“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

The hotel has a great location and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The food is not great, but is ok. You can get better dishes at the retaurants that require reservation. The service at the beach is priceless although the drinks could be much better. The room an the bathroom are incredible spacious and well cleaned. The hotel doesn't offer activities for kids which wasn't a problem for my husband and I as we don't have kids. We had a great time there and would recommend that hotel and that island for anyone who is looking for a stress-free vacation.

This was a quick get-a-way for me and my husband. The hotel was older but well kept. The room was large, sort of awkwardly large and wasted space. The pool was nice. The beach was close by with lots of lounges and shade if that's what you need/want. Service overall was good, polite. The food was ok, and there weren't many choices. You better like mexican food because that's basically all they had. Satay was ok too. The price was good, but they stretched it when they called this a 4 star hotel, I'm thinking 3. The only thing i didn't like was if you wanted premium liquor in the pool bar, you didn't get it. The bartender would say they don't have it, but if you went to Cafe bar, they had it. So basically, they had it, but wouldn't go get it. The town was nice, the location is very good, a quick walk from the ferry, not bad at all. Lots of shopping and worth renting a golf cart to travel to the other side of island where there are turtle farms and swimming with Dolphins.

We stayed here for 3 nights it is a great quiet property, fantastic service!!!!! Great food we ate at all there resturants on the property and we never had any problems with stomack things... View and the bed would be my two complaints our view out our room was terrible hotel sits actually across a road from the ocean so that affects the view alot. The bed was terribly hard!! The island it self is very run down but then most of mexico is, but a nice, quiet relaxing place to rest away from the crowds with great SERVICE!!!!!! Rooms very large comfortable and clean with a stocked frig free of charge!

This hotel was very well kept and the staff was more than accomodating. The food at Satay was very good. I didn't have a chance to try Sabor, but the pool bar food was ok. The only real complaint I have with the hotel is that the bar closed by 10pm. The town itself has several fun bars and the people were amazing. Everyone was super nice! The food in town was really tasty as well. The room in the hotel was nice and the bed was comfortable! I would definitely return to this hotel. Another cool thing was that the beach had several chairs and umbrellas with waiters and wifi. It was very relaxing.

It is a small island so it is worth it to rent a golf cart and go exploring. Punta Sur is a beautiful place and very different than the north where the hotel is.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors are more quiet but I didnt have any issues with the noise.

My husband and I went to Isla Mujeres for the first time 9/15/12-9/21/12 and had a wonderful time! PA is located on the most beautiful beach and our room overlooked the pools and beach - amazing view! We got a good deal with the deluxe suite ocean view room on the 4th floor through Expedia and it was perfect! We did our transfers through Expedia also (Best Day) and had no problems. They take you from the airport to the ferry and from the ferry back. When you get to the island you can pay a guy with a bike to carry your luggage whatever you want or just walk yourself a few blocks down the street or take a taxi for about $5.00. We enjoyed chilling on the beach, being waited on hand and foot, and just relaxing. We also rented a golf cart and went all around the island a couple of days. It is so safe and fun to see many beautiful sites on this small island. Renting golf cart from the hotel is a little more expensive than across the street. We loved Punta Sur! The view is amazing! We had a wonderful lunch there with the most amazing view overlooking the other end of the island. We also went to Gariffon Park Costillo (or something like that - not the big Garrifon park, the one that is more reasonable right next to it.) It only cost $5.00 per person to snorkel there and the fish come right up to you. You don't even have to snorkel, the fish are everywhere. They have equipment there to rent, we had our own. If you keep going out further to the left there are tons of fish along a reef almost to the dock. We went there twice. We also went to the turtle farm. It was interesting and not too expensive, I think $3.00 pp but noone there speaks English and you just look at turtles and don't really get much information. My husband went snorkeling with a group of people. A guy (Tarzan) came around on the beach one day to get people to go on his boat out to the reefs. Others were doing it so since he had his own snorkel gear he only charged him $20 rather than the $30. Well worth it! He saw some amazing fish just minutes away from PA by a reef that goes all the way to Belize. The highlight of our trip was visiting the Mayan ruins with Alma LDS tours. They were absolutely amazing! We spent an entire day visiting Tulum, eating at an awesome Mexican buffet restaurant, and Chichen Itza. You can't imagine all the history and amazing sites we were able to enjoy! It was so well worth the money! Our tour guide Miguel was so knowledgeable and spoke perfect English! Overall our vacation was amazing and we had a wonderful time in the most beautiful setting!!!
Now the negatives: PA does not give you any information when you check in about the three restaurants and what to do on the island. I think almost every night they had a band playing at Cafe del Mar and special themes a couple of nights. It was really cool, but they don't let you know which restaurant has what and when. I think Sabor has a buffet all the time? Breakfasts were really good, lunch and dinner were good, but just a little different food than what we are used to. Cafe del Mar is right on the beach, the most beautiful setting and so romantic! That's where we ate most of the time. Most things were really good, others not so much. Stay away from the hamburgers they were awful! I got sick about day 4 and had brought Cipro (RX I had asked my Dr. for before hand in case this happened) and started taking it as soon as symptoms started. I was only sick for about 1-1/2 days. I didn't drink any of the water, but I did drink sodas with ice in it which they said was purified. Don't drink from the tap or shower at all! No telling where I got it, but my husband was fine. The only other complaint we had is the bedding. The beds are hard and the sheets are poor quality and very rough. You can ask for a mattress topper which helped a little. Everything is very clean but just not that comfortable! The only other thing we didn't like were the vendors going up and down the beach selling their goods. Overall everything was very beautiful, very well maintained, in a wonderful location! We would recommend this for couples, not much for children at this resort.
