We visited La Ceiba again April 22 to 29 and were saddened that our old friend, Salvador Sanchez Meza, the general manager, had been promoted to a new position within the ECVC organization. He will be missed by many. The good news is that the La Ceiba did not miss a beat in providing excellent service, food, and the very best of Mexican hospitality. This is a great credit to the standards that Salvador demanded and the quality and depth of the La Ceiba staff. Give credit to the efforts of the management (Roberto, Food and Beverage Manager, Crisanto, La Chopa Manager, Jorge, Assistant La Chopa Manager, and Esther, Rooms Manager). We met the new general manager, Andres, and have great confidence that he will maintain the tradition of excellence at La Ceiba. Despite being very busy with his new job, Andres found the time to welcome us and many other guests and we look forward to seeing him again.
The weather was as good as it gets in Cozumel on our visit, 75 degrees and no humidity -- we just opened our balcony door and enjoyed the sea breeze every day and night.
We ate many meals at La Chopa (the open air restaurant on the resort property) and as usual the meals were wonderful with great service. Our favorite meal is breakfast as we look out over the beautiful Caribbean and enjoy the fresh fruit and other great foods. We have visited many places and have not found a wait staff that can compare to the professional and friendly service we receive at La Chopa. Many thanks to Alberto, Fausto, Luis, Armando, Benecio, Pedro, Williams, Eli, Wilberth, Miguel, Vicky, and Juan. Paulino and Leo provided their usual friendly service at the bar, as did Guadalupe and Miguel.
The beach BBQ with live music was great as was our romantic dinner for two (celebrating my wife's birthday). Armando, assisted by Benecio and Wilberth, gave us a wonderful dinner and experience on the pier. La Chopa is blessed with a great executive chef, Javier Pachecco, and we have discovered that La Chopa is one of the finest restaurants in Cozumel. More people should take advantage of it when they stay at La Ceiba.
Once again, we treated ourselves to a massage at the Cocay Spa and were not disappointed. This is the epitome of total relaxation and we had a hard time staying awake during dinner because we were so relaxed.
We had our usual friendly and informative chat with the concierge, Marco, and found out some neat things to do on the island as well as all of the local news. Our room and maid service were excellent -- typical of Esther Zapata's standards. We also had time to talk to Cain, the activities director, and catch up on island events.
Our favorite moment at La Ceiba is getting off the free shuttle from the airport (15 minutes away) and seeing Natalio or Arcadio, the doormen, and stepping into the lobby of our home away from home and checking in with Babiena and the other staff at the front desk. Needless to say what we dislike the most is checking out.
