Security is poor, hotel was under construction. We were woke up every morning by 6:00 a.m. Last night there we were robbed while we slept, they entered through the balacony took all cash and our camera. Hotel took a report but did nothing, would not even assist with calling the police. Be aware, we were told bt locals this happens offten and the hotel is not safe.

We just came back from spending one week at Park Royal. It was absolutely great!! Upon our arrival Edguardo greeted us with a smile and gave us a brief rundown on the hotel. We went with 4 other people who like us were looking for a relaxing, good time. We all thought the rooms were great. Comfy bed, clean linen, and a great hot shower with pressure! What more could you need. This was our first trip to Cozumel. Wonderful people, great scenery and exciting nightlife.Lets not forget the beautiful blue/green water and the weather! Park Royal lived up to our expectations, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good, but we ventured out and ate at different restuarants suggested by locals. The only problem I would mention is how rude some guests were to the staff and how some people just leave their drink cups strewn all over the beach for the staff to pick up. Is it really that hard to put your garbage in the trash? I would highly recommend Park Royal to friends and cant wait to return for another great time.

Well after reading all the reviews I just had to write one and really want to go back NOW! My husband and I and 2 other friends have been going to the Park Royal for the last 4 years and this is the first year we are not.
I must say I agree with all of the people that it is not a 5 star and no where do I see it posted as that so figure a 3 star in Mexico is what it is. We love this hotel because the STAFF are the best, they do remember who you are even without tipping them. Yes, the food is bland after awhile and we always go for 2 weeks and know which nights to stay in and eat at the buffet and the other nights we go into Mescalito Restaurant or walk across the street to Ernest's Fajita Factory they make the best fajitas, cold bottle beer and a great sunset view. Definately take the island tour and stop at every bar especially Bob Marley Bar for a cold cerveza and hammock rest - not the greatest place to use the banos (bathroom) very dirty - I just went behind a bush - sorry had to add that - hee, hee. Playa Bonita is great for body surfing and has good food too and Coconuts on the hill has the best margueritas and awesome banos, but beware they will try to get you very drunk and take pictures, also bring along a t-shirt to hang on the wall.
I could go on forever so to end this you must go to the Park Royal with a relaxed mentality, visit Luis (okee dokee) he makes the best black monkeys and banana daquiries also the young Luis is a cutie and has the nicest smile if you go say hi from the Canadians Barb/Eric/Kevin and Sharon (margueritas no sugar no salt) okee dokee will remember if you tell him that and ask him if he's ever done a belly button shooter - he may not remember but just ask him..... aww I wanna go back. So have a great time and just relax everyone is so nice and ask for rooms on the 6 floor and up they will accommodate you I am sure - but ask NICE!!

We just came back from 4 days at the Park Royal. I was aware of many negative reviews but found the place very acceptable. It is advertised as a two and one half star hotel and rated accordingly. If you expect five star luxury you should not go to the cheapest all inclusive on the island. The pool was nice although cold (february). The beach was very quaint with a bar right there. The food was OK not great at the buffet. I did not have a chance to try the food at the place requiring reservations. The room was very clean and the water pressure was GREAT!! I had heard of a lack of hot water but that was during peak usage times and it was still warm enough.
On the down side, the bars only served rail liquor. I had not even heard of these liquors and they were a little "rot gut" which leads to a hangover for me and my wife. The bar by the beach does not serve any food. You have to go back to the hotel to get something to bring back yourself.
They are renovating one of the buildings but it was very obscured by the foliage. Heck they are renovating half the island. The grounds were well maintained. The atmosphere was nice and the staff very helpful.
All in all if I was looking for a buget vacation a Cozumel I would go back. If I had a little to spend I would stay at the ElCozumeleno. This is a nicer place but you pay for it too.

My husband and I spent the first week of February at the Park Royal and we enjoyed our stay. We found the staff very friendly and helpful at all times: from getting a taxi into town, to getting information on tourist attractions.
I read other reviews on this hotel, and in my opinion, each person will have their own experience.
We always had a clean room with clean towels and sheets. We never got a call from the hotel's time share reps. Nor were we disturbed by housekeeping. We used the hotel room what it was meant for: sleeping and showering. After all, we are on holiday and came to see cozumel not the inside of our hotel room. The food was good, by mid week it did repeat itself. However, snack time at the bikini bar is definetly a must.
I highly recommend renting a jeep and driving around the island. It's an experience of a lifetime, to be able to drive along the coast. We visited each stop along the coast. Senor Iguanas makes the best chicken tacos I had on the trip!!!
We did come into contact with the time share reps; and if your able to sit through a 90 minute blab session on time shares, then go for it, the discounted off island excursions are worth it. You save a lot of money.
I had heard the hotel is shutting down in April for 6 months; rumors are it's being converted into a Sheraton.
It's a great place to stay in a beautiful setting. Close to local shopping and with taxi cabs always ready to take you where you need to go.
