I purchased a tour though Arturo. He was extremely quick to respond via e-mail, professional, funny, and helpful. I ended up having to cancel because of illness, and even though we were inside of the 24hr cancellation period, Arturo managed to convince the tour operator to refund us our money. He then hand delivered it to me at my hotel no less, and was apologetic that my girlfriend was sick and had to cancel. Not if, but when I return to Cozumel I will only book through Safe Tours. Thanks again Arturo,
-Matt

Thank you Matt. I was so sorry your girlfriend was sick and it was my pleasure to accommodate you. It’s the least I could do, our clients become our friends and our concern for you was the same as if you had been able to make the tour; the best possible experience and memory of Cozumel!! So, get back down here soon we’ll be waiting.

“Excellent tour and lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We stopped off at Cozumel as part of our cruise itenary. We were looking for a small personal tour which would give us a good introduction to the island and ideally a feel for the local culture. We came across Safe Tours Cozumel, by checking reviews on Trip advisor, it lived up to its name!

Arturo made contact and provided all details for where to meet based on our cruise company, providing contingency options just in case we docked at a diiferent pier and provided contact details for phone contact if required. Based on docking knowledge he even suggested different times to meet in advance of our trip. Once we were on the cruise, we realised we could meet up two hours earlier than originally booked (cruise ships stay on home port time, for any novices out there like us and Cozumel is two hours behind Florida). A quick email and times were all brought forward 2 hours, excellent service and no hassle.

We had booked a five hour acheological tour (different options are available check out the safe tours website), on docking we made our way to the agreed meeting point and Arturo introduced himself and our driver for the day, Nelson. Arturo explained that Nelson would takes us to any locations we wished to visit, Mayan ruins, Artisan Chocolate Manufacturer, Tequila tasting, Tortilla making and a general tour of the island with an introduction to it's history. If we wished to stop off and smim/snorkel not a problem just let Nelson know. He explained we had booked 5 hours including lunch and cold drinks whilst in the taxi, total cost $180, and explained if we required additional hours this was not a problem and would cost $20/hour. We paid our outstanding balance of $150 (deposit of $30 paid prior to trip to confirm reservation) and left with Nelson, Arturo said he would meet up with us towards the end of the tour.

Nelson was again very good speaking excellent English. He took us to some local monuments and explained the Mayan and Spanish history of the islands. This was followed by a local Artisan Chocolate Manufacturer, where you get the chance to taste and purchase (no pressure selling) we then stopped off at a back street tortilla manufacturer, just to look at the process, before heading off to the main event which was the Mayan ruins at San Gervasio. The entrance fee was not included in the tour, it was $8/person. Nelson left us to our own devices to go and see the ruins which took about one and a half hours. When we came out he met us and took us on a general tour of the island, regularly offering points we may wish to stop and visit or take photographs.

Finally we went for lunch at the 'Casa Mission' which was very pleasant surprise. The website advertised a traditional Mexican lunch and to be honest we expected to end up at some relatively cheap tourist based bar, but as with the rest of the tour it was excellent. The Mission is set within a walled garden in the main part of town, yes, it caters for tourists, but it is by no means a bus'em in and kick'em out location. It offers a full menu 3 course menu based on local mexican cuisine. As our meal was pre-paid we presented the vouchers provided by Arturo and were explained our options. We had tortilla chips and fresh salsa, followed by black bean soup (gorgeous) and whilst we had a choice of mains all three prompted for Fajitas which came with refried beans and fresh guacemole. The Fajitas were truely superb and the tortialla wraps were unlike anything I have ever experienced in the UK. Drinks were not included in the price, two beers and one coke cost us $9, very reasonable for the location. Being nosey we had a quick peek at the menu and our lunch selection would have been in the region of $60, whilst I am sure Arturo has an 'arrangement' I certainly did not feel mugged.

On leaving the restaurant (our choice, we could have stayed longer and had more drinks), Nelson returned us to the port where we met up with Arturo. He was anxious to get feedback on the tour and ensure we had enjoyed it. In reality he had been paid and had no need to see us again, but this just reflected on the nature of his service.

Putting things into perspective, this was probably the best of the three excursions we did on the cruise. It was personal, private and we got out as much as we put in. You certainly felt safe with Safe Tours Cozumel and the price was competitive, a private taxi organised by the cruise company would have beentwice the price and not inclusive of lunch. Whilst as with all things organising them privately takes more research and increases the element of risk, this proves if done properly it is well worth the effort and you get a much more personal experience. Compared to a bus tour with 30 plus others organised by the Cruise company.

Arturo and Nelson thanks for an excellent day!

You just did a better job of describing what we do than we could! What a great review, thank you. We are particularly happy you felt safe, that you felt it was a really good price for what you got and that you enjoyed your day so much. Makes us happy and we really appreciate getting feedback about our service. Come back and see us soon.

“Great tour with Nelson and Arturo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

Great tour on one of our Cruise ship stops

This was despite the cruise ship Riviera taking us to a different pier than they advertised, as Arturo had given us contingency plans for this eventuality we managed to meet up with Dennis our driver.

We had 3 interesting stops at a chocolate factory a Tequilla tasting and tour and a cameo manufacturing outlet.
The price included a meal which was in a beautiful garden restaurant.

Thank you for pointing out our focus on contingency plans, the last two reviews have mentioned that and we feel it is so important. It is so frustrating and scary for some people to suddenly have plans change and without cell phones on vacation in another country, what do you do? We make sure we prepare you in advance. We’d hate to see you wandering the streets asking everyone how to find your tour! We’re happy you joined us in Cozumel.

“5 Hour Tour - WOW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Arturo confirmed both via e-mail & phone as I booked at the last minute. He was very specific as to where to meet & how to recognize him & even covered where to meet if the ship went to a different dock. We were totally impressed with his attention to detail as well as his excellent English. We celebrated our 24th anniversary on Cozumel & loved every minute of it thanks to him & his wonderful driver Nelson. They even provided beverages for the ride. We visited a synagogue, chocolate factory, beach, tequila factory and had a terrific lunch - all included. Safe Tours REALLY lives up to its name. This is our 4th visit to Cozumel & got to see even more of the island this trip. Can't wait to return. Count on us to call Arturo and set up another tour then!

“Excellent tour, excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I booked this as a day tour introduction to Cozumel. It was great! Arturio met us as planned and introduced us to our private driver Mario. Not really knowing what to expect, we told Mario we were interested in history, local culture and, of course, the beaches. And we were off! Mario took us around the entire island, pointing out monuments, churches, how the locals live, and historical sights. Whenever we wanted we got out and looked around. We saw beaches (I think the Rastafarian's beach club was my favorite) and had a nice lunch at Casa Mission (separate review). Arturo took very good care of us and Mario was a great guide and driver. Excellent tour, excellent value.
