Staff were ALL very attentive and accomodating. Rooms were clean and service was wonderful. Food was plentiful and of good value. The beach was cleaned every morning and always looked pristine. We played golf every day and the course at Cozumel Country Club was exacting and in good condition. Would we do it again, you bet.

My daughter and I stayed at the Melia for five days in the beginning of March. We had a wonderful time. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. We especially liked the "Activities Desk" staff. They were a lot of fun! The rooms were large and clean. Air conditioner worked fine. We had no problems with wet floors from condensation. Beds were comfortable. Bottled water is replenished daily in your room. We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our balcony. The beach was cleaned daily of debris and was very nice. A lot of fun activities throughout the day and night. Both pools and pool areas were clean and well kept. Food was not fantastic, but acceptable. Even picky eaters can find something. While it was somewhat inconvenient to trek down to the lobby at 7am to make reservations for either of the two nicer restaurants, it was worth it. Nightly shows were not on the "professional " level, but were certainly enjoyable. Drinks were OK as well. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again on future visits.

We just spent a long weekend at the Melia Cozumel resort and had a fantastic time. The food was excellent, especially at the Cafe Paraiso.
It is well worth it to trek to the lobby at 7:00 am to make the reservation. (I know reviewers have complained about having to make a reservation, but this is much better than the first-come first-serve or the two ticket per week policies we have encountered at other resorts in the Cancun/Cozumel area.) The staff was excellent, always ready to help you and they did a great job learning and remembering our names and favorites! I enjoyed snorkeling at the Sol Cabanas del Caribe-- thought it was a treat to be able to walk to this excellent snorkeling spot. We tipped our maid a few dollars and left a note asking for more water bottles to be left in our room, and we received approximately 12-15 water bottles in our room each day. I think the resort staff just leave two water bottles in the room in an effort to conserve resources because when you ask for more, you receive PLENTY of water! We have stayed at Iberostar in the past (in 2000), and although we enjoyed the Iberostar, I think the Melia resort is nicer. I liked feeling that you were always on the beach instead of back in the jungle, the ocean view from the rooms was fantastic, and eating breakfast right on the beach was so much nicer than in the jungle at Iberostar. I think the buffet food was comparable in the two resorts, and I enjoyed the nicer restaurant at the Melia more. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who wants to relax on the beach in Cozumel. This trip was incredibly relaxing!

After reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant about booking at the Melia Cozumel, but decided to go ahead and see for myself.

My wife and I had a four night stay beginning 3/9/04.

We had a wonderful time and found the hotel to be delightful! The staff was extremely courteous and friendly and made the stay very enjoyable.

The property is well maintained and offered all the comforts we desired. Since the property is at the far north on the west coast, the atmosphere was relaxed and far away from the cruise ship crowds.

There were no elevators in our unit (Garden) which raises concerns if accessibility is an issue for the visitor. The room was comfortable, although the bed was very firm. It was delightful leaving the sliding doors to the balcony open at night and listening to the waves and feeling the soft night breezes. The evening shows were amature, but none-the-less fun and enjoyable.

The beach and grounds were very good, although the best snorkeling is further south. There was some "seaweed", but the grounds keepers keep pretty much on top of it, and it is the ocean after all! Besides snorkeling there were Sunfish sailboats, wind sails and other water equipment to play with, and a multitude of lounge chairs, hammocks and the like.

It is nice that there is both a kids/family pool as well as a seperate adult pool with swimup bar.

The drinks were very good and not watered down.

The food at the buffets was adequate and varied. True to the typical buffet, the quality was not tops, but it definitely was acceptable.

The by-reservation Iguana restaurant food was excellent although the menu was somewhat limited.

We can recommend renting a scooter or car and exploring the islannd and its fascinating and beautiful parks and beaches.

We look forward to the day we can return and continue our Cozumel adventure!

My husband and I planned this vacation six months in advance. We had read several reviews which were not all positive. We made up our minds that we were going to go anyway. because we felt each to his own. We had reservations from Dec. 6 thru Dec. 13th. We arrived on Saturday, Dec. 6 and left on Monday Dec. 8. I want to have something positive to say about the Melia, so here it is. The staff were GREAT, the rooms were clean. That's it! I can't say anything more positive than that.
The food was ALWAYS cold, and horrible tasting. On the second day, I thought ok, I'll have a box of cereal, that should be safe. Yeah right, the cereal was STALE. I realize the chef tries to cater to the American palate, but honestly, give it up. Cook what you know! The stairwell always had a pungent smell. The outside floors were mopped with oil or something slick and shiny ( don't go barefooted). You always had to ask for extra bottled water. Two bottles of water for 24 hrs for even one person isn't adequate let alone two people. The drinks were very weak and we always tipped them at least two to three dollars, go figure. The Jaquzzi was worthless, it wasn't operating. No wonder being the turn on valves were rusted. I don't remember the name of the restaurant that took reservations only, but what's that all about. Your on vacation for God's sake, as far as I'm concerned, I made the reservations six months prior. I know I have very little nice things to say about this resort, but that's what the reviews are for. I just don't want anyone else getting ripped off. You would think a five star would at least have great food, at least good. This is a two star hotel at the most. We will never go back!
