Ok, if this is the only review you read about the Occidental Grand, rest assured that everything I tell you is the truth. Do not listen to the other reviews regarding the food at this hotel, I put on 10 lbs.
while I was away-need I say more. The food at the resturants were fantastic! If you like fresh salmon, stuffed chicken, beef tenderloin, amazing tiramisu(looked too good to eat), this is the resort for you.
They also have very fresh fruit, salads, breads, pizza etc. Do not go here if you expect hamburgers and fries for the week-its only gourmet and only the best. The staff are wonderful, leaving fresh flowers in the rooms, making beautiful designs out of the towels, making sure your drink was always full and being genuinely helpful with questions regarding touring the island. If you go to cozumel, make sure you dive-I gurantee it will be the highlight of the trip and the staff at dive palancar are very nice and answer any questions you may have.
Diving really is a "whole new world", you won't regret it. The grounds are beautiful-beach and pool areas are clean and extremely relaxing-sunsets are very romantic. One word of advise would be to rent a car(maybe book before you go with a major car rental company, as it was somewhat expensive with the hotel). We paid 70.00 USA for the day, but gas was really cheap (3.00 USA and we did the whole island). If you rent a car, do the coastal road and go see the mayan ruins at Parque Punta Sur. The hotel room was great, but we did notice a smell(mentioned in the reviews we read before we went). However, the staff were very accomidating when we requested a king size bed and asked to switch rooms. We were put on a short waiting list and oursecond night was spent in another beautiful room with a pretty good view of the ocean. I would have to agree that this was a suburb hotel with first class service, definitely a 10/10.
