After MUCH research on the best value for a SCUBA vacation...we decided on Coral Reef Club. The pictures and description are very descriptive, so I won't double up on the info. The accomodations, along with the diving, is the BEST value in town. One welcome tank for a shore dive upon arrival, 7nights, 5 two tank mornings & 4 one tank afternoons...ALL BOAT DIVES! If you're diving, you'll need to get to the Barracuda every morning @8a. It's less than a 10 minute walk, but after 5 days back & forth & maybe again for an afternoon/night dive...the walk gets a little exhausting - not to worry, though, boucoup taxis offering the $3 ride back. Besides the obvious comforts and value of having your own al fresco kitchen & equipment rinsing station, a great value to this place is the fact that there are two, young, energetic and knowledgable americans who run the place...no communication problems (my spanish is weak) and were spot on is recommending things we'd appreciate and warning us from things that might dissappoint. Scott & Cindy saved us time & money, e.g. walk to the road at the airport for a taxi and save $20, taxi drivers don't expect tip, so save it. Unless we needed them, they were invisible! It really was like we owned the place. The ONLY thing keeping this from being a luxury hotel is that there is no "service"or fancy furniture...again, just like home. As kind as Scott & Cindy are, I imagine if you asked for ANYTHING they'd try hard to please you, anyway. The biggest tip I could give you is to walk down (3 blocks) to the grocery, buy a bottle of tequila, some coffee, eggs, fresh fish, oranges, tortillas, beer, walk it back & stick it all in the fridge. We grilled some peppers & fresh fish under moonlight & had a romantic meal...Keep in mind, this is all rooftop on the third floor. While we did drink only bottled water, we had NO problem with fish, eggs or produce. Have coffee & eggs in the mornings & watch the nuns accross the street going through their morning ritual. Instead of blowing your budget at Margaritaville, invite some friends or dive buddies over, turn on the rope lighting upstairs, put a cd in the player, pop some beers and sit under the stars until the early hours enjoying Cozumel's perfect midnight weather...Your friends will admire your savy in choosing such a great place & regret their decision to stay at their all-inclusive. Knowing Cozumel well now, this is the only place we'll stay.
