We stayed at the Park Royal from Feb. 9th - 16th and overall it was a very relaxing family vacation. The resort was very nice and always 'exceptionally' clean. We booked 2 rooms and travelled with our 3 kids (12,10 & 8) and my parents. We were in the newest building on the 7th floor and had the two end rooms (ocean/street views). Great for viewing the cruise ships when they are in port. The view was amazing. It was a bit different than what we have stayed in before but it was a nice different. Normally, we are in a smaller resort with no more than 3 floors. From the views, I would not want to stay on any floor lower than 5 or you may end up having a view of trees and gardens as the resort is not directly on the beach. You have to walk under the road to get to the beach (private). It is very small but nice to get into for some snorkeling. Sorry, snorkeling here is nill. Also, no walking along the beach. All you really see are a few different kinds of fish and some very large starfish. The reef is further out than where you are allowed (or want) to go. Boat traffic does not allow you to get out far but the guy at the beach activities hut takes you out to show you a planecrash. The beach area and all pools(3) are very nice and were always clean. It did rain the first 2 days we were there but it did not ruin our vacation. Yes, they do not have umbrellas but we didn't care - we were in Mexico and it was below 0 at home :-). The staff were all very friendly and always available to lend a hand. When we arrived the air was not working in one of our rooms and the front desk sent a repairman out right away. He had it fixed in about 20 minutes. It worked fine after that. No complaints with water pressure or temperature - in fact, with 5 of us in one room we never ran out of hot water. :-) We tried the Mexican Restaurant one night and it was pretty good but kids are not allowed and we all wanted to eat together, so we ate at the buffet the rest of the time. The salad bar and fruit are very good - the food to me was just ok - but it was very hard to find something for my kids to eat - usually one thing per night avaliable that they would like. It would be nice if they had more kid friendly items. I think they use alot of leftovers from previous meals to make dinner meals. I am not a picky eater but found myslf wanting some yummy mexican dishes. Sorry guys - you won't find them here. We did eat in town a few times and had excellent meals. Try Espeicies at 5th and 3rd area (near the surf shop) Excellent!!! Also, if you love to snorkel as we do - go to Corona Beach (snorkeling is free) and try the lunch when you get done - It is to die for! As earlier, I said that there is no walking along the beach but if you head out to the road there is a sidewalk all the way into town. It is about a 10 minute taxi ride so it would be a very long walk. If you get tired just crab a cab - always one around. My girls and I even took a horse and buggy ride back to the hotel one evening - they had so much fun looking all around. The kids club is very fun - all 3 of mine enjoyed the fun and games. They are always doing something to keep them busy. We did the Jungle 'Dune Buggy' Tour one day and had a blast - guides even made us a home made chicken taco lunch with rice and guac. This was our 2nd time going on this same tour and it is worth every penny - If you go, say hi to Omar for us!! There is no bottled water at this resort but a small shop right outside the driveway sells it if you want it - as well as other items if you need anything. Overall, this was a very clean place to lay your head and enjoy a swim in the pool - very kid friendly with the exception of food choices. We love to travel to Mexico so will probably not return to the Park Royal but only because of the location - no beach. We find ourselves always comparing everything to our favorite place "El Dorado Seaside Suites" so will probably return there. Hope this review will be helpful to you and happy travels!!!
