My in-laws, husband, 3 year old daughter and I stayed at La Ceiba February 27, 2007 thru March 10, 2007. This trip will mark the many many annual trips to the island we have come to love. We had an absolute wonderful time at the resort and to be honest had a very hard time saying goodbye to the wonderful staff, who became very dear friends to all of us.
The suite we had consisted of two separate bedrooms and another separate room that consisted of a living room, kitchen and another bathroom. The maids did a wonderful job cleaning the rooms and each night we were delighted to find a new and beautiful towel arrangement on our bed. The maids were delightful to see every day and always had a smile to greet us.
We spent all but two days of our vacation at the La Ceiba beach (one day we took the ferry over to Playa and the other day on the other side of the island). We enjoyed all of the waiters and staff on the beach. The waiters were very attentive, even when we didn't purchase drink after drink. Jose and Virginia always had a smile on their face and I noticed they treated everyone with the same attentive service, whether the traveler had an all day wrist band to drink and eat or just occasionally ordered an item. Cain was a great activity director and always kept things going and interesting. Every day provides a new activity and ending with the ritual game of bingo. Gabby was a great assistant to Cain and gave you the opportunity to have your hair braided or buy a pretty handmade bracelet but with no pressure of the peddling as the public beaches have. To top it off, Ricardo in the dive shop was fantastic. Great hands on instructor and very personable. All in all, I can not say enough good things about the beach and dive staff. Snorkeling right out front of the resort is honestly some of the best on the island. We have snorkled many many different places on the island.
I read a few of the posts regarding the noise from the work on the pier outside the resort. To be honest, we never heard the noise or just never paid attention. The noise has nothing to do with the resort regardless and its just the island trying to rebuild from what they've lost in the storm. Can't say I blame them from working non stop in order to give the tourists a nice pier. Several cruise ships do dock on the pier outside of the resort. This never bothered us and to be honest we found it fun and fascinating watching the ships and passengers.
Salvadore and the lobby staff were wonderful in greeting us every morning and evening. I actually had to call Salvadore just a few days ago to ask him about sending a package to the resort for the friends we made. Salvadore instantly remembered me and my family and quickly made me miss all of the La Ceiba staff.
A quick trip to town every night let us socialize with the downtown locals and enjoy the fantastic restaurants. Would recommned renting a vehicle for a longer period stay. Cozumel is easy to get around and driver friendly.
I would recommend La Ceiba to any travelers. In fact, from all the years staying on the island this is the first resort where we actually stayed put most of the time and never left resort except for at night to go to town to eat dinner. It was hard leaving the resort and friends we made there. Thank you La Ceiba staff!!!
