we stayed at the Melia 6/22-6/28. LOVED the resort. The service was wonderful, met so many fun people. Had e-mailed Arturo ahead of time for an upgrade to an ocean front room. Our room was ready and waiting upon our arrival. Room was very nice and comfortable, very cold air and a great shower!. Loved the smell of the linens, so fresh. The food was really good, the fresh fruit and smoothies were great for breakfast. Ate at Cafe Parisio one night , very good, ate at the La Iguiana Grill 2 nights, such a beautiful view and good. We enjoyed the chicken quesidallas and nachos from the Iguana for lunch to take by the beach, It was very quiet by the building we were in and watching the cruise ships come in in the mornings and go out at night during a beautiful sunset were awesome. We rented a car to tour the island for the day, so fun. The different coastlines are amazing. What the people are doing to restore the Island and welcome people to their island is incredibly comendable. As we flew off after a GREAT week- so much we did I did not write about- everybody on our plane said WE WILL SEE YOU IN 364 DAYS!!!!

My stay at Melia Cozumel from June 25 to June 29.
I am not hard to please. I do not want any special services But I do expect to
be given what I pay for. This was my first visit to Melia Cozumel.
A beautiful place except for the brown water that stretches the whole length of the melia property.
beautiful blue water at the adjoing property south of the pier(snorkel here) and about a 100 yards out from the melia.
Jet skis will cost $55 u.s.d. for a half hour-parasail for $55 u.s.d. for 15 min.
Food is average at best. it is pretty bland.
service starts well then fades rapidily especially if you don't join the melia club.
The bar tenders are pretty good the drinks they make are good. slide them a buck or two and service gets real fast. Oscar was the best at the restaurant bar on the beach.
If you don't know spanish learn to say a couple of things. NO and I MEAN IT.
The Melia club reps are the most annoying part of the whole trip.
They will not leave you alone. it is not worth the $70 dollars in melia bucks
for the 90 minutes of talk just to join thier club.
They will give you the we have no business because of the hurricane line but it is just
a trick to get you to join thier club. the place looked full to me.
I booked a room for 3 people 2 beds recieved 1 bed and a cot. With No apology - nothing
air conditiioer quit was fixed in a few hours, room felt like a sauna with no apology - nothing
3 mornings in a row no water at all, was fixed after a time with no apology -nothing
Hotel people tend to understand less english if you have an issue.
Manager is nowhere to be found or he hides real well.
My advice really do some research on some other hotels it looked like some really nice
places in town.
Cozumel as an Island is really banged up after the hurricane.
the east side of the Island is really devestated.alot of debris on beaches.the water is beautiful lots of rough water and a few restaurants but thats it.Cocconuts was a good
place to eat this sits high on a cliff overlooking the ocean. you can't miss it.
Downtown is o.k. just typically what you would expect
Time share people are a pain.
Xcaret park on the mainland don't waste your money.
do go to the xel-ha park.
book any extra activities now such as swim with dolphins these will be sold out.
alot of the hotes buy up the time slots.
feel free to e-mail me with any ?

My husband and I just got back from taking our honeymoon at the Melia. We stayed a whole week and never ran out of things to do. It was so beautiful! We had a room on the top floor of the tower, and our view was nothing less than spectacular. The water was every shade of blue you could imagine, and the sunsets were amazing. The room was always clean when we came back from our days out, and we always had hot water in our shower.
There are a lot of activities to do when you stay at the Melia. My husband and I took waverunners out on the ocean, went parasailing, snorkeled (which you have to walk about 5 minutes up the beach to do, but I don't see anything wrong with a walk along a beach!), and we even rented a car to drive around the island. We saw some Mayan ruins at El Cedral and San Gervasio. They were very cool. We also went downtown to do some shopping. I enjoy shopping, so that was fun for me. It was only about 10 minutes from the resort.
The food is different, but good. They have two restaurants that require you make reservations earlier that day for dinner, and I would definitely recommend trying those. Otherwise, the buffet restaurant is just fine. There's even a grill during the day that serves more American type food if you're missing it (which my husband and I had a cheeseburger on our last day).
If you like to drink (which is what my husband and I really enjoyed), they have a bar open pretty much at all hours of the day. We would wake up around 9 or 10, and the bar in the adult pool would already be in full swing. We tried one of each frozen drink on their list. There is a bar in the buffet dining room, and a really good bar in the lobby that is open late with a list of martinis a mile long. The bartenders are nice and they make really good drinks.
We had our laundry done while we were there, and the prices were very reasonable. Our clothes came back pressed and on hangers.
All in all, I loved the Melia. I will be returning in the future. We didn't spend much time on the other side where the kid's activities were, but you could always hear them. So I'm sure I would even bring kids in the future. Great place for the money!
P.S. The dates on my pictures are wrong from when we replaced the batteries in the camera!

This was my fifth time to Cozumel and first time at the Melia and loved it. It was my friends first visit to Coz and the Melia and loved it. We all would recommend to stay at this hotel.

Food: Great tasting food, plentiful breakfast, great grill with waiter service, nachos were awesome, we loved the Cafe Parisio, very romantic dining and great service. We could have ate there every night. Need reservation to get dinner, so need to book early in the morning at the fron desk. Also the grill turns into a reservation only outdoor dining restauarant at night (The Iguana) serves mainly steaks. We also enjoyed sitting outdoors by the beach front. Highly recommend trying both. The buffet is also a great choice, more plentiful at night. We had a great time eating all our meals and have no complaints.

Drinks: If you love bloody marys, have Willy make it at the lobby bar, delicious. We enjoyed sitting around the lobby bar nightly. Nice selection of martini's, I tried them all and picked my favorites. The pool bar was great and they made the best fruity drinks. Overall all the drinks are good. If you want them stronger all you have to do is ask. It is all-inclusive so you can drink what ever you want. If your a beer drinker your choices are Dos XX and Sol. There is store down the road that sold some Budweiser.

Entertainment: Everynight they put on a show which is nice since there really is not much else to do at night so it was nice to drop into a show. The entertainers are very enthusiastic to try to keep everyone happy. Casino night was alot of fun. Name That Tune was alot of fun for adults and children.

Room: We stayed in room 333. It was considered a garden veiw, but we actually had a beach veiw. I think most rooms had somewhat of a beach veiw. We thought we were going to upgrade to a beach veiw but never really felt like it afterwards.

Staff: Everyone is so freindly at the hotel. All the staff work hard and are very quiet and humble people. I strongly recommend taking lots of dollar bills, like $100-$200 if you like to tip. I would give lots of dollar tips for everything. Its greatly appreciated but not expected.

Hotel: The hotel is great. There are only a few hotels in Cozumel that I have been at and I have to say this is definitely one of the top hotels. Clean and fresh.

Beach: It was only a short walk to the area next door to swim and snorkel. I recommend taking your own snorkel gear ( mask, snorkel, fins ) so you dont have to be worried about turning it back in within the 2 hour limit or you will be charged $8.00. The beach in front of the hotel was kinda murky and I never went swimming in it, some days it looked bettter than other days.

All the reveiws I read before I went were right on target. I pretty much ignored the bad reveiws. You will have a great time if you stay here. We stayed a week and the time flew by. We ventured out into the town of Cozumel and drove around the island. If you rent a car be sure and get some advice about how to drive and not to drive. There are some rules about directions you need to know. If you get a chance visit CoCo Nuts on the other side of the island. It truly is a neat kind of out door one of kind bar/restaurant.

Have fun and enjoy your vacation.............................................

Traveled to the Melia in Cozumel with a large extended family group for a wedding. We had a wonderful experience! The resort is beautiful, clean, and just the right size. We stayed in the Tower in a Jr. Suite. All of the employees were more than friendly, and service was always courteous and prompt. Enjoyed both the adult pool (and swim up bar) as well as the activities pool. Great frozen drinks were just the ticket for a day in the sun! Food was good, although we did travel off the resort for dinner twice, just to see the sights. Our party consisted of 20+ people, ranging in age from 10 months to 60 years old, and everyone had a good time; there was a mix of activities to please everyone.

Other reviews are correct when they mention the murky water in front of the Melia -- it apparently gets trapped by the pier, but hats off to the Melia staff -- they worked tirelessly day and night to remove the seaweed, and I don't think this detracted from our experience at all.

Staff did a wonderful job for the wedding. My only complaint would be that the reservations-only restaurant we had reserved for the wedding dinner did not seat our entire party together -- we were at two separate tables on opposite sides of the room. I think they could have done a better job of accommodating everyone at one long table, considering we were celebrating a wedding. Other than that, the experience was wonderful and I would definetly recommend the Melia!
