This place was awesome. It was our first time in Cozumel. My husband and I traveled with my dad and his fiance. We used the RCI exchange with our timeshare and got the 'two bedroom', which is essentially, two rooms connected with a door that locks. The rooms were great, we were on the fifth floor in the big tower with an ocean view. There wasn't a lot of noise and at night (every night) we slept with the balcony doors open to hear the ocean. It was great. The weather wasn't that great while we were there (strong winds) but you would never know it at this resort. The staff was more than friendly and did everything they could to accommodate us in everything we asked for. I have no idea what those people are talking about when they said they were harrassed by timeshare people ON the resort, because we were not asked once and neither was the other couple we were with. In town however, a completely different story, but at the resort, not once. Arturo the bartender was fantastic. Was quick to refill our drinks when we were out and was great conversation. We joked with him the whole vacation.
As fo rthe food, the buffet was like any other buffet. Nothing spectacular but more than edible. Actually, the breakfast one was great and they serve great mimosas. We ate at the snack bar for lunch a couple of times and although the food was cold some of the time, it was still good. We never got to eat at the 'fancy' restaraunt. Actually, before you go, be sure the men pack long pants and collared shirts and the women pack a dress or skirt or something. There is a dress code we were unaware of and therefore were unable to go, but heard it was great.
There are nightly shows that are actually pretty good. Some of them ask for audience participation and you win stuff (bottle of tequila, bottle of wine, spa cert., etc) The casino night was fun and the entertainment staff work overtime to make sure you have fun every night.
We went to the spa two seperate days. My dads fiance and I each had two massages and a facial over the course of the week and she had a mani/pedi. Each service was catered to us and was absolutely wonderful. Definitely worth the money.
There is excellent snorkeling at the hotel to the left of the little pier. There are lots of fish to see and it's free, so definitely check it out.
Overall, our stay was wonderful. We all had a good time and were glad we stayed there. It's not the Ritz, but we aren't into that anyway, so this was perfect. It was comfortable enough to sit in the lobby at night in sweats drinking cocktails and playing cards, but, nice enough to get dressed to go to a show or the fancy restaraunt. Should we return to Cozumel, we will definitely stay here again.

My Fiance has a time share here. This was his third visit and my first. The resort is clean and the staff is very accomodating. Your glass will never be empty, they keep a close eye to make sure they have another beverage in your hand before you take the last sip of your first one. The lobby is warm and inviting with candles and insense buring throughout the day and evening. The lobby bar is only open til 1am, but they always have a few warm snacks available for those craving late night munchies as well as hot tea and coffee.
The food selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner are sure to have something for every taste. They try to change up the menu daily, and always have available mountains of fresh fruit and a wide variety of breads and rolls and pastries. For breakfast you can get almost anything! Pancakes, Waffles, French Toast, smoothies, yogurt, cereal, eggs, sausage, bacon, hot oatmeal, potatoes, plus at least two hot meat creations and an omelet station.
We visited the upscale restaurant once, (you need to make reservations & there is a dress code) it was very quiet and
perfect for a romantic dinner for two. The food selections are limited, but good. The chicken seems to have a "gamey" taste which they cover nicely with plenty of seasoning. In fact, most of the food is prepared with a variety of spices and seasonings and are quite unique and different than anything served in US restaurants.
Having visited Cancun in early 1990, I was leary of drinking the water and eating the lettuce on the resort in fear of excessive trips to the bathroom, but all the water served including the ice is bottled. I had no problems at all. HOWEVER, if you go into town, BE CAREFUL. Thats where you might run into a problem. Steer clear of mixed drinks with ice or even the McDonalds...Coke is made with lots of water and ice. Pack some Immodium just in case.
The beach is nice, they rake the seaweed from the shoreline each morning, but there is still plenty floating around in the water, and it's kind of rocky in some spots should you decide to take a dip in the ocean. The water doesn't have that clear turquoise appearance until you swim out past the seaweed beds.
There are two pools, one for Adults only which is GREAT!!!! They are spotlessly cleaned every morning and the water temp is perfect. Not too cold or too warm.
Some water sports are available at no charge (except for motorized ) You can rent snorkeling gear for 2 hours for free or $8 per day. There is a great place to snorkel at the pier located to the left of the Melia resort.
All in all, this was a very relaxing vacation. However, if it rains, there's not much to do other than work out in the gym or watch TV in the room.
The only negatives were the mosquitoes that come out at dusk, they will eat you alive!! Bring some insect repellant!! Plus, we seemed to be attacked at night around the ankels by some sort of insect, sand fleas or something. Bring some repellant and some anti-itch cream and you'll be okay.
Otherwise, this a perfect place to relax, unwind , be lazy ang get pampered a bit. Great for couples as well as families, and the kids are kept occupied so the adults can relax in peace.
We did not use the SPA services (except for the steam room), but the facility looked very inviting. Maybe next time we'll indulge!
We'll be back soon!

  • Liked — Pool & beach. And the cleanliness of the resort. Food was good too.

I am a travel agent in Oklahoma. Everytime I go somewhere I like to stay at different resorts so that I can tell my clients all about it. I am sorry to say the the Melia Cozumel is not a resort that I will sell to my clients. The first night was great until we took a walk on the beach. By the next morning both of us were covered in bites all over our legs and feet. We went to the store at the resort and had to pay $11.00 for a can of OFF and $7.00 dollars for an anti-itch cream. At first we thought they were mosquito bites but after looking at them we noticed that they just kept spreading. We didn't want to go to the doctor in Mexico so we just toughed it out until we got home. Our doctor said that we have something that is known as Sea Lice. He said that it is common in that area, but I have been to Cozumel and Cozumel before and have never gotten them! Needless to say we are now on antibotics! They say it could take 2 days to 2 weeks to heal!

Now about the resort. The staff were really helpful and nice! The little snack bar by the beach was wonderful! That is about the only nice thing that I can say about this hotel! The buffet was ok on certain days! (breakfast was good, dinner was bad). In our room we noticed that when they put new sliding glass doors in they forgot to add a guard so we had a 2inch gap to the outside that I'm sure let all kinds of bugs in. The upstairs bathroom always leaked down into ours so we had to clean the floor every morning.

We were just there from Friday to Monday and let me just say that it was the longest weekend of my life. This is the first time I have every been to Mexico that I was looking forward to coming home!

Take an extra $150 for doctor, trips to town/pharmacy. This beautiful beach has sand fleas. The doctor that treated me said that resorts north of town, closer to jungle/marsh/golf courses, are more likely to have this problem. Manager Mr. F.F. initially claimed "no knowledge" and later changed to "is nature". My unscientific study: I had bites (over 300) my travel companion did not, a couple that flew down with us, he had bites, she did not, a couple of 5 adults we hung with, 2 had bites, 3 did not. Much too high a precentage to risk, in my opinion. I originally thought I was the only person affected but after talking openly about it, I discovered others. The question I asked Mr. F.F. "how hard would it be to give the most casual of warning in the handout at check-in"? I would have gone to the on site gift shop for bug spray had I had any idea. Mr. F.F. unspoken, but clear message , was that tourists (me) should know better as "is nature". My experience, on beaches in this immediate area, is extensive: 10 days Playa del Carmen last year, trips to Cancun & Isla Mujeres plus 5 previous trips to Cozumel (stayed south of town) all without sand fleas. I had to spend the remainder (unfortunately prepaid) of a 12 day stay at the pool. I book beach vacations for the beach; I have a pool. Even if this resort was perfect (it was not but the staff for the bar and restaurant did a good job of accommodating) I would still have to vote "Do Not Go to Melia". Cozumel is still a favorite of mine and will return to south side of town resorts in future.

My wife and I arrived on a Wednesday. The hotel and grounds were beautiful, and very clean. After we checked in we were given the customary time share sales pitch in the lobby. The first two days the service was OK, but we noticed a change on the third day as the staff became scarce and service declined.

It is an all inclusive resort. The first several days they had well laid out buffets at all meals with plenty of different selections. The third day for lunch there was no buffet. They had laid out cold cuts and had some salad selections but nothing warm. That night at dinner there was no buffet, we were given a menu with a very limited selection. We sat there for over an hour before being served. When we asked what the problem was we were told they were short staffed.

While this was frustrating, the main problem was the elevators. They had two elevators. One was boarded up. The first few days the secound elevator would periodically break down sending us up seven floors of stairs. On the morning of our fourth day there the elevator went out completely and we were told it would be fixed later that day or maybe the next day.

That was it for us, we checked out and went to the Fiesta Americana for the last three days of our vacation were we had a very good experiance.
