when we arrived at park royal, we were told that we did not have a seaside view and no, they didn't have a king bedroom available, that we were going to have 2 "twin" beds and a "garden view". we were dismayed, but they said that we could come down each day and make a new request and it would be honored based upon availability. once in our room, however, even though it was classified as a garden view, we had a splendid view of the sea and the resort, as well as the gardens. the beds which were classified as "twin", were in fact, more like 2 queen sized beds, so we were quite happy and kept the room.
my husband and i come to cozumel almost every year, sometimes twice a year and have stayed in two other all-inclusives: cozumel palace and occidental grand in the upper-end rooms. here's how i'd say park royal compared: above all, the snorkeling is much better, especially if you head off in the northward direction. no one to blow a whistle and limit how far you can go as with cozumel palace. with occidental grand, it's too sandy to see anything for quite a distance, so you could only see anything if you booked an excursion. i have to say, however, that at cozumel palace, excursions like this were free, and very nice. in regard to food, i'd have to say that occidental grand was the best. for the specialty restaurants on-site, we had some fabulous meals at the mexican restaurant at park royal and some awful ones (ribs) at the caribbean restaurant there. pretty much the same for cozumel palace. their oriental restaurant was a little absurd, but the mexican one was very good. there is only dos equis beer at park royal, but my husband had wonderful dark rum for his cuba libras (ask for "cuba libra con anajo, pronouned ann-yeeh-ho) and i had really good margaritas on the rocks. the rooms at the cozumel palace are gorgeous, the in-room jacquzzi huge, and the in-room bar a real treat. the rooms at occidental grand were nice, but no view of the water, although there were in-room bars. as for the grounds, the landscaping at the occidental grand is beautiful, but we were there for the sea, and only one pool, which has activities in it almost all day, is on the water. the cozumel palace has the most limited grounds, and grounds being a bit of a misnomer, as it is really concrete, no sand. they do however, have a great big lobby glassed bar with lots of seating overlooking the ocean, which is air-conditioned. all things considered, our favorite all-inclusive by far is the park royal for these reasons:large variety of places(and actual levels of places) to lounge in the day, and number of bars: sports bar, lobby bar, 3 swim-up bars in the swimming pools of which there are 3, 2 of which are on the water, good snorkeling, snacks near the pool, small covered lounging areas on the beach, comfortable rooms, really good informal dining and free computer access(one has to pay at Cozumel Palace and although free at the occidental grande, it was often down and it was only available for the upper end rooms). We only had to wait to use the computers a couple of times and that was because Dolly, the tropical storm later turned hurricane was due over us in a day.
We liked this place so much we're bringing the whole extended family next year.

  • Liked — variety of places to hang out
  • Disliked — rooms very limited with king beds

This was our second stay at the Park Royal. Last year we vacationed three weeks in Cozumel. One week was at the Park Royal. This was by far the best of the three locations. This year we stayed for two weeks.

I scuba dive and had great shore diving at the Park Royal. The Aquaworld dive staff was excellent. The rooms are beautiful and the staff friendly and always ready to please.

The buffet meals were very good with a lot of variety. The three specality restaurants were outstanding. Men, remember to bring a pair of dress slacks for these restaurants.

I can't say enough about this staff. We will be returning again next year!

I can't understand some of these reviews on here, what is up with people??
We stayed here from the 5th July to the 19th, and we didn't have anything to complain about.
We were put on the third floor, and asked if we could change, so after 2 days they put us on the fifth floor, which had a much better view. It was as simple as that.
The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly, so I can't understand what these people are saying, are they just extra fussy, and have to have a moan. It really annoys me that some people just have to find fault. I think it is mainly the Americans who are having a moan, is there no please in these people??
The place was spotless, the staff spending every minute of the day cleaning it, almost obsessively!
The internet was easy to get on, no big queue's, and if you went early in the morning it was empty.
Nothing wrong with any of the restaurants, plenty of choice in the main restaurant, didn't see any hairs in the food of wildlife in the salad, that is all a load of rubbish, so don't listen to any of it!!

  • Liked — Very clean, fantastic air conditioning!
  • Disliked — Nothing

I traveled as a single woman to this amazing resort. The resort is beautiful and the staff were always ready to please. I was lucky enough not to get pressured to attend any sales presentations. I want to give a huge shout out to Ricardo at the front desk, who is awesome and was very attentive. Also, a big thanks to Louise at the pool near Aquaworld. The all inclusive drinks were amazing and made to perfection. My room was clean and the resort was also very clean. I often saw people working on the grounds to maintain the property. Check in was very fast (thanks again to amazing Ricardo). Make sure to tip the people who made a difference during your vacation because they only earn around $4.00 a day. I have stayed at numerous all inclusives and this was the best time I have had. Only desires for next time, Ipod speakers in room, need in room bar (refridge) and a 24 hour food bar. The night club was awesome and all of the guests appeared to be having the time of their lives. There were a great deal of newlyweds at this property. If you get a chance go to Aquaworld and dive. It is right next door to the hotel. Ask for the two best dive masters/instructors in the world, Oswaldo or Josue. These guys are fabulous and make sure that you are safe and having fun at the same time. I plan to get back to this beautiful resort which is the home to two peacocks as soon as possible. Oh yes, the beach is small, but still amazing and the snorkling is out of the world especially at night (saw an octopus and jelly fish). I made lifelong friends at this resort and will never forget the wonderful people who made this trip amazing.

  • Liked — Amazing staff (Ricardo at front desk), clean grounds, beautiful beach, amazing diving and snorkling
  • Disliked — No in room bar, no clocks, no 24 hour food services

We stayed at the Park Royal from 7/27-8/2/08...and loved it! When we arrived at the hotel at 11:30AM they quickly gave us a welcome drink and then checked us in! We were in our room by 11:45!!! There was a problem with our safe and we were told that someone would fix it shortly. Well, that wasn't exactly true, but after some discussions with the front desk someone did come...and ironically as the manager arrived [he had to change a code to allow us access] we developed a leak in the air conditioner. Within 5 minutes someone was there and it was fixed immediately! The front desk called every day after that to make sure that things were fine, a nice touch.
The room was absolutely beautiful...very clean and while the beds were on the smaller side, they were fine. The shower was the best and we never had a problem with hot water.
The system for securing reservations for the specialty restaurants was a bit unusual [12-3pm only] but since we were there it wasn't difficult to do. The Italian restaurant was by far the best food [we ate there twice] but the Mexican restaurant was really good too. We didn't go to the other one. La Veranda, the main dining room, was perfectly acceptable. Breakfasts were especially good. There was enough variety at each meal that there was always something to eat. It isn't five star cuisine, but we weren't expecting that, either. This is our third visit to Cozumel and our first at staying at an all-inclusive, so by comparison it was a breeze eating our meals there. We did go back into town one night and ate at a restaurant that we have eaten at each time we are there.
The pools were very clean. We stayed away from the main pool after the first day as it was the most crowded. I get up early so I was able to secure a place under the palm tree cabanas as I tend to burn easily, but I got earlier than I needed to...but it was actually nice sitting looking at the infinity pool and beyond.
With a cruise ship at the dock every day the view was obstructed for a good deal of the day, but it didn't matter. The swim up bars were great and it was very relaxing.
The food at the pools was excellent...even though they were just hamburgers, chicken patties and hot dogs, they were cooked right there and really hit the spot. [Especially if you didn't want to walk back to the restaurant].
While I have read other reviews about the "time share" people, we weren't bothered by them. One day a man approached and wanted to know if I wanted a rental car, etc, but I just said that we were there to relax, swim, drink and not worry about the real world...and we walked on. After that I would smile, say hello, and just kept moving. We weren't bothered by them again.
The staff was very polite, helpful and seemed to care about us having a good time. There wasn't really a language issue at all.
I don't want to say that you get what you pay for, because that sounds very negative, but for the value, it couldn't be beat! Having been to Cozumel three times in the past four years I don't know when we'll be back, but I would not hesitate in the slightest to staying at the Park Royal again!!!

  • Liked — The cleanliness and value for the dollar.
  • Disliked — Limited view with cruise ships docked daily.
