We moved to the Grand from the Allegro because of a booking problem. We had been at the Allegro twice, so we were a bit reluctant to move. We liked the Grand so much we're going back in March for 10 days. The dining was excellent. The staff friendly and courteous. The young men who waited on us in the morning for breakfast remembered our names.
They were very friendly. Olivos and Sonora restaurants were the best.
The restaurant at the pool was beyond our expectations. The head cook cut up fresh Mahi Mahi for us then cooked it with white wine and lemon.
He made us feel like we were the most important guests he had. That was just for lunch! The flan was terrific. Our room was on the bottom floor. The rooms were elegant. The lady who cleaned our room made the cleverest critters out of towels and wash cloths. Like one day she made a turtle, one day a pair of swans. She would make hearts on the bed from flower petals. We thought the bathroom was so cool. Huge walk in tile showers, safes in the closet, a big bath tub. The architecture was like a Spanish Mission. The dive shop was second to none. Gustavo, one of the instructors was the best. He could teach anyone to dive. He was patient and knew how to make the novice feel right at home. If you want to learn to dive, definitely request Gustavo. We were able to do a number of dives with him. I have been throughout Mexico but, Cozumel and the Grand are my favorites. It is not the U.S. so remember, not everyone speaks fluent english. Also, it can be humid during certain months. The culture is different from ours in America so remember, people there are actually polite and courteous. Also, they tend to respect the elderly and they generally aren't foul mouthed. However, you might run into that if you look hard enough.
