We stayed at the Melia from 01/12 for 5 nights. I had read the reviews about the beach seaweed problem and have to agree...But, that was the only negative thing I can say.

The staff was VERY friendly...and talented too! Volleyball every day at noon on the beach. Ping pong tables by the pool.

Kids loved it. Alot to do for them; met ALOT of kids their age and made many friends which kept them pretty busy. My 9 year old loved to check out the Chess game at the pool activities center. He played everyday with someone at the pool. He even beat me once.

Highly recommend the nightly FREE shows they have. We went to 3 of them. I think they are every night. The BEST one we saw was a show with authentic Mexican dances & costumes. Most of the people in the show were also employees at the Hotel. They were VERY talented. The other show we liked was the Decades of Music, from 1920's to 1990. Right before the show they had a special Kids Disco for 1/2 hour. The kids got up on stage and danced while playing a game.

I would say the food is an 8 or 9 on a scale of 1-10 (only comparing other MEXICO all-inclusives) Had fresh Mexican Eggs almost every morning. Plenty of food all day long. There was a buffet open from early in the morning until maybe 9ish. The latest we ate was 8:00, but there were still people coming in when we were done. Very attentive and friendly staff everywhere.

Small resort, never lines or too many people. We are going back!

Enjoy!

Just remembered 1 more slightly negative experience....Our air conditioner would not shut off...It ran all night no matter what temp we set it to. You either had to turn it off or on. We had some breezy nights so we opened the window instead of turning on the air conditioner. This didnt bother me to bad, since everything else was so pleasant..I did not want to ruin the positive vibes since I was on Vacation.!

I WOULD recommend this hotel!

During our stay which was way too short (1/06-1/11/05), my husband and I totally enjoyed every aspect of the Melia Cozumel Hotel. Situated a 5 minute taxi drive away from downtown, it was the perfect location. From the time we were welcomed at the door until the minute we left the staff members were warm and hospitable, making us feel like family. Everyone is super friendly and certain staff members providing various activities during the day even dance in the shows at night. Our first day there, we went snorkeling with two staff members (Norky and Manuel), and what a surprise to see them both dancing their butts off in the show that night! Talk about talent ~ a different show every night, comparable to Vegas!! Take advantage of the horseback ride on the beach, the cost is minimal ($20) and hopefully you'll get to meet Wilbur, the Mexican Cowboy who conducted our tour. He was great! We also took a catamaran (I recommend the Fury) from the pier next door. It's a beautiful 1/2 day snorkeling trip and you stop for a cookout on a private beach. Cafe Paraiso at the hotel (by reservation) is a must, I fell in love w/the staff and would go back to see just them. It was my birthday and they sang, had cake, etc. Alex their pianist is a prodigy! You'll meet Jose, Cornelio, Jose and Ezequiel, the nicest guys with the biggest smiles in the world. I wish we knew more Spanish, they like when you try and taught us quite a bit. It was so fun...definitely going back and I'll never forget how beautiful everything was. Great food, great staff, clean, friendly, can't beat this place.

The melia offered a lot of stuff..mainly alcohol. the bartenders were rude. (except for augustine) and grunted when asked to do their job. unfortunatelly when drunk people ask for drinks they get even more frustrated when listening to the bar tender grunt. the bar tenders add more alcohol to the drinks if u go up asking for over 10 shots, in order to get u drunk and passed out sooner.

the food: hit or miss. the iguana grill was good for dinner but during the day the chef was very rude and grunted and gave evil glares when i asked for a hamgurger and nachos. the rest of the staff, other than some of the bartenders and the evil chef were great. the waiter named exekial from the paraiso cafe was wonderful!

the beach: great place to tan. odd location of a pool beside the high rise building (didnt get sun for more than 10 minutes a day) the water was full of seaweed, but the beach is great for getting some sun...the next beach has better water and a peir to stop the seaweed from reaching that beach.

local attractions: senor frogs was fun. deffinately go drunk because the drinks are overpriced there. dancing was fun and the people are awesome. The mexican strip club was gross (paradise men's club)...unattractive women and dirty bar. try black and white men's club.

overall: the people we met were fantastic and we had an awesome time in cozumel! viva mexico!

We just returned from a 10 day stay at the Sol Melia Golf and Beach Resort in Cozumel , Mexico, ( Dec. 17th 2004-Dec 27th 2004). Overall I would rate the resort an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. For the cost I'd give it a 9. There were 9 of us, we had 4 Junior Suites which were spacious. The Beach is nice despite the seaweed which washes up after storms. The service is great and the cleanliness of the entire place is incredible. They are always washing sweeping etc. The food was good for an all inclusive. The ala carte restaurant , Cafe Paraiso was very good for dinner. If you are a golfer which I am , the location to Cozumel Country Club and the cost to play were superb. I'd recommend this resort and would definitely return again some day.
