Four of us, two couples in our 30's, stayed at the Cozumel Palace for 3 nights and El Cid for 4 nights.
Check in was fairly quick. The timeshare person did talk to us about setting up a tour of the property and discounts when we got there but there was no real pressure then or after the initial conversation.
Our room was on the 3rd (top) floor in the part of the hotel by the beach. There are no elevators. The frig and kitchenette were nice to have. The rooms were fairly small and dark, especially the bathroom. There was not a stand or place to put your suitcase so you have to use the floor or couch. The a/c was inconsistent and the rooms not as clean as they should be, with cob webs and dust.
We booked a pretty good deal on worryfreevacations (hotel only) was $322 for nights including all taxes and transfers.
Tuesday when we arrived, there was a managers cocktail party by the pool with complimentary appetizers and margaritas.
There were activities during the day including water volleyball, horseshoe tournaments, bingo, hairbrading, happy hour, etc.
We also used the tennis courts several times. They have equipment at the front desk but beware. . .if you lose a ball it is $8 (each) and if you do not return a towel it is $40 and if you lose your safe key it is $150.
The snorkeling in front of the hotel is good. There is a sunken plane and extremely large anchor that snorkelers can even see and plenty of fish, as well.
The beach area was nice. The salt water pool had fish and star fish in it, which was pretty cool. The hot tub was way too hot to get in.
The cruise ship in front of the hotel were only there until 4 or 5 pm everyday and the noise from the pier was not an issue.
This hotel is not all that close to town. We wished we would have rented a car because it would have been cheaper than the $6 each way cab fare every day/night for shopping, eating, etc.
We went into town every night for dinner and drinks while staying the 4 nights at El Cid. There are many good, inexpensive restaurants that we went to including El Moro, Guidos, Coconuts, La Choza and Palmeras. Palmeras
was our least favorite and just OK, the others very good.
We also swam with the dolphins. We had done it before in the Bahamas and Dolphin Discovery was better. . . it is a larger operation and run very well. . . there were more activities with the dolphins and it was surprisingly cheaper.
