I just returned from a week in paradise (10/30-11/6)! My family (my parents for their 30th anniversary, sister and my husband all went) and we all had a fabulous time! The hotel was absolutely beautiful! The weather was perfect!
My parents were a little disappointed in getting 2 double beds but we were both upgraded to King rooms the next day (and they brought us a very comfortable cot for my sister). For some reason the King Rooms were much less musty although I was armed with the Febreze and air freshener!
Don't forget to bring the bug spray!
The staff there is amazing and they are so thankful to be tipped and the little towel animals left in your room are worth you leaving a few dollars a day! They work hard - they always cleaned our rooms and turned them down at night!
Maybe it was the time that we went but there were no crowds at all so we always sat where we wanted to by the pool and there was always something going on if you wanted to participate! The drinks were plentiful and good (loved the Grand Cozumel frozen drink!) and the service on the beach and by the pool was fantastic!
The only bad thing I have to say is that my favorite meal was the one we had in San Miguel at Pepe's Grill (if you go - the Shrimp jovial and bananas flambe were to die for).
My family loved the breakfast buffet but even that I thought was just ok. Lunch is not exciting but I was happy with the tortilla chips and fresh guacamole everyday but the flies at lunch are plentiful!
We went to Los Olivos and it was just ok, the steak at he Sonoroa Grill was ok but was not impressed by anything but the service! The pizza (La Piazza) was just ok although some reviewers raved...the buffet always has something on it to satisfy you. There really is nothing to do at night but we made it fun by playing pool at La Mision or sitting in the Lobby Bar talking! The sun all day makes you want to go to bed early anyway!
We used Dive Palancar for snorkeling, banana boating, jet skiing and parasailing and were very happy with the service and the price (only the jet skiis were pricey but you can put 2 people on one and split the cost!) See Juan at Dive Palancar - he was great!
Because I love food so much while being on vacation I am not sure that I would do an all-inclusive trip again - BUT I would recommend the Occidental Grand Cozumel to anyone who wants a 5 star vacation!!!
