I was a little worried before we went...but the resort was absolutely delightful. We took our 7 mos old baby. We found the grounds/landscaping to be just beautiful, the rooms clean and attractive, the staff extremely friendly and kind, and the pool and beach very nice. The kids pool was quite cold for some reason- perhaps just bec the temp was about 75-80 degrees, so not hot enough to make you want to jump in.
Yes, there are sand fleas, but just avoid the beach at dusk/night and you'll be fine.
The food was very good. There was a nice selection- especially loved breakfast with all the fresh fruit- and they always cooked something fresh on the grill for you (usually better than the buffet). They really take pride in making the dining room and food choices attractive and that was noticeable- esp on Mexican night. We loved the outside dining area which overlooked the beach.

For Families with small children: There are a lot of stairs here. About half the resort is stroller friendly, but be sure to bring a carrier if you have a small one.
We originally were assigned to the 2nd floor (no elevator) in one of the short buildings, but we asked to switch to a room w king bed (which we had originally reserved). They moved us to the ground floor which proved wonderful due to the stroller. If you want a ground floor room be sure to ask for one.
We were able to get from our room to the dining hall w/o going up stairs, but to the beach or the lobby required long staircases, just fyi.
My husband and baby got sick (something they had back in NY) and they quickly located an excellent doctor who saw us twice in his office in town.

We were just very pleased with this affordable and friendly resort.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, beautiful landscaping, dining area overlooking the beach
  • Disliked — Cold pools
  • Tips/Secrets: — Difficult for stroller families or people with disabilities. Bring carrier.

The hotel had excellent service but that was about it. The food was terrible and the selection was horrible. WORST OF ALL THE BEACH AND POOL HAS SAND FLEAS!!!! My girlfriend and myself are still scratching the hundreds of flee bites we each have!!! I feel like I have the chicken pox all over again!!!

We just got back yesterday and WOW!!
We arrived at the hotel 2 hours early fully expecting to sit around waiting to check in, imagine our surprise when we were not only allowed to check in but upgraded to a suite!!
Within 1 minute of entering the lobby, we were handed cool drinks which were very welcome after a long trip!
The food there was excellent, the only average food was in the snack bar, everything else was excellent. Cafe Paraiso was phenomenal but there is a dress code there so men take a pair of khakis, a polo shirt and closed shoes, you will be glad that you did!! The wait staff are incredibly attentive and extremely friendly, they really appreciate the $2 or $3 that you leave on the table when you leave.
The only down side to the hotel is the beach, the water is not clear by the hotel but do to the FREE snorkeling trip one dya and they will take you to a beach that has crystal clear water. We rented a jeep one day and drove over to the beaches on the other side of the island, it was well worth the money, as they were stunning.
PACK BUG SPRAY!!! I have never been so bitten in all of my life, apply it constantly, when you wake up, throughout the day and before you go to bed, if we had been more diligent then we would not have been eaten alive.
The hotel puts on a show a 9.00 every night, we dismissed them at the beginning of our stay however when we finally went to one we were very impressed and I wished we had seen more of them.
Overall it was a great trip and we were very impressed with the resort.

  • Liked — The staff were amazing
  • Disliked — The bugs on the beach
  • Tips/Secrets: — Take $$ as credit cards are not as widely accepted when shopping as we had expected

This resort was incredible! From the moment we arrived the staff was very polite and looked after us extremely well. Our room were very clean and comfortable and the food was awesome! The activitity staff is great and they put on some good shows each night. The only minor complaint is the beach. While the beach has beautiful white sand, the water is not as clear as other spots on the island. It is still fine to swim but you don't get the crystal clear water that is known in Cozumel. Here is a tip though, use the great beach at the Melia but just walk 150ft to the next resort and use their public beach access to swim. The other resort is on the other side of a pier so the water is beautiful and the snorkeling is really good. If you don't care about swimming in the ocean then just use one of the two well maintained pools that the Melia has to offer.

The resort is also really close to downtown so I highly recommend taking the free bikes from the resort and going on a bike ride downtown. Also, rent a car and tour the island. Well worth the money. The snorkeling is a must if you ask me.

I highly recommend this resort to anyone with families or couples that are just looking to get away somewhere nice and relaxing. If you are looking to just party hard and dance the night away, well it is all inclusive but I think you would be better off at another resort.

The hotel is fabulous we go there almost every year. Been to four other resorts on cozumel and we go back to the Melia. The people who work there are so friendly and the service is excellent. Tip them a little bit and they will really take care of you.
I get bit by sand fleas also. Here is how to avoid them. Before going out in the morning spray your lower legs with some bug repellant and you will be ok. Do not go on the beach in the late evening and night. The food is plentiful and excellent.
The night time and day time entertainment is excellent. The kids love the games that they play everyday and the prizes they can win. When we are home they ask us when can we go back to cozumel. Be sure to visit the rest of the island. Our favorite beach is Chen Rio on the other side of the island. Playa azul beach is great and just a quarter of a mile south of the hotel.
Shopping in the town and some out of the way places is a bargain. If you can be there during the Carnival in town during
Feb/march it is worth it.
