My wife and I just retuned from the Park Royal. We would definately rate this a three star property. As stated in the other reviews the grounds are very beautiful. We enjoyed both the ocean beach club area and the areas by the pools. The remodel is very nice. The staff does an excellent job keeping the resort clean in a very unclean environment. We were on the fifth floor in the first building. The resort only has a few rooms with king beds but we moved the doubles together and it worked just fine. The bed quality is pretty good as well. We did experience the brown water coming out of the hot tap. I'm sure this is due to the aging boiler system. It's best to drink bottled water only and since it's not provided in your room we found the best place to fill up was at the bikini bar. They have a water cooler there 24/7.

I would give this property three stars based on a few problems. It is a timeshare property and the hounds get anoying. They are stationed at the top of the stairs by the front desk, on the bottom of the buildings by the elevators and by the towel check out as you pass under the tunnel to the beach. They are not really rude but you will get asked repeately throughout your stay if you have any "activities" planned. The sales people rotate throughout the week so just because you tell one of them you're not interested doesn't mean they will all leave you alone.

The other reason for three stars is the food quality. It's not very good. While you won't go hungry you won't be amazed. The breakfast is good but the lunch and dinner buffets are poor. The speciality restaurants are prety poor as well and the reservation system is a joke. If you have kids under 12 years old stay away from this place. They will make you eat at the buffet only and they get old very fast. The selection is very limited and repetitive. While the desserts look good, they taste terrible for the most part. It's almost like they had no flavor and not enough sugar. We witnessed the staff repeatedly questioning one couple because they didn't belive their daughter was 12. For two days the lunch buffet had great guacamole. For some reason on days 3-7 they changed it and it was mostly sour cream. That was strange.

The bartenders work very hard and will make your drinks to your liking. Find Manuel and ask for his "special" - it's amazing.

All that being said we only paid $ 1,218.00 for the two of us for the week. At that price we got what we expected and thought it was worth the money. A few months ago we stayed at the Cozumel Palace. While we thought it was a five star property and the food was outstanding, it did cost an extra $ 1,100.00.

  • Liked — The cheap price we paid.
  • Disliked — The poor food quality.

We booked 8 days at PR on Book It for $99 pp/pn. We thought it was a really good deal. When we arrived, yes, the property was very nice with beautiful landscaping. The pools were alittle dirty. We asked for a King Size, ocean view room. We got 2 double beds with a view of partial ocean, mostly cruise ships and construction cranes. The room was clean when we checked in but was only cleaned 3 add. times because the maid didn't come around until after 4pm when we were back in the room trying to get ready for dinner. That's another story... in order to eat dinner at one of the 3 restaurants, you have to wait in a LONG line between the hours of 12-3 and maybe you'll get a reservation before 10pm. The food/service was not good in any of the restaurants. The buffet was much better, still not much variety. It was always hard to find a good cup of coffee, too. We are early risers so we were able to get a good chair at the pool everyday. The drinks were good and all the bartenders were very nice. Overall, the stay was okay. You'll need to go downtown to get decent food (Pepe's Grill was the BEST!) and service. We've been to several different all inclusive resorts and we were very disappointed with the PR. We felt like they had our money up front and bascially could care less if we were there or not. But, it was $99 a night, I guess you do get what you pay for, huh??? I can say we will NOT be going back nor will we recommend the PR.

I read every single review for this resort dating to back to right after it was remodeled and I find some of the complaints outrageous.
-1st of all a number of people complain about the "hot" tube not being hot. Your in Cozumel where its 85+ degrees and sunny everyday. If the "hot" tube was hot and you were sipping on your margarita people would be passing out left and right. Its actually very refreshing. I don't know why people would want to sit in hot water when its already 85 degrees (kinda weird).
-2nd the beach is small and rocky at the entrance but this is consistent with the entire island. Cozumel isn't know for its spectacular beaches. My friends and I rented a car and drove around the entire island and made plenty of voyages up and down the coast and there are very very very few beaches where there are huge rock build-ups or large rocks right at water level.
-You do have to go under an small bridge to get to the beach which takes a whopping 1 minute walk (boo hoo!!)
-All of the walk-ways are cobble stone which i enjoyed. I couldnt imagine anyone other than 90 year old women with a bad hip or a baby learning to walk having problems.
-If you book a hotel on a beach in mexico during peak springbreak season thats $99 a night, expect springbreakers (thats just common sense).
-I never had a problem getting a chair on or by the beach. And this is coming from a 24 year old who was nursing a hangover most mornings and didnt make it to the beach sometimes until 11am. The chair may not be in the most prestine spot, but every area has a good view, good sun, good people around. Again I dont understannd why people on vacation are so uptight....Relax

I guarentee you cannot find a better deal in cozumel for $99 a night than the Park Royal. If you are extremely picky and complain about the minor stuff, this probably isn't your place. If you are going to relax and have a good time while being on a budget, book this now. One of the better vacations Ive been on.

P.S. The diving is great!!

Ok I know I am going to be bashed for this review, but read the entire review before you decide.

I just want to say that we went to the PR on spring break week. March 8-16th. We called bookit and the PR directly to MAKE SURE that the PR was not a spring break property. Both assured us that they had a zero tolerance policy on spring breakers, and that it was not a spring break property. Great! So my husband and I booked for 4 nights at $99/pp per night and away we went.
For $99/pp per night we weren't expecting the Ritz or Four Seasons, and we just decided to go and have a good time. Upon checking in, we noticed that the property was very nice, well groomed and very very clean. There was always someone around cleaning or sweeping up. Very nice touch. We did notice though that the property was completely sold out and there was not a chair or spot to sit ANYWHERE.
Our room was in the first tower, we were told ocean front, but from our room we got a glimpse of the ocean and mostly of the road. NO PROBLEM, who is in the room anyway? The room is very clean, but no extra touches. No clock, no radio, a basic tv, no soaps or shampoos. No fridge or any special touches. No extra blanket or pillow. This bothered me. Plus the hallways, mind you very nice, were all marble, so if someone were talking in the hallway it echoed and you could hear it in your room.
We suited up and went to grab some sun. But alas, there were no chairs. NONE. We got to sit by the ocean bar on the pier. We got a drink. A half watered down pina colada and then tried to get something with malibu. NOPE, then something with jonnie walker, NOPE, the list goes on and on of the liquors they don't have.
We made a reservation at the Italian restaurant, and had to wait in line for over an hour for them to tell us that the earliest they could get us in was 10pm. We took it. Why we ate there is beyond me. The service was excellent. Attentive and efficient. However the food was awful. Sorry!
Strolling back to our room to turn in for the night we noticed about 20 rooms had their balconies full with spring breakers completely drunk and screaming. We thought "uh oh" and decided to make the best of it. Needless to say, the noise got progressively worse as the evening went on. They were screaming up and down the halls, and hanging off the balconies until about 3:30am. We called the front desk about 10 times and all they said to us was "sorry there is nothing we can do about it"....NICE.
When we got up the second morning, we were greeted with puke in the hallway, and a note under our door stating that the beach would be closed until 12pm due to a photo shoot and they hope we understand. So we decided to eat breakfast (this was 6am) and ALL of the beach chairs at the pool had towels and stuff on them. They were all spoken for. I couldn't believe it.
We promptly turned around repacked and headed to the Presidente where we had a WONDERFUL vacation. Expensive none the less, but you get what you pay for. Upon checking out we told them why, and they said "ok we don't care, just give us your bracelets" THATS IT. Unbelieveable.
Perhaps on a different week this property would have been more tolerable? I could have dealt with it all. But the kids and the drinking and hanging off the balconies was too much. I do have one nice thing to say, the property was very pretty and very clean and the staff seemed very nice and worked very hard.

My boyfriend & I just got back from a 5-night stay at the Park Royal and the whole vacation was amazing! The hotel exceeded my expectations, the weather was great, and the island was beautiful! I've seen others list good and bad aspects, so here I go!

GOOD:
-The grounds/facilities- the hotel is beautiful, everything is new, and it is exceptionally clean. All day long there were staff raking the beach to remove debris and sweeping sand off of the pool decks. Our room was cleaned everyday, we were on the 22-- level too, like another reviewer who said that their room wasn't cleaned at all on that level. The Sports Bar is very modern, it was a cool place to hang out at night. It is true that you have to walk through a short underpass to get to the beach area, but it's very short and the road above is well hidden so it's really not a big deal, you don't even notice that it's there.
-The staff- pretty much everyone who we encountered was friendly & as helpful as possible. Especially the bartenders! In the Sports Bar, we tipped the bartender $2 and he kept coming over to our table to get us new drinks as soon as we were out.
-The snorkeling- we both like to snorkel and you can use their equipment for free for 2 hours. We're not divers or anything, and although there was not a lot of coral, we both saw lots of really cool fish right in front of the resort, it was awesome!
-The drinks- as everyone else has suggested, try a blue cozumel, they're so good!
-The island- we rented a jeep on our last day and wish that we had done it sooner/more than one day. We stopped at Paradise Beach Club and Planancar Beach Club (both are free if you buy some drinks) and they were both really nice b/c it was Sunday so there were no cruise passengers, the views are great and the beaches are sandy so you can go swimming in the ocean there. The other side of the island is also beautiful but watch out for wild cows walking down the road!

AVERAGE:
-The food- we ate mostly at the 3 restaurants for dinner, some of the dishes were very good & some were just average but nothing was bad, nothing made us sick, & we were always full. While I considered the lunches & dinners to be mostly average to good, my boyfriend seemed to think that most of the food was well above average. We agreed that the breakfast buffet was delicious!
-The beach- the sand area is small but it was very clean and soft to walk on, plus they have 3 pools plus a ton of deck space w/lounge chairs that overlook the ocean so unless you want to be on the sand it's not a big deal, you can get a chair that is 5 feet up from the water on a deck.

BAD:
-The rocks in the water- unless you have water shoes or snorkeling fins, you really can't go in the ocean because it is all rocks past the dry sand on the beach. It's fine for snorkeling, but if you want to wade out into the ocean it's not a good spot to do it, go to a beach club (or jump into 1 of the pools!).
-Cruise ships- first, you have to be at least above the 3rd or 4th floor to see the ocean, and if you do have an ocean view room, there are cruise ships blocking about half of the horizon b/c the hotel is close to a port.

OVERALL:
We had a great vacation, the Park Royal was fantastic! They did the best that they can do with the hotel & grounds given it's location, it was new & very clean, & the staff were great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, & would definitely go back. I'm so sad to be home now, and am jealous of anyone who is reading this & getting ready to visit!

  • Disliked — The rocks in the ocean.
