We stayed at this resort from 4/6 thru 4/13/2008. We are members of Royal Holiday Club and joined it two years ago when the Park Royal was just recovering from Hurricane Wilma. This was the first opportunity we had to go back there for a stay after it was completed. We loved it! As with others, we arrived around 12:30 and were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was ready, so we were able to take our luggage up, change clothes, and get comfy! And the room! We reserved an "Ambassador" through Royal Holiday and it was awesome! We were on the top floor at the very end of the building, so we had spectacular 180 degree (or better) views! Our room could sleep 6, but we only had 3 and it was wonderful. The sitting area had a murphy bed and the bedroom had two beds. Both rooms had full baths - which was VERY convenient. If you go, and have the opportunity, ask for room 2919 - it was fabulous - except that the bedroom a/c never got quite cool enough for me. The other room got very cool, but I'm a little more warm blooded than most. I could've used more air - and the maid always left the doors and curtains open, which let the afternoon sunshine in - more heat - ugh! But overall it was not a big deal. The beds were pretty hard (extra firm), so that might be an issue for some. We ate at the Carribean and Mexican restaurants and both were very good. I really didn't think it was that big of a deal to make the reservations between 12 - 3. We didn't try the Italiano restaurant because we just couldn't bring ourselves to eat italian food while in the Mexican carribean. The buffet food was pretty good - always had a good variety so there shouldn't be any reason to go hungry. I felt that we got our money's worth with the all inclusive fee. The bartenders were very nice - okey dokey Luis! The pools were all wonderful - very clean and well maintained. We never had a problem getting chairs under a palapa on the beach and we seldom got there before 9:30 a.m. The lagoon/beach area is pretty rocky, so if you are only going to swim, I would recommend water shoes. While in Cozumel we got "talked into" visiting another vacation club resort in Playa del Carmen. It was a beautiful place, but it was so huge I wouldn't feel comfortable there. Also, the beach was very rough. At Park Royal, it feels more "homey" and the beach, although small, is very welcoming.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Although the walkways were a little rough, there were several disabled folks (in wheelchairs) there and they seemed to have no problem. I also observed some staff members pushing them around - nice!
I can't wait to go back to Park Royal. Our week there was much too short.
