My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel had beautiful well kept grounds, our rooms were clean and updated furniture. The TV had english cable with CNN, Fox, HBO, etc. which was was a nice surprise. Yes, the lighting in the bathroom is not great for putting on makeup but there is a dresser in the room with all the sunlight you could possibly need. Yes, the beach is small but if you love to snorkel its perfect! We brought our own snorkel gear but no flippers but the hotel let us rent them for $5 per 24hours of use. We rented a car for a day and drove around the island. That was one of the best days there. In a day we drove out to Punta Sur (its a national park where they take the cruise excursion people which your likely to run into; for $10 you have entrace to the park and go up to the top of the lighthouse, see its museum, go snorkeling, and apparently also see crocks and turtles which we opted out of), the Bob Marley bar, and to Cocunuts Restaurant (Amazing food, amazing cost, amazing view - its on a cliff overlooking ocean - and where locals eat). We paid full price for the car rental ($50) because despite numerous offers to get it for a discount price, we refused to sell even 30 minutes of our vacation time. As for the the hotel staff (staff, not timesare salesman), we have absolutly no complaints. The timeshare people are all over the place but if you tell them your not intereted and/or not married, they leave you alone.
Arriving at the airport is pretty tough because we did not pre-pay for shuttle service. I read a cab ride to the hotel was only $7 so i opted against the $16 pre-paid shuttle service. Someone's review said to just walk past all the timeshare shuttle people and go get a taxi, BUT there are no taxis waiting at the airport! We basically had to walk far and leave the airport to find a taxi or figure out something else. I kept asking airport personnel and it seemed like they were all in on it because they all kept directing me to a window with timeshare salesman. So, I listened to the timeshare speech, said no no no, and the FINALLY they showed me where the ticket counter was. That said, if you don't see taxis, the ticket counter is to your right hand side, right as your about to exit the airport. I never saw it, and I was very upset I had to go through so much to find it because no one would just tell me. It was terrible start to the trip, but after that we had a GREAT TIME.
The hotel staff is all extremely friendly as everyone says. If you tip the bartenders, even just a few bucks, they take great care of you. I was amazed at how so many people would spend the entire day at the bar and not tip even once!
And the food was just fine - it wasn't terrible as other people say, but it was also nothing to write home about. I'd describe it as far from the meal you'd receive in a 5 star expensive restaurant (obviously), but also much much better than fast food!
