“Beautiful Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

I had the privilege of making The Baldwin's Guest House my refuge for 4 weeks. The property is a little piece of paradise on a tropical island. The accommodations are spacious, private, comfortable and impeccably clean. The lush, flowering, tropical vegetation provides shade, beauty, and tranquility. Dale and Kathy are extremely attentive to their guests needs and provide privacy as well as local history, information, and humor. My husband and I lacked for nothing. Dale and Kathy welcomed us warmly and we left them as family. The location is ideal. Taxi service arrives within minutes of being called since the central station is just blocks away. We choose to mostly walk, however, to all our destinations. A safe, comfortable walk to the plaza, waterfront, Mega, local restaurants, and parks provided us with a true feel of Cozumel and enabled us to experience more of the local day to day life and genuinely nice residents. There are several spaces on the property that provide relaxing and quiet places to catch the breeze, sun, or shade - either in private or with others. The beautiful pool is perfect for cooling off while the hammocks beckon you to take a siesta or evening rest while enjoying the fresh breezes. The best feature, though, are the thoughtful owners who are an absolute pleasure to just sit around and have delightful conversations with (if you can catch them). They try their best to make sure you are enveloped in your tranquil state while discreetly taking care to see that all of your needs are met. My only disappointment….it took six years to discover this oasis that we have walked by all these years. I can not imagine staying anywhere else on the island.

I am not much of one for writing reviews so don’t expect a lot here. However I feel compelled to share comments about our recent stay at Baldwin’s B and B in Cozumel, MX. It was our first dive trip to Cozumel and some friends of ours suggested this place. Willing to try almost anything once we took a chance. GLAD WE DID!!!

We were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome that made us immediately feel like we were visiting old friends. They showed us around the property and helped us settle in for the week.

If you are a diver everything you need for daily gear clearing is on premise. This place is within walking distance of the waterfront yet far enough away you can escape the cruise ship mania and enjoy a relaxing evening. Breakfast is part of the stay and wow what a production it was. We were asked everyday what we wanted but the house selection was so good we didn't want anything else. The website pictures are spot on! Book early because they have a loyal following and we are now one of them.

They make you feel so at home you want to do the dishes - :o)

Room Tip: Ask for the best, you won't be disappointed.

It was with much anticipation that my wife and I returned to the Baldwin's Guest House for our 6th time this past February and Dale and Kathy did not disappoint. Somehow they even made sure the other guests were nice and friendly people as well as we toured the island with one couple and dined several times with the other 3 couples at the guest house. We originally decided to stay at Baldwin's because we thought it would be a good chance to meet some interesting people and indeed that is why we keep coming back. The guests consisted of 4 couples... 2 American and 2 Canadian and we all enjoyed each other's company.

Thanks to one brave couple we met at the Baldwin's, my wife was introduced to her newest obsession: "Getting the dead skin on her feet sucked off by fish from Iran at Mr. Sanchos beach club." Okay, Okay, this sounds kind of gross but I am told that the experience and the results are fantastic. Now my wife wants to start her own personal aquarium of feet sucking fish - I am not making this up!

Anyway, I digress. The breakfasts were as usual very elegant and delicious. A breakfast at a BnB should be hearty and also incorporate the local produce and cooking customs of the region and the Baldwin's deliver on both counts.

Thanks again.

This was our 4th stay with Dale and Cathy, we look forward to it every year. The hospitality and friendship they provide is unmatched anywhere else we have traveled. the property is a true oasis in an active neighborhood. The morning gathering and breakfast will hold you until midafternoon, and Cathy will coordinate the time to match with your schedule. The beds are not your typical hard Mexican beds, they brought them in from Houston and are very comfortable. Coffee ready when you wake up, great rinse and storage area for your dive gear, the roof top hammocks, the inviting pool, and the outdoor bar/kitchen gathering area are just some of the reasons you should stay here.

We apologize for the delay in writing this recommendation for Kathy & Dale Gardiner's Baldwin's. Their willingness to make your vacation days as safe, comfortable, fun & well informed as possible makes them both great hosts. Our stay took in the end of the Winter Olympics, & we were able to watch the Canadian Men's Gold Hockey...we were able to update Dale, a fellow Canadian, that the game involves a puck, not a basketball! Kidding aside...breakfasts were fantastic; one could actually cook in their outside kitchen if you wanted; all the rooms were different & the King room comfortable; when we asked for a luggage stand Kathy was able to provide it & re-washed my anklet socks for me that I'd hand washed. Thanks Mom & Dad! It was enjoyable to visit with the numerous returnees over the great breakfasts & later in the evening, sharing stories from our origins & more helpful local knowledge. As previously mentioned the King Room looks out to the aviary & social evening scene & the room would cool off fastest by leaving the door open to get a cross breeze, but also has a ceiling fan and AC. We fully enjoyed the beautiful garden & the proximity of several very good restaurants. Renting a car ends up being the most sensible way to see the rest of the island as there's not a bus, but very willing to please taxi drivers, which Kathy could advise on what the cost should be. Right down to the local & valuable map & use of their flippers from the separate outside dive equipment area, this couple has it all covered. Hope to return one day!

We traveled to Cozumel a few weeks ago and had a most enjoyable stay! From the moment we drove up and saw the gate and flowers cascading over the wall we knew we would would love it! This is a casual and relaxed place to stay - the grounds are very well maintained with many flowering plants and well tended-to landscaping, the pool is clean and inviting, and there are plenty of places to sit and just enjoy being outdoors. There are plenty of chairs and tables, and there are hammocks above the casita under a palapa roof where there always seemed to be breeze. So nice! Kathy's breakfasts are a great way to start the day.... we always left so full we usually skipped lunch! Although we loved everything she prepared, I think our favorites were Dale's fresh squeezed orange juice, the plate of fresh fruit and yogurt, and the breakfast tacos with the salsa/pico. Coffee was ready early every morning as well. Our rooms were in the main house - we had queen and king rooms. Each room was spotless, as was each bathroom. We had plenty of hot water, and the a/c worked well. The beds were very comfortable. Plenty of hangers in each room. We thought the entire area was quiet with very little outside noise. We felt safe - I walked alone two of the mornings we were there and enjoyed seeing the neighborhood. Kathy suggested a few places for supper each night - we walked to each after dark and had no issues. I might add that there are several local places to eat that are very good and inexpensive - just ask! Kathy also gave us a map and had many suggestions on which beaches to take my college age kids to as well as excellent directions. The fridge was stocked with water and whatever else you might want which made it easy to load up an ice chest to take with. Dale had set up the rental car for us and we had no problems with the rental or return. In fact, driving in Cozumel was a breeze! Kathy and Dale showed great hospitality. We hope to be back soon!

Dale and Cathy could not be better hosts! From the exquisite breakfasts which leave one more than satisfied until dinner, to the quiet, easy-going atmosphere of the guest house, pool area and the quiet roof-top hammocks, this is by far the best, most relaxing and enjoyable stay. We were there for a week with family and friends and pretty much had the house to ourselves, there were 11 of us! The grounds were wonderfully landscaped and the rooms, kitchen and outdoor kitchen were spotless. Dale and Cathy were always there for us, enjoyed time with us and were wonderful tour guides...with maps and easy directions for whatever sights we wanted to see. Our family and friends go here almost yearly. This was our first trip here. We were there to mind 2, 3 yr olds while their parents went diving. Dale and Cathy were also having fun with the kiddos as were we. I do hope we get invited by our kids to join them next year! Thank you, both, for a trip that we are still talking and raving about!

Room Tip: No tips....any one of the rooms are great!
