My wife and I stayed at the Melia from May30th to June 2nd. Wife booked the trip and stayed there based on the positive reviews she read. And believe me, they were accurate. We had an ocean view and the view was spectacular. Room was spacious and clean. Hotel overall was always spotless and the staff was very friendly. Restaurant had great food and the staff was always very accomodating. They have 2 pools, one more for adults and the other for kids. The kids pool 2-3 feet deep on one end and the other was 4.5 ft deep. Great bar. Only complain I had was they had built a pier a little south of the hotel and that cause the water to be a little muddy. The pier prevented the kelp to move down shore. They are supposed to break the pier but I don't know when. If not, the beach would have been perfect. Perfect sand without a lot of rocks or shells. Highly recommend it.

  • Liked — Relaxing atmosphere
  • Disliked — The beach right in front of the hotel had kelp and was muddy due to a pier just south of the hotel.

Stayed at the Melia` this year after walking through it in 06. We were very pleased with our stay.

The beach was great, after hearing some complaints we were very satisfied with the beach, you can walk forever!

Food was average in the buffet, the resturant was good, but we were a little let down with the fact we were not told you could order items such as lobster, ahead a time with the front desk. This particular item was not on the menu, but on a seperate private menu kept at the front desk. The beach grill was fantastic, never went hungry, and there was always plenty of food, plus another guy grilling seperatly things such as tbone steaks, chicken and pork...AWSOME!

Service was friendly, but if you didn't constantly leave a dollar you wouldn't get service, this is the first year that has really happened. We always tip where appropriate but were never not served because of tips.

We were in the tower that didnt have an elevator running yet, this wasn't too bad, however it is when your hauling luggage. I found that the whole resort is full of steps, you can't get anywhere without taking steps. So this resort isnt necessarily good if you cant do steps, have small children or are traveling with the elderly.

Activities were well put together and the staff tried real hard to recruit for all of their activities.

There are vendors that come in every night to sell their stuff. We thought the people that came in were very nice and not pushy like we have seen at other resorts in the past.

Drinks were well made and we never had any issues with our beverages! Also you get water bottles in your room daily for drinking which is also nice.

The Melia` is the Northern most hotel in Cozumel, just a 5 minute cab ride to town which is awesome! I like being close to town. Also the golf course is right across the street, and you can get an all inclusive golf package with the Melia`. It is a nice course, but bring plenty of balls, and don't go in to the rough, or a gator will chew your arm off. Also, the golf carts in Mexico are extremely fast, not like in the states!

Executive car rental is just down the road which also is really nice and convienent. We had no issues with renting our car and touring the whole island. It is safe and easy to navigate around the island.

Diving in Cozumel is wonderful!! There are so many dive shops you can swing a dead cat and hit one. We dove with Suba Staff Divers and we were pleased. Last year we went diving with the dive shop at the El Cozumeleno when we stayed there. They are also very nice, however it should be known that the El Coz and the Melia` are feuding and they are not afraid of their guests knowing, it is very public. That was a turn off for us.

All in all we were happy with our Melia` stay, this was our second year on the North Zone. It is close to town and beautiful. However next year its time to travel and stay in the South hotel zone of Cozumel! She is a beautiful island and is worth a look.

  • Liked — Close to town, just being back in Cozumel
  • Disliked — too many steps

Everyone has a preference about where they like to stay in Cozumel. For my partner and I, we have fallen in love with the Melia Cozumel Hotel which is on the north side of the island. It's an 8 min shuttle ride from the airport. This time, we booked through VacationsToGo.com and found a great deal on the room we wanted, and including travel insurance and to/from airport transfer in Mexico, the total was still better than what i could get on solmelia.com!!! and if you can, work with Denise Cain, she was a wonderful travel agent to work with. Ok, about the hotel, well, for the 3rd straight year, we have visited this hotel. 1.) it's quiet 2.) the staff at this hotel are all very friendly and we have made friends with Ignacio at the Restaurant whom has worked at this site for over 32 years! 3.) the room is not super nice but it's well kept and we have our own jacuzzi and it's 10 steps away from the beach 4.) the amenities are great, they have tennis, golf, basketball, beach volley net and fitness gym for those active ones, a nice big pool with water volleyball net, or an adult pool for those who likes to mingle with others 5.) the food selection is great though i must say the taste is a bit different, but they are still good for the option and their drinks are muy bueno and so is their breakfast!
Try it and see if you like it...now if you like to scuba, this hotel does have a scuba shop, and the price is fair for a 2-tank dive, BUT, you'll have to take a taxi downtown and meet them at the Aldora Pier. Have fun!!

  • Liked — The Staff and our paradise suite
  • Disliked — The beach chairs were everywhere and not put together after a busy day for the next morning, so we have to move them and clean the huts after previous use

I was not expecting much since the reviews were so critical. But, this place is excellent and I would go again and again.
Rooms - We were orginally booked for a garden room. For $30 more a night we upgraded to a junior suite and it was awesome. The room was fabulous and first class. We had 2 flat screen TVs with cable, a king-size, 4 poster bed, and a jacuzzi on our balcony, which overlooked the ocean! Always had hot water in our roomy bathroom.
Pool & Beach - The pool is right next to the beach and we hung there most times. The beach is clean and there were NO VENDORS hassling us. First time ever for me in Mexico. The water has alot of seaweed and is very rocky so I recommend shoes. But, the water is great temp and not many waves. I am told the other side of the island has more waves and clearer water.
Food - All times we ate at the resort were at the buffet. This was more than adequate. If you are not a picky American, you will be happy with the food. For an all-inclusive, the place is great.
Outside resort - We went into town (El Centro) a couple nights ($5 cab ride) and ate at some great restaurants. I recommend La Concita del Caribe for great seafood (they close at 7:30) and La Mission (for Mexican food). Both were wonderful and inexpensive. One warning: the portions of food at La Concita are HUGE so go easy on appetizers (1 order for 1 will feed 3). The people in town and so nice and you will feel very safe.
Families - This place has a family pool (and adult one) but I am not sure I would bring my child. Since the shallow water is so rocky, you wont let your kid go in too far into the ocean. I would recommend this place to couples and groups but DEFINITELTY NOT FOR YOUNG SINGLES as there is not any hard partying going on at the resort and people either go to bed early or go into town. My husband and I were wondering where everyone was at 12:30a.m.
Overall - We went for a weekend getaway and loved every minute.

After reading all of the reviews for this hotel I was very worried that we would be disappointed but that wasnt the case at all.
We had a wonderful time.

The drinks were yummy, the food was great, lots of hot water in showers and rooms were cleaned everyday.

We didnt encounter any bug problem and we were on the beach everyday. From what other guest said perfume lotions make the bugs bite.

The staff was wonderful. They are ready to take care of your every need. My husband had a clogged ear and asked if there was any ear drops in the gift shop and one of the staff members (may have been a manager) drove to town and got some drops for his ear.

Had a fun time painting pottery. It is an extra charge but the end product is well worth it. Very relaxing and nice souvenir to bring home that you helped make.

The only bad thing I have to say is that we had a ground level room and the room did have a musty smell when we arrived and everything (papers, clothes, sheets) had a damp feeling to them.
I had read other reviews and they recommended air fresheners. The little tree air fresheners that are for cars work well.

The only time we ran into time share people was at the airport. Never saw one at the hotel.

All in all we had a great vacation and cant wait to go back next year.
