This place was absolutely amazing. The very best hosts, service, surroundings, price, location. If you're going to Cozumel, you must stay here.
This was a great little place to stay! The Villas were a hide-a-way in the middle of the downtown area. It was close to shopping, dining, and the 'city' life! If you are looking for a beach resort, this might not be the place for you. However, the hotel is partnered with a neighboring hotel, so you can enjoy a beautiful pool and the beachfront there! The hosts were wonderful, and I'll definitely be back!
my husband & i stayed here 4/28-5/1...not enough time, but it was a getaway...it was great...being in town is all walking distance, unless you go to the big supermarket, then taxi back with your stuff...taxi's undercharged us on all trips!...they do like tips, contrary to whats been said about tipping...everyone @ las anclas, eyal & pedro, especially, were most gracious and accomodating with referrals and all local info...sundays are really laid back...no cruise ship crowds, but a lot of restaurants are closed...we loved la veranda for sunday nite...if you like steaks, seafood, continental cuisine, we liked pepe's on the ocean, upstairs, beautiful ocean view of sunset...[air conditioned, a neccesity for us on our 1st nite...really hot...we acclimated nicely though...at 8am we met with pedro and he gave us rides to the dive shop, blue angel...we used the pool [gratis] and enjoyed breakfast & lunch @ their restaurant, outside, upstairs...try fresh fruit in am and the beef burritos were awesome for lunch...ask for ice for your soft drinks..we also snorkeled with them on their boat $35 US ea...great trips...not a lot of really colorful fish, but a lot... then a taxi back to las anclas...get a street map...gift shops are more interesting and cheaper around the side streets around the plaza ,we didn't tour the island, not enough time....do not be tempted to bring back cuban cigars to the US, they confiscated me..oops...most all the vanilla they sell is imitation, even though they say not...hence the cheap prices.. U.S.$ is taken just about everywhere..room was very comfy & spotless, great a/c, hot water, nice beds & pillows...tv, channel 92 cnn, dsc channel, bbc....no clock...place in back to hang wetsuits...you can wake up to a rooster who sounds like he has a sore throat...just a couple of crows...cute...beautiful garden w/table, chairs to relax, check out all the little lizards...very safe...las anclas is definitely a home away from home...we will be coming back to stay with our new friends...enjoy your trip...hasta luego...maureen
There is a reason why this special place is NO 1... When I booked our Cozumel diving holiday, I was very reluctant to stay in town and not on the beach, and only booked because of the NO 1 status on Tripadvisor and also not being able to resist finding out if this place is truly as special as people make it to be! Situated in a small street, one block away from the main boardwalk street (with all the tourist hangouts), it did not look like anything. However, it was like going through the cupboard into a whole new world! It is the combination of wonderful location (in the buzz of things), exquisite taste (when it comes to the interior decoration), small details (like a sweet treat waiting for you one your bed now and again), the very entertaining owners (and please don't expect them to host parties for you!!!) full of wise words and good recommendations, and finally the price, that makes this the number one place to stay in Cozumel. Even our diving planning was made easy for us. Pedro's daughter, Alex, runs the diving shop at their other hotel, Caribe Blu, and he kindly offered to drop us every morning for our diving (as a favour, not a service!). We did some excellent diving and Alex also advised us to dive the cenote, Angelita in Tulum, which turned out to be one of the most amazing dives we have ever done. We could use the swimming pool facilities at Caribe Blu, so in the end we had the best of both worlds, the fun of the town and the coolness off the ocean! Thank you to Pedro, Eyal and all the staff at the diveshop for giving us great memories! We hope to see you again!
When we were looking for hotel accommodations for Cozumel, we looked thorough all the reviews on Tripadvisor. We definitely did not want to stay at an AI, and we were planning a few days of scuba diving during our stay. During our stay we spent time here and at Casa Viento.
Having read the previous reviews of Las Anclas, we contacted the owners about a reservation via email and received very prompt replies. An initial 100 dollar deposit was made via Paypal and we were confirmed for our stay.
As many other reviewers have mentioned, the owners Pedro and Eyal deserve unqualified praise for their hospitality, knowledge of the area, and dedication that you enjoy your stay. I think that I was asked at least twice a day if everything was going well or if I needed anything. My wife and I asked them for numerous recommendations for dining, where to rent a car, and even planning out a day trip to the mainland to visit Tulum and Coba. They give great advise and are a pleasure to socailze with during the day.
The accommodations are spacious and comfortable. Each of the 7 units is a two story loft with a kitchen and living area downstairs (~300 sq ft) and the bedroom and bathroom upstairs (200 sq ft). A steep spiral staircase connects the two areas. There is user-controlled air conditioning, a TV with 90 or so cable stations, microwave, and refrigerator. Each day a maid cleans and tidies EVERYTHING. For instance, instead of just replacing the towels in the bathroom, you will find that all of your shampoo and soap bottles are lined up neatly, your toothpaste and toothbrush are lined up in a row, and your toiletries that you carelessly left on the sink counter are all neatly organized. The same goes with any groceries that you leave in the kitchenette area or dishes in the sink. The showers have plenty of hot water and insane water pressure. The beds are full size, pillow-top mattresses and very comfortable. Each day they are made and you can look forward to a nice chocolate treat.
Given that there is an ashtray in each room, I assume smoking is allowed, however, we could not detect that anyone had previously smoked in the room (#4). For the most part the walls are concrete and there is tile floor, so perhaps the smell is simply not absorbed by anything in the room.
The location of the hotel is a perfect balance of proximity and tranquility. You are a 5 minute walk from dozens of restaurants that range from a 5 dollar meal to a find dining experience. The main square is a 3 minute walk North and the street that the Hotel is on (Avenue 5) leads directly into the square and is the first block off of the waterfront. At night, the location is mostly free of sounds associated with tourism. In fact, you are more likely to hear noises from the local neighbors.
Two huge logistic benefits of Las Anclas are their affiliation with Hotel Caribe Blu and the Blue Angel Dive shop, which, together, are located roughly 1.5 miles south of the Las Anclas, right on the ocean. Pedro and Eyal drive their Suburban there every morning at 8am as a shuttle, so if you are diving, you can catch the 8:30 fast boats without effort, and save yourself the 5 dollar cab fee. Furthermore, if you are looking for a relaxing day in the sun, you are welcome to use the deck chairs, hammocks ( I highly recommend snagging the ones in the sandy/ zen garden area) and pool located at Carbibe Blu, and they even provide free beach towels. We took advantage of this option a few times while we were there, and sometimes even after we finished diving mid afternoon. There is also a nice outdoor restaurant incase you work up an appetite after diving or just reading a book in the sun.
Overall, we couldn’t have been happier with our stay here. Las Anclas definitely deserves to be the #1 rated hotel and we will definitely be staying here on future visits.
