“Great Location, Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Casa Mexicana Cozumel is a great downtown location. It is close to Punta Langosta Mall, grocery stores, restaurants,Town Square and ferry to Playa. I have stayed here many times over the years and it is always an amazing stay thanks to the friendly staff, clean rooms with comfortable beds, in-room refrigerators, delicious daily breakfast, and location. This hotel has only a wading pool but across the street you can swim with the locals. We scuba with Aqua Safari right next door. Go online to cozumel-casamexicanahotel.com for unbelievable low rates for a first class hotel. If you want a beach with unlimited drinks this is not the place for you, but if you want a great downtown location in a comfortable room with access to Cozumel culture stay here.

Just got back from a 3 night stay at this place and the only complaint we have about it has nothing to do with the hotel, just the guests. We ended up in one of the 2nd floor ajoining rooms and the couple next door ended up waking up the whole hotel (twice!!) when they arrived home from the bar. It happens - and I'm sure I've done the same in the past. Regardless, you can hear quite a bit through the doors so if you're trying to get a long sleep in you won't get it unless you're quite the sound sleeper.
The breakfast was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly. My wife does not speak any spanish and she found it difficult to communicate effectively with one of the staff, but again - no big deal.
The room was clean and in good condition. we found that the in-bathroom hairdryer (and exhaust fan) didn't work, but we didn't care so we didn't bother to bug them about it.
Overall the location is great if you're looking for a central spot to explore the island and I'd recommend this place to anyone who was looking for a hotel.

Just got back from a 3 day stay at the Casa Mexicana in Cozumel and loved it. It's in the perfect location, 5-6 minute walk to your left is the Punta Langosta mall with all the shopping, another block over from the mall is the Mega store to get snacks/groceries. A 5 minute walk to the right of the hotel is the pier where you can catch the ferry to Playa del Carmen. Right across from the hotel you can get a cab to take you anywhere on the island. Check-in was quick, staff was pleasant and nice, not overly friendly, but you get checked-in without issue. The included breakfast is great, it's served from 7am-11am and has all kinds of fruit selections, cereals, juices, coffee, there was at least one chicken selection along with an omelette station, danishes, patries. Needless to say plenty of food. The open lounge area near check-in has several cozy couches, and chairs, as well as a small bar area. The balcony in the front of the hotel overlooks the street below and has a great view of the water and cruise ships docked. They have lounge chairs and you can just sit, have a drink, and enjoy the view. The free wireless internet worked well...I didn't have any issues. I was actually able to use it from my room (Room 318) without any problems. The room was very clean, had plenty of space, very quiet, balcony with a angled view of the water, and had plastic deck chairs and a table out there as well. The a/c worked perfect, kept the room cool and I could barely even hear it running. The mattress and pillows were some of the softest I've slept on in all my travels...no complaints.

All and all, a great hotel at a great price. I'll definitely stay here again the next time in Cozumel.

Not sure if we got lucky with our rate (USD 62/n) but to include a hot bfst with omelet station and fresh carrot juice, wifi (reliable but does annoyingly log you out a lot) and friendly staff that makes towel sculptures is a great deal! Maybe it's because there's no beach? We were there to scuba at aqua safari (decent dive shop see my other review) which was just 2 buildings down the road. Staff spoke decent English. Maid service good. Great hours (7-11am) for breakfast.
This is the only 5 star I gave on the island (am picky).

I'm writing this review while I am still at Casa Mexican. The wife and I have been staying here for almost a week in the top floor ocean view room. The room and view is beautiful, and get to watch the cruise ships roll in and out everyday. The breakfast buffet is excellent, and has many different selections to satisfy all tastes. We decided to splurge a bit beyond what we would normally do, and booked an ocean view room, which is well worth the extra fee if you use it.
Now the negative: Although the building has been reconditioned there is definitely a flaw in the design of the acoustics. The breakfast buffet staff starts setting up and crashing dishes and silverware before 6:30am and you hear every noise if your staying in any of the deluxe ocean view rooms. This is because all of the inside doors that face the center of the hotel are paper thin (non-insulated) doors, and have a 3/4" gap under the door. Even if you place a wrapped towel at the bottom of the door the noise persists. If you look at the dishes you will notice many of them are chipped or cracked, I don't believe it is the guests doing the damage but the staff, who don't seem the worry about being hard and loud while scraping the dishes or setting a table. Maybe they should change the type of dishes used here or train their staff to be quieter. The open side of the hotel, in the buffet area, acts like a big noise magnet and accentuates any noise. We thought the barking dog we were hearing all of the time was coming from a room near us in the hotel, when in fact it was coming from the backyard of a neighboring property 5 stories down. Just gives you the idea of how the sound travels in this place (great if it was a theater - but lousy for a hotel). If that weren't enough, if there happens to be a loud group of drinking divers who decide to party in the lobby bar area late at night, you will hear every word also (not only through the door but also through the glass patio door on the ocean side). Don't get me wrong, I believe people have the right to enjoy themselves and don't think the hotel staff should scold their guests, I just wish guests would remember that there are other people staying here and have paid their hard earned money for a nice peaceful evening. We ended up having to adjust our vacation dinner times, and sleep times, to work around those noisy guests. Until they do something about the noise issue acoustics (insulated doors, sound absorbing banners or blankets or wall coverings) we will definitely choose a quieter place next trip.
I know I sound a bit extreme, but read some of the other reviews of this place and you will see I am not alone in the complaints of the noise and dishes. Lastly the pool might as well be called a gazing pool, at it really isn't very functional at all, and we never even used it. There is a very small bar next to the pool, which you can get a drink at, but may have to wait or bring your own booze and mix. The hotel does have a person that will come and make the drink for you at the bar, but kind of a joke if you ask me.
All in all we are happy with the view, and buffet, but a bit pricey to have to deal with the noise issues. It is very convenient to the local shops and restaurants, so keep that in mind.

Room Tip: If you wqnt view definitely choose an upper ocean view room. If you want quiet, stay in the back or...

This hotel is definitely a place for a tourist who would love to venture into downtown Cozumel and absorb the culture in it's totality. I have stayed here more than once and loved it all the time.

It is right in the heart of cozumel, where the action is... the food scene, the shopping, the shows and its the part that will die out the last in cozumel...

The Hotel is a great stop but my dining has always been outside the hotel except for the breakfast which is something you would love... I have always indulged a little more than I could stomach.

There are no negatives as far as I see... it's sure value for money.

I have no idea why this hotel is a 3* so take advantage of the price, it is certainly worth it! We were so pleasantly surprised by the pillow top beds, the great service, the marble counter tops, the space in the rooms, the fact that there was good free wifi and a safe in the room....not to mention the unbelievable breakfast in the morning...what a steal. We only had to take a cab from the airport but the hotel is located on the main shopping strip (the place to go). There was 24 hour security which was not required but we were welcomed back every evening after walking back from dinner downtown. They even wash the sidewalk infront of the place, it is definately clean. We stayed in a city view room and although the view is nothing to speak about the balcony was large and it is always nice to open the door and be able to hang your towels out on the deck. We got upgraded to an ocean view for part of our stay and the rooms were actually a little smaller but still nice...but do not be scared to book the city view. They were working on the buffett area when we there, it looks like a great space so breakfast was in the meeting room and we were not aware the first morning that they make to order eggs anyway, omletes, french toast, you name it. This place was absolutely awesome particularily for the money.

Room Tip: Don't be worried about the inexpensive city view rooms, they are actually larger and have the sa...
