“Paradise behind the red door!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

If like me you believe that a big all-inclusive hotel is one step from hell (and hell itself is a cruise ship), then you may just agree that this place is heaven! Every time I stepped through the red door I felt I was going somewhere magical (yes, I'm just a big kid).
Magda and David were wonderful, not too intrusive, but do everything they can to ensure their guests are happy. I endorse everything that has already been said about the amazing breakfasts and their recommendations of restaurants, beach clubs and excursions are all absolutely spot-on. It really was a wrench to leave and we will return soon.

We loved our stay with Magda and her husband Dave. She is Mexican and he is a Canadian. They were terrific hosts, and Magda’s breakfasts were everything we could have asked for. Coffee, tea, toasts, home-made breads, fruit and Mexican specialties were included. They were good company as well as gracious hostess and host. The Villa is within the main business district and a few streets from the waterfront. Magda’s restaurant suggestions were spot on and our three-night stay was perfect. A nice little pool was a refreshing end-of-day stop after our snorkeling and beach excursions. This was great value and a taste of real Cozumel as opposed to the big hotels, not to mention our proximity to the heart of downtown. Highly recommended!

My husband and I recently stayed at Villa Escondida for our 25th anniversary, and had a wonderful time. We were going back and forth about whether to stay at one of the all-inclusive resorts, or at this B & B which had gotten such great reviews (and was so much more affordable), and we definitely made the right choice! It was so nice to be in town, able to walk to restaurants, the square, the waterfront, shopping, etc, without having to rent a car or take expensive taxi rides everywhere. We were able to try so many different amazing restaurants, rather than feeling like we needed to eat at the resort every day since we had paid for it (Magda has a great little book where she has written reviews of lots of restaurants in the area, as well as the beach clubs -- a great resource!). And we didn't feel like one of hundreds in one of the huge hotels -- it's such a quiet, intimate place, so peaceful and relaxing.

The villa truly is an oasis, with beautiful gardens and pool, and the rooms are beautiful, clean and comfortable. Magda's breakfasts each morning were amazing, gourmet Mexican dishes with delicious fresh fruit as a first course. Dave and Magda are the perfect hosts -- full of great information and tips if you ask, but never intrusive at all. Very highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed at Villa Escondida for a week in November. David and Magda were the perfect hosts. Very helpful and friendly. We felt like we were staying with friends, not strangers. Magda made us a delicious breakfast every morning, including many traditional Mexican dishes. The location is perfect, just a few minutes walk from the main part of town and the port. The room was very nice. All in all a highly recommended B&B and we will definitely stay there again if we are ever back in Cozumel.

An oasis of calm awaits through the double doors leading into the villa. The villa is centrally located, but you forget about the hustle and bustle of the streets outside the second that you cross the threshold. The courtyard garden is beautiful and relaxing, and the rooms are spot on. Magda and David are extremely welcoming without being intrusive, and are happy to offer great tips and advice. The breakfasts are amazing - never the same two days running! All in all a fantastic place to stay in Cozumel.

Loved our stay in Cozumel, and our Hosts were one of the best we ever met. Ditto all other reviewers, and the pictures do not lie. Would love to come back soon...and enjoy all the great moments all over again.

Magda was amazing, so friendly and loved visiting with her, and David had good suggestions on the island. Our king room was very comfortable, especially the A/C, can't imagine a room without air!! The tropical humidity can cause a slight mustiness, but a/c helps elimate this situation. Bath was very large and clean. Coffee is excellent, and breakfast a real treat.

We appreciated not having to prepay before we arrived, and gladly paid cash once we were ready to leave. Perhaps it was our last minute (3 days in advance) reservation, but this made good business sense to us.

They also have other Cozumel properties 3 bedroom (all kingsize beds, Magda has done her market research!) mid-town apartment & 1 bed oceanfront condo, so if B&B isn't your thing, ask about these.

Learned from other US tourist, the Mega Market or Wal-Mart-like Chedraui are the best places to ATM, and/or buy anything you may need.

Our Favorite Places to Eat: La Choza (just across the street! Go for lunch special, ask David)
Del Sur (empanadas & steak) El Foco (guacamole, burritos - but saw their whole fish entree, and wish we had ordered that!) All in walking distance from Villa Escondida.

Best Drinks: Agave (on the Square, ask Magda) $5 Margarita, in different flavors. I loved the Coconut...and daughter said the Cucumber was the best she ever had! Skip Margaritaville $10 drinks...unless you just want to use their waterfront playground.

Room Tip: All four room are identical...King Bed, A/C in separate building towards back of property, parking i...

A perfect home-base for a Cozumel vacation! The location is fantastic, being located very close to the main plaza and within luggage pulling distance to the ferry from Playa del Carmen. Madga and David are great hosts. I loved their authentic Mexican breakfasts which always included fresh squeezed orange juice and a generous plate of sliced fruits. The property is beautiful and the rooms are perfectly laid out and decorated in Mexico style. My sister and I stayed in the upstairs room that has two single beds, which were extremely comfortable.
