My wife and I just returned from a four night stay at the Park Royal in Cozumel and we had a blast. We have been vacationing in Cozumel since the late 70s and staying at this property since the mid 90s. The last time we were here was eight years ago and this place is like new! They have added two pools with large jacuzzis and swim-up bars at both. If you are going to hang out here, do yourself a favor and bring a CD( which they will gladly play for you) or you might get stuck listening to the worst disco of the 80's. They are in a great location on the hotel's private beach They put in a very nice sports bar and a new restaurant for the buffet service. There are two "reservations only" restaurants, one Mexican and one Italian. The beer on tap is Dos XX and the hotel, unlike some other AI properties, has brand name scotches, bourbons and vodkas. Not to mention tequilas. All of the staff we encountered were helpful and polite and all speak English. The main pool is still as awesome as ever with a new cascading waterfall. Most impressive of all is the giant lobby area. Just being in it is enough to make the trip worthwhile.

After reading several reviews for several months, We were a bit suprised. We spent 7 days at Park Royal with four couples, Two meeting us from another State, after meeting at the Riveria Mayan for the 1st time last april. Beautiful grounds, rooms, service, Pools were outstanding! and even entertainment was good. Small beach, but never had to struggle to get a spot to lay out and usually hung out at the pools because they were exceptional infinity pools. If you want a big beach then you must go to Cancun or the Riveria Maya. Cozumel is know for the sparkeling water , beautiful coral and scuba and snorkling is at it's best. I am amazed at how people write Bad reviews. These people at these resorts are very hard working . Yes there is quite a language barrier, but you are in Mexico,so try to learn some Spanish before you go. The food was exceptional, Five course meals on very lovely pottery and beautiful table settings. Italian & Carribean was our favorite. No problem getting reservations either. The buffet had such a selection on it that you had to be the pickiest eater to not find anything you liked. Seafood was excellent, Bread and awsome butter!!! Sounds crazy but I,m serious!! Nachos and kick butt salsa out by the pools were great too. Drinks... they had it all. But Corona on tap was the only beer , My husband doesn;t like Corona, but thought it was fine on tap, or her resorted to the Dirty Monkey drink!Time share people approched us about the fifth day we were there, but told them we were;t interested and we were not asked again. We haved traveled so many places and by far this was #1 on our list , and we will return.

my friend and i has stayed at the park royal in early may. It was excellent! The staff was very helpful every chance they got. The grounds where beautiful. I honestly believe this is one of the nicest resorts on the island. The food in the buffet was okay, there was usually something you could find to suit your needs. (this is very common in 3rd world countrys to have "interesting" food served. ) breakfast had a wide veriety including an omlett bar. We had tried the mexican resturaunt and found the apitisers a bit paqular, but the main dish of fajitas where awsome. we spent just about every other night eating at the italian resturaunt. this seemed to be where you could recognise almost everything on the menu. The sanck bar did leave alot to be desired, just hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza and nachos. We did decide to go out shopping and cruising the island everyday, so we tipped our concierge (humberto) to make our dinner reservations for us everyday, which he did with no problem. also, the young guys who work at the hotel where giving us wrist bands to drink at the bars for free everynight.
The only real dissapointment i had was with the unlimited domestic and imported drinks. What they really mean is : a plastic cup filled with corona poured from a 40 oz, they had no other beer options. the imported is only liquor. I do recomend trying the myan riviera drink. I would definatly recomend this hotel to anyone, in fact im going back in december. I did go around and check out some of the othe hotels on the island and could not beleive that i was considering staying with them. alot of the pictures and descriptions where way off.

  • Liked — It was beautiful and the employees made me feel like a queen everyday!
  • Disliked — the food options at the snack bar after lunch shut down

After reading reviews that ranged from "don't go" to "excellent" I wasn't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was beautiful and immaculate (not really what I would consider five-star by US standards but close). The sea side pools with swim-up bars were paradise. I can see it could get really crowded during peak months but it was very quiet while we were there. The service was very friendly and polite but not as helpful if you are not wearing a red wrist band signifying you have bought into the "club." If you are not part of the "system," do a little research on-line before you get to the island on what good deals are available for what you are interested in doing.
The lobby supposedly had wireless internet. We saw others with their laptops but we were unable to connect ourselves and my husband does computer consulting on the side! No loss. Who wants to spend time on the internet when the sun and surf are calling.
The food at the Veranda was not as good as I expected but not bad. Breakfast was the best meal of the day there. The snack bars were OK. The Italian restaurant was by far the best on-site food of the trip. If you want Mexican, skip the on-site restaurant and go downtown.
My goal was to sit at the pool and read and did that to my heart's content and enjoyed every minute. My husband, however, can't sit still and went on multiple scuba diving trips (excellent!!) and later joined me at the pool. We rented a car one day (more on this later!) and cruised the perimeter of the island. Awesome! Make sure to stop at Coconuts for lunch but if you have children (or are the least bit modest) beware the photo albums. One day is plenty to rent a car. Use taxi's to get to town. And here is my biggest warning: Do not talk to anyone at the airport about renting a car. Either set it up before arriving or skip it and take a taxi to the hotel. We were unaware of the club membership pushing and competition between clubs. We got sucked into agreeing to visit a competing hotel on the mainland in exchange for 5 days car rental for the price of one. Then when we arrived at Park Royal they offered us a competing "deal" to stay on-site. Looking back it was a great distraction from the relaxing vacation we came to enjoy and not a "deal" at all. We ended up spending the day with the car, taking it back to the airport (paying the day's rental ourselves), getting a taxi back to the hotel, and getting back to our relaxing vacation avoiding all the sales pitches for the remainder of the the trip.
All-in-all it was a great hotel and a great vacation and now knowing what to avoid we are planning to return to Park Royal in the late summer or fall with our teen and college age children to do more scuba diving/ pool sitting.

  • Liked — The beautiful sea-side pool.
  • Disliked — The food at the Veranda.

Totally enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds and facilities were kept extremely clean.

I found the food to be very good with an adequate variety in the Buffet. Did not try the specialty restaurants.

I would have liked more (any) healthy food choices at the snack bars. All that was available was burgers, hot dogs, pizza, and nachos.

There were always enough staff at the front desk to handle peak periods of check in/out activity.

The onsite entertainment was fun and changed enough from night to night to keep it interesting.
