It was supposed to be a four hour tour, but no one objected when the guide led us back early. The trail was rock-hard stone. It's a good thing we didn't fall off our ATMs (was holding on for dear life), because they didn't provide helmets, an odd policy on a trail that hazardous. But this is Mexico..
I was riding behind the guide, who went around the bend in front of me. As I came around the corner at about 20-30 MPH, I soon found that the guide stopped because another tour of jeeps was coming the other way on the narrow trail and had stopped there. To avoid plowing into the guide or the jeeps, I applied the brakes hard, but found they didn't seem to work at that speed. I steered off the trail and crashed into the jungle, flipping the ATV. I wasn't seriously hurt, fortunately.
They gave us sandwiches that made us sick for a few days in the middle of the tour. Also, the hard ride took it's toll on our bones and muscles for the rest of the vacation, and I'm a relatively healthy and strong guy. BEWARE OF WILD TOURS!!!
