We stayed at Park Royal Cozumel from May 24-29. We had a fantastic time. The hotel was beautiful and very clean. There was always hotel staff cleaning something. The walkways were a bit uneven throughout but manageable, possibly difficult for those with a handicap just to keep in the back of your mind. The food was all presented very well with tons of variety, yes even for picky eaters. There was a room available with free unlimited internet access. There was a gym with nice equipment that you had to pay additionally to use and a spa on site. It seems to me that you should pay a fee for the internet and get to use the gym for free, but that’s just me. There was a 2.00 per day charge to use the safe in your room. (Kind of odd to pay for a safe, but we did)
Daily meals at the buffet were fresh fruit, some authentic varieties, oatmeal, and sweet breads and made to order omelets plus much, much more. You certainly won’t go hungry. Lunch we only ate a few times in the buffet and they had plenty of variety as well. We spent most of our afternoons by the pools on the ocean side and indulged in the hamburgers and chips at the snack bar. We ate once at the Italian and once at the Mexican restaurant. Both restaurants were just okay, neither one over the top but still good. The restaurants were adults only; however at the Mexican restaurant there was a family with a small child, so I guess the rules only apply to some. You do have to make reservations daily between 12 and 3. You can either call or go down to the restaurant. It is a bit of an inconvenience, but not a big deal……honestly where do you have to be you’re on vacation. Overall the food was great. One of the people we travelled with had a tree nut and shellfish allergy and she managed just fine. The hotel does not allow any food in the hotel rooms, so no room service.
Every day that your room is cleaned you get two bottles of water per day and if you want more you can either buy it at the sundry shop or refill your bottles down by the bar. The alcoholic drinks were made excellent with topshelf alcohol, not like some all inclusive places. The margaritas were my favorite. Dos XX was the only beer on tap, yummy with a lime. The people were always ready to serve and to serve with a smile. There were three pool bars, two at the infinity pool on the ocean side and one on the main grounds. The pools were always clean with plenty of room, chairs were always available and no the hot tubs are not hot. The grounds layout is on two sides of the street. The hotel rooms, main lobby, buffet and restaurants, one large pool and snack bar on one side of the street with a walkway that goes under the street leading to the beach with two infinity pools on either side, both equipt with bars. The bars open around 11:00. The beach is really small but has lounge chairs and palapas. So if you are a beach walker this hotel is not for you. The beach is more of a lagoon than a beach and it sprawls out to the ocean with great snorkeling. It serves its purpose! You can snorkel right out of the lagoon with some amazing sites to see. We also took a snorkeling tour. 2 of us snorkeled and 2 went diving. I was a snorkeler so I can’t comment on the diving other than they said they felt safe. While on the snorkeling tour we saw amazing fish, 2 eagle rays, barracuda and some starfish among many other colorful fish. The diving/snorkeling is right next door and the boat leaves off of the same pier as the resort.
The horizon is blocked by a cruise ship, but there wasn’t one there every day and to be honest when there wasn’t one there it seemed like something was missing. It was kind of neat to see the ships come in. That was this specific hotels uniqueness.
One thing I would say was a negative was we wanted to book an excursion to the ruins and we spoke to a man who said when we were ready to talk to him. When we were talking to him he told us the excisions they had and then after we were ready to book, he said I can get you a better deal, ½ price if you go to the 70 minute timeshare presentation. Well now ½ prices sounds better, but we didn’t want to go to the presentation, so we canned the idea and didn’t do anything. We just wanted to book with the concierge which we thought he was. In their defense we didn’t look any further, so we don’t know if there was one to book with or not.
I can see how the hotel may get crowded during busier months, but we happened to go at a great time and enjoyed every minute with nothing to complain about. We would return and plan to without reservation.

My now finance and I stayed a week at The Park Royal and LOVED every second of it! As we walked into the main lobby we were greeted by the friendly staff with COLD REFRESHING drinks. WE were surprised by the beautiful grounds and the activities which changed every night. Main pool was nice and where most of the kids were. Afternoon pool activities were a blast! Other two pools were filled by the two of us most times. Other times just a few couples. The private beach was small and the shore into the water was rocky but once out a bit it was great. Not to be knocked over by waves. The beach, however small, was quiet and nicely kept. I even proposed right there in the sand under one of the beach canopies.

The food! I still rave about the food. The breakfast was great! Many things to choose from and the best freshly made omelets I've ever had. It was nice to have different ambiances for dinner. only two of the restaurants were open while we were there but both were great and both had great service. THANKS NICE!

We also had help planning our day trips from staff at the hotel. we went into town and rented a scooter which we drover around 1/2 the Island and found a nice secluded beach where we went searching for and found great shells. We also rented a jeep from town which was not in the greatest shape but it got us to the Mayan Ruins and around the entire island. The Ruins were nice (very hot) bring bug spray! Walking the town was nice as well. Many gift shops.

The only thing that we would have liked would have been night swimming. I'm suer most resorts do close the pools at a designated time however. I believe the pools closed at 10pm.Over all, a great experience. We are now trying to find a spot for our 2 week honeymoon and seem to be having trouble due to the amount of amenities we found at Park Royal Cozumel!

I just got back from Cozumel and stayed at Park Royal. If you are going to Cozumel for any other reason then to dive, stay at Cancun it is where you will be happy.

The Park Royal was great, it was close to the Dive with Martin, who I recommend to go diving. The rooms where clean and large, only shower so for those who need a bath, this is not the place. The food was good and the service was fine.

If you read through the reviews and see the negative write ups, as I said in the beginning, they wanted Cancun.

Nine dives in three days what else could you want.

“Great Value for Middle Class Travelers”

Park Royal Cozumel

If you are a super discerning traveler who is highly critical of things, you will probably find the Park Royal a bit bland, commercial and without charm. But, we just wanted some sun, a place to chill, and some time to fall off the grid. We really liked the Park Royal. It had everything we needed, it was clean and friendly, and we got an all inclusive rate of about $200 a night, which rocked.

Lots of reviews on here complain about the cruise ship pier, but we rather enjoyed watching the ships come in and out each day. The cruisers never affected us one way or the other, but if looking at a ship is going to bother you, don't stay here. The room was huge, everything worked, the food was decent (not awesome, but good for an all inclusive place), and the people were very nice to us. We really enjoyed the variety of pool settings, and we loved that the property was at only about 50% capacity while we were there in May... we frequently felt like we had the whole damn resort to ourselves.

Again, this is not a resort for rich folks. Everyone there seemed solidly middle class, mostly white, mostly American. They had a very nice gym, a friendly convenience store, a quiet setting. The "time share" thing is present, but no one ever bugged us about it. Cheap cab ride to town (about $4 each way).

We would definitely recommend the place, especially for families.

Overall, the hotel itself was not that bad. It was clean, the service and staff were friendly and attentive, and the 3 pools were great! There are some things about this hotel that I was not privy to prior to booking our vacation. Not deal breakers, but had I known this information prior to booking I may have booked at another hotel.

Hotel "Memberships" - Basically, everywhere you go they try to sell you on memberships, which is their form of timeshares. If you are a couple between 30 and 65, beware. We were pressured when we checked in to sit down and talk with one of the agents, who in turn tried to get us to sit through a 90 minute presentation. Everytime we tried to leave the hotel for an excursion, the concierge would stop us and tell us what a great deal he would give us on the excursion, if we sat through their 90 minute presentation. Want a scooter? I'll give you one for free, right now, IF you sit through the 90 minute presentation. It was ridiculous. I was on vacation to relax, not to be pressured to buy a membership. After we denied the presentation, the concierge got downright rude and was angry at us for denying the invitation.

Alcohol - yes, it is included. However, the only beer they offered was Dos XX's and it was only on tap. And the hard alcohol was local, they didn't offer anything "top shelf". They also do not allow you to bring in any outside liquor, and to prevent this there are no mini-fridges in the rooms (at least the one we were in). After 2 days of drinking Dos XX's, all I wanted was a bucket of coronas.

Cruise Ships - they pull up outisde the hotel every day except Sunday. Not a huge deal, but I would have much rather been able to glance outside at the beautiful blue ocean instead of looking at a cruise ship everyday.

Another item that does not pertain to the hotel that I would like to mention is beware of the agents trying to give you a "great deal" at the airport. You are not getting excursions, rentals, etc. at a great price with no strings attached. They too, are trying to sell you on memberships or timeshares. I would say avoid them all together. They fooled us as there was a lady that led you right to one of their counters as you are exiting the airport. They ask you where you are staying and direct you to one of the counters, where they proceed to try and give you a "great deal" if you commit to sitting through a presentation.

Overall, the hotel and vacation were okay. I don't think I would ever stay at the Park Royal again though. I think there are better hotels on the island for roughly the same amount of money.
