views and great place for pictures. And the BEST white sandy beach and crystall clear blue water

Went for a quick getaway Sept 22-29th and had a great relaxing time. The property is spotless and everyone went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect. With dozens of restaurants literally starting 50ft out the door we decided not to go all inclusive. That is why we only chose the room and breakfast option.
Arrival:
Plane was delayed out of Dallas and got into Cancun around 8:00, processed and ready for transportation around 9:00pm. I reserved transportation, (Entertainment-plus.net - $65.00usd round trip) walked out terminal door and a USA rep met us and we got into van and arrived at the Ultramar ferry dock at Gran Puerto Juarez to Isla Mujeres in about 20 minutes. Ferry tickets over to Isla Mujeres were not included, purchase them for $17.50usd RT in the what looks like a gift shop. We caught a cab at the ferry dock for $4.00usd to the hotel because it was raining. We could have walked because Aluxes is only 4-5 blocks away. (Note: Ferry ride is about 30 min. load to unload . It runs on every half hour.)
Departure:
Checked out of hotel and walked down to the ferry dock and caught the ferry back to the mainland. The USA van was there waiting for us and zipped us to the airport. Quick check in (American Airlines) then poked around the airport and loaded up and headed home.
Rooms:
Originally I had booked a Superior room with the hot tub on the terrace. Room (111) was very nice with but was too low and had only a view of the pool. Decided to upgrade and got a Suite Deluxe (133 a couple of floors up) that had a great view of ocean and pool. Suite had a huge living room and bathroom with a whirlpool tub, but not one on the terrace. That was ok. Room was spotless every day when we returned. You can even request different types of pillows if you want a harder or softer one.
Restaurants and Bars:
Breakfast buffet had a large selection of fruits, breads, the usual hot foods with a couple of local options. Always got a made to order omelet or fried eggs. Around 2:00 would wander down the main street along the beach and have lunch at one of the many places available on the beach and watch the boats come and go. Did have lunch at the Aluxes’s beach restaurant one day. It was very good.
Seemed to have a great swim up bar. Everyone was having a good time. The beach had waiters that would come around every few minutes to ensure you had anything you wanted.
At night we would usually get around about 9:00pm and wander out to eat at one of the dozens of places. Usually would cruise the menus until one sounded good and that is where we would stop. By the end of the week we still had not pre-viewed all the places.
Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The grounds were immaculate!! Pools were spotless clean and had wood decking all around instead of concrete which added to the beauty and was much better to walk on. Had 3 large whirlpools, one by the pool and two secluded behind the massage and workout buildings.
Nice long and deep beach, walk out 150 ft. and still be in sand.

Other Comments:
We dove with SqualoAdventures for 3 days and could not have asked for better service. Squalo diving is an excellent operation, small groups, never more than 4 of us. Dive Masters and crew work to ensure you are comfortable with everything before you go off the boat. Slow easy dives at all depths. Wrecks turtles, eel, lobster and tons of fish every dive. They let you dive at your own pace and keep a sharp eye on the less experienced people. Laid back, no hurry diving.
Will be back again soon.
I have stayed all over Mexico and the Caribbean (from 6 star to 1 star properties) and have to say this was one of the nicest properties I have stayed. This is NOT Cancun!! Laid back slower pace, no crowds, congestion, pushy people, etc. More like Cancun used to be in 1984.

I recently spend 2 nights at this Resort and it was amazing.

Rooms: The rooms are huge, we stayed in a suite, with living room, kitchinette, it was really more than I expected, even the bathroom is very big! Everything was very clean: rooms, restaurants, pool area.

Location: great location, only 5 minute walk from the ferry. This is not a ocean front resort, you only have to cross a road and the beach starts, but you still get the view from the resort.

Food: We where there on the all inclusive, and the food was really bad. What I really liked that not all of the all inclusive resorts offer is that you can order food when you are on the beach, really nice menu including: fish and ships and delicious ceviches and shrimp cocktails. They served this with a creamy habanero sauce served in avocado peel wich was great.
Unfortunately one night we ate at their Oriental restaurant wich was TERRIBLE!!!! the worst meal I have had in my whole life.
We couldnt even finish our meal, didn´t even start it, first bite, we ran away!!! Pad Thai had too many flavours you didn´t even know what you were eating and the sushi was disgusting.

Only positive the manager came afterwards to see us when we were at the bar to apologize and asked us what went wrong so they could improve, he even invited us back to the restaurant so they could cook something else for us, too bad we were so disguted we couldnt eat anything else.

We did order for room service when we where hungry, even if it wasnt terrible it was far from good.

I have to say I was impressed they have so many restaurants for a smaller resort, too bad they are not good. But beautiful setting and decor. (the oriental in gorgeous, lol!)

Over all, our stay was great, only thing to improve is the food!

Will definitly go back but with European plan!

Room Tip: All of the rooms have a nice view to the pool area and a balcony. If you want ocean view you would h...

The hotel has a great location and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The food is not great, but is ok. You can get better dishes at the retaurants that require reservation. The service at the beach is priceless although the drinks could be much better. The room an the bathroom are incredible spacious and well cleaned. The hotel doesn't offer activities for kids which wasn't a problem for my husband and I as we don't have kids. We had a great time there and would recommend that hotel and that island for anyone who is looking for a stress-free vacation.

This was a quick get-a-way for me and my husband. The hotel was older but well kept. The room was large, sort of awkwardly large and wasted space. The pool was nice. The beach was close by with lots of lounges and shade if that's what you need/want. Service overall was good, polite. The food was ok, and there weren't many choices. You better like mexican food because that's basically all they had. Satay was ok too. The price was good, but they stretched it when they called this a 4 star hotel, I'm thinking 3. The only thing i didn't like was if you wanted premium liquor in the pool bar, you didn't get it. The bartender would say they don't have it, but if you went to Cafe bar, they had it. So basically, they had it, but wouldn't go get it. The town was nice, the location is very good, a quick walk from the ferry, not bad at all. Lots of shopping and worth renting a golf cart to travel to the other side of island where there are turtle farms and swimming with Dolphins.

We stayed here for 3 nights it is a great quiet property, fantastic service!!!!! Great food we ate at all there resturants on the property and we never had any problems with stomack things... View and the bed would be my two complaints our view out our room was terrible hotel sits actually across a road from the ocean so that affects the view alot. The bed was terribly hard!! The island it self is very run down but then most of mexico is, but a nice, quiet relaxing place to rest away from the crowds with great SERVICE!!!!!! Rooms very large comfortable and clean with a stocked frig free of charge!
