This is an update to our last review for our September 2010 visit to La Ceiba.
When we joined ECVC several years ago, we were thinking of taking our grandchildren to this wonderful resort. The week of March 13 to 19 was spring break for the kids and they and their parents joined us at the La Ceiba. We've always enjoyed our stays at La Ceiba and Cozumel and this was our best visit ever because we were able to share it with our kids and grandkids. Our five year old grandson took one look from our balcony and declared "this is paradise." Since we had booked the kids on an all inclusive package, they ate most of their meals at La Chopa. The food and the service were great as usual and the view of the sea provides a great atmosphere. Cozumel is a beautiful spot, but it is the great Mexican hospitality that really makes it special. The La Chopa managers, Jorge and Chrisanto run a first class operation. The staff (Paulino and Leo at the bar and the waiters, Alberto, Fausto, Williams, Pedro, Eli, Luis, Virginia, and all of the others) were their ususal friendly and professional selves. Our grandkids especially loved the personal attention they received from Alberto and Fausto (including some informal Spanish lessons). La Chopa is one of the best restaurants in Cozumel ( we've visited Cozumel 20 times) and I'm surprised that guests at the La Ceiba don't frequent it more often -- it really is a gem.
Our rooms were beautiful and spotless, up to Esther Zapata's usual standards and of course the view from the 12th floor was spectacular.
There were plenty of activities for our five year old grandson and our eight year old granddaughter thanks to the activities director, Cain. The kids enjoyed the Spanish classes, ceramic painting, and pool, especially when Cain supplied water baloons. La Ceiba is very family friendly as well as a great place for adults and singles and we always see plenty of all of these types of visitors on our trips there.
As a vacation, this trip was one of our best. Not only did our kids and grandkids have a great time, but they had the opportunity to learn more about the Mayan and Mexican cultures. Our thanks to the general manager, Salvador Sanchez Meza, for providing such a wonderful vacation home away from home.
