The hotel itself has stunning architecture, open to the air in the breakfast room and lobby area, though that proved less than ideal when high winds hit for a couple of days. The service was excellent, the breakfasts tasty and varied, the internet access very convenient, the rooms large, clean, and comfortable (except for the rather hard beds), and the location was near many good restaurants and a large mall parking lot (we had a rental car). The one major problem was that there was street construction going on right outside our room, starting at 7:00 a.m., plus a couple of local dogs that barked at all hours. But we liked trying different restaurants every night, so it was a great location for that. I'd recommend La Veranda, the French Quarter, La Cocay, Le Bistrot, Le Chef, and Especias among the nearby restaurants.

Stayed at Casa Mexicana while diving with Aqua Safari. Location was fantastic, a car was not necessary. Rooms were large and clean. Ours faced the inner courtyard and was very quiet.

Breakfast buffet was amazingly good. Jamie always made sure we had fresh hot coffee. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Casa Mexicana is a hotel located on the main avenue ( melgar) of San Miguel. You can walk to the main square and to great shops and restaurants. The pool is small, but no complains as I went for the diving anyway, but it was a nice to have. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would definately stay there again. A+

Casa Mexicana combined excellent prepartion and good management decisions to allows us to enjoy all of our vacation. Their free, air conditioned internet room with four computers allowed us to keep track of the storms progress and stay connected.

I will post pictures of their hurricane boarding process to show how well protected we felt. The hotel sustained minimal damage in Wilma so felt safe if we had to ride it out. They also had a large back up generator that would become very important since even a little power makes a big difference.

Everyone has already said it all about the rooms, breakfast, service and architecture so I will focus on how well management prepared for the hurricane. The front desk kept all my dive gear and extra stuff for me while I was off to Holbox for a two day side trip. He smiled when he saw us return on Saturday night, he thought we had bailed. I put together a hurricane emergency kit too (see photo).
