Let me start by saying that it had been 13 years since we were on Cozumel last. We used to go nearly every year and stayed at the Presidente. This year we found an internet special for the Park Royal, so we decided to go. The island has changed a bit, and the cruise ship visitors number far too many for such a small island. One day there were 8 ships visiting. That being said, if you plan any excursions, do so on Sat. or Sun. when there are no ships. Our main goal was to relax, and that we did!

This beautiful hotel just reopened and they did a wonderful job on the whole resort. The tropical lobby welcomes you with the world's tallest palapa built by local Myan's using ancient traditions. It overlooks lush gardens and a wandering pool. The rooms are spacious with marble throughout and a beautiful bathroom with plenty of closet space and a huge shower - though the pressure was not very strong (long, thick hair, so it matters). We had adjoining rooms with our 2 kids, 12 & 18. The biggest dissappointment with the rooms is they both had very firm, uncomfortable double beds - no king available, even in the suites. Since it is so new, I think there are some things that still need correcting. We experienced no hot water on 2 different occasions, and it was usually a bit brown at the sink, but the cold ran clear. We didn't drink from the sink but the water at the bars & restaraunts was totally safe and good.

The new tower opens soon and I'm sure it will be even better. I would like to see it offer more first-class ammenities such as plush, comfortable king beds, bottled water, and minibars in the rooms. The in-room safe was easy to use and very convenient.

We were on the 5th floor with a great view of the lush grounds, pool, and cruise ships, which were pretty at night all lit up. The staff were ALL very friendly, cheerful and helpful. We had the all-inclusive plan which we were thrilled with! The drinks were fabulous and all the bar tenders went out of their way to make them special, even for our kids. Each breakfast and lunch at the buffet was slightly different and offered a great variety of delicious options with plenty of fresh fruits, salads, and fruit juices. I can't say enough about the 3 restaraunts offered for evening - - FABULOUS! Many visitors had families and were not able to use this option, since the age limit is 12 and up. That made them even more special for the 4 of us since they weren't busy. Plan on eating at all 3 at least once - we never used the buffet for evening. Men and boys need long pants and women need a skirt, dress, or long pants, so another reason many couldn't eat there. Be prepared!

There are 3 pools and we used the 2 on the beach. There is also a nice sandy beach area with snorkeling and free equipment rental. We never saw any vagrants or panhandlers - only hotel guests, so we felt quite safe to let the kids roam around the hotel unattended. We rented a jeep to tour the island, but it hadn't changed much. DO NOT RENT SCOOTERS! The taxi to town is $8 US.

We visited Chaukanaub Park and did the $99 Dolphin Discovery, which I highly recommend if you have never done it before. Again, be prepared because the park charges a $16 entrance fee which does not include the dolphins or any snorkeling gear - just a chair. It used to be free. Then there are the "photo ops", etc.

All-in-all we had a great time at Park Royal resort and are already planning a return visit. Please view my photos.

Park Royal just reopened and they did a beautiful job on the whole resort. The rooms are really comfortable, nicely decorated with marble throughout the whole suite. We had adjoining rooms with our three daughters which made it even roomier. The balconies had a great view, we were on the fourth floor, try for fourth or higher floors for best view. I cannot say enough about the staff, very friendly, cheerful and helpful. The entertainment was tastefully done, quite funny on certain nights. From what I saw of the kids club, the staff were excellent in including everyone, and made sure that all the kids were having fun! The restaraunts were excellent, food delicious, good variety, even the buffet restaraunt had a great variety of food choices. Lots of pools throughout resort, the beach area is really nice, with a little alcove for kids of all ages to play in the sand. The pool up by the rooms is very nicely done, even has a waterfall, and the bartender at this pool was very friendly. If you are planning to tour the island, for your own safety, I would definitely suggest a jeep over scooters, lots of pottholes outside town and construction on roads, so two way traffic can get very hectic, especially in the afternoon. You can exchange money right at the front desk, there is a little store right by the resort if you need anything. Jeep rentals right across the street, and if you would like to take a submarine ride, the store is also right across the street. If you want to venture downtown, the cab is only about $8.00. Overall, we had a great time at Park Royal resort, would love to return some day.

i was recently in cozumel and the park royal hotel is being built up very nicely but you may want to be careful about the royal holiday club. overbooking may be a problem My program was to include unlimited stay at the park royal cozumel for only an all inclusive fee. it may be very hard to get any unlimited time at this hotel. likewise if you look at the program you have to pay a fair amount of money for a certain number of points. then there is a yearly maintenance fee which is calculated by the number of points you originally signed up with. there are different room point costs. different time of year costs, for a final kicker you may have to pay an extra fee because the club had a problem with one of its members as recently happened in Cozumel when there were so many problems because of the hurricane. when you sign up they do give you some vouchers for other stays but you have to pay extra for most of those also. So if you can decipher the whole program out you may still want to join. The beach they have is nice but the cruise ships come in right at there beach although it is offset to some extent

We stayed at the Park Royal from Dec. 17-21, 2006. I found a half-price grand re-opening special on a website for $179/night (double occupancy) all-inclusive. We are NOT members of Royal Holiday (the timeshare company that is affiliated with the property). I am 29, my husband is 36 and we were looking for a nice get-away before the crazyness of the holidays hit. The Park Royal exceeded our expectations on all levels. I would certainly recommend it to anyone. Keep in mind we were there when they were at about 30% capacity, which certainly helped.

I'll start by saying that I was a bit apprehensive given the reviews of the property I've read on TripAdvisor. I did a lot of research on where we should go, but when I found the special and saw some pictures of the renovated property, I thought it was worth a shot. I knew there was a good chance we'd be hounded by timeshare sharks, but I figured we would deal with it. To my surprise, NOT ONCE were we approached by anyone with Royal Holiday. In fact, the first day we arrived we were walking the grounds to try to get our bearings, and a nice young woman came up to us and began to show us around (very informally). About halfway through the tour, I noticed her shirt said "Royal Holiday" and I figured out she worked for the timeshare company. However, when she was done, she just wished us a pleasant stay and never asked us if we were interested in more information. My husband and I spent our entire time there waiting to be hounded but it never happened. We were given green wristbands to wear, but almost everyone there was wearing orange bands. We figured out that the orange bands were for Royal Holiday members, and green were for non-members. This made it even more puzzling that we weren't hounded since we were clearly "marked" as potential customers. The only time we were approached by a Royal Holiday saleperson was when we were downtown. He asked where we were staying, and when we replied "Park Royal" he said, "Oh, you must already by club members, then." We said we weren't, and then he said, "Well you were invited to stay by club members, then, right?" When we said no, we'd just booked the hotel he looked at us like we were from another planet... apparently the hotel is still in its soft opening and is catering almost exclusively to club members. As non-club-members, we were in the extreme minority.

The room was beautiful. We were in a king room on the 8th floor so we had an amazing view (see pictures). Everything was extremely clean. The bathroom had a huge shower (fits two nicely...) but no tub (which is fine because I don't take baths in hotels). It also had a separate commode area for privacy. There was a large closet with a safety deposit box, shelving and extra pillows. The TV was flatscreen (but not a plasma or LCD). We got several english speaking stations as well as spanish.

The grounds were very nicely done. There were always people out cleaning walkways, mowing grass, tending to the greenery, etc. It was clear they were taking great care to make the hotel as nice as possible. There are 3 pools (1 by the hotel buildings and 2 out by the beach which are infinity pools), two hydrotherapy pools (basically unheated spas), and the beach. We were impressed by the beach. It's not huge, but it was plenty big for our needs. There were two bars out by the beach plus a snack bar, then another bar/snack bar in at the pool by the hotel buildings. The drinks were great, no complaints there.

The restaurants were very good. I haven't been anywhere else in Mexico so I can't compare how this food stacked up against other resorts, but it was tasty. There were little things, like misspellings on the menu, etc. that were to be expected. We didn't care. The wine was also surprisingly good. We're wine people so we didn't have high hopes, but it wasn't that bad (other than being served too cold, but whatever).

Snokeling was okay. Having never been to Cozumel before the hurricanes, I can't say for sure, but I think there really isn't anyplace that didn't get severely damaged. So, it was good given the state of the coral. We snorkeled right off the beach one day and then did a trip the next, which gave us a good idea of what "good" snorkeling is right now. And it's not that good unfortunately.

There were little things that indicated to me this was a very nice property but not the nicest: no room service, they were a bit weird about ordering more than one thing on the menu at dinner, etc. but these things would not deter me from going there again. We had a great time and really don't have any negative things to say about the place.

Disregard anything you have read about this resort prior to November, 2006!!! They have completely remodeled everything, from the buildings to the grounds, and it is all brand new. All rooms have views of the sea, the higher up the better. All balconies have glass to allow for unobstructed views. Our suite had flat screen TV's. They offer a gym with brand new Nautilus weight machines, free weights, elliptical machines, treadmills & stationary bikes and an attendant to show you how to use them all. There are 3 pools. The main one circles around a palapa bar, the other 2 are on either side of the beach. They are infinity pools where the water pours over the edge, seemingly into the Caribbean sea. They are all large enough to swim laps. Also 2 hydrotherapy pools on the beach. The pool chairs are all made of waterproof continuous fabric and are extremely comfortable. There are 3 restaurants, all of which have tablecloths, beautiful matching dishes, excellent quality silverware. The meals were different every day, and always offered healthy choices and at least 3 entrees. They also offer a Mexican and an Italian restaurant for dinners for people over 12 years of age. The food in all 3 restaurants was 5 star quality. They also have several snack bars where you can get pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs or nachos. They carry name brands on hard alcohol, and the wine isn't bad. For $48 per day the value was incredible.

This resort is better than the Marriott Kauai, where we stayed for Christmas last year in similar accomodations. I am a seeker of the perfect swimming pool, and have finally found it here (the pool by the "cruise bar" on the beach). I don't mind that the rooms have no kitchen facilities because food & drinks in the rooms will only bring in the bugs, and everything is provided to eat and drink in any event.

The staff is wonderful, and there was zero pressure to do any timeshare stuff once we told them we are already owners and had no desire to learn more.
