This is our 5th trip to the Park Royal. We have been staying there since it was called the Sol Caribe. Our last trip was in 2002 and lots has changed on this island and hotel since then. Good things with the hotel and bad on the island. The hotel has always been comfortable and convenient for what we like to do in Cozumel. We were in building 2 in room 2702 and it was very comfortable and clean. The hall is loud but after about 10pm it was not too bad. We had no trouble sleeping. The room was spotless as always with a great shower, king size bed, plenty of towels, hair dryer, great a/c and a safe that cost $2 a day. We had absolutely no complaints about the room. The balcony is a nice way to take in the warm sun in the great view of the lush hotel grounds and crystal blue ocean. The food service is good. We are easy to please so we could always find something good to eat. The pools are nice but a little cloudy most of the time. We had no trouble getting a spot in the sun or shade at the beach after 10 am. Check-in was fast and easy. Everything at the hotel worked very easily and was a lovely carefree weekend. Although a lot have said the snorkeling off the beach is great…we thought different. After the hurricanes the snorkeling is just not the same anywhere around the island. If you have not snorkeled a lot you might find it impressive, but if you have ever been to Cozumel pre-hurricanes, you will find it sad and will miss all the fish and wildlife you used to find at along the reefs. Only mother nature is too blame, not the hotel. The water is super clear and you will see fish, but just not the variety and quantity there was just a few years ago. Tip…if you are around on Sunday night at 8pm take a $4 cab ride to the town square and take part in the Fiesta party where a live band plays in the gazebo. It is a great local cultural experience. This is a great hotel and well worth the bargain prices they usually offer. Just like anywhere outside the US, smile and greet people in the local language you will find hospitality any where you go! Have fun!

We stayed at the park royal in march and were pleasantly suprised. The grounds and rooms are immaculate and comtemporary, the pool areas are spacious with diversity, and the open bar is priceless!!

Although, they can improve on somethings: 1) front desk is unbearable!!! It always has a long line, they are not the friendliest, and seem unwilling to help. 2) the food is merely edible. Breakfast buffet and snack bar are by far the best. The other "specialty restaurants" are not worth the hassle to get in to. You have to wait till 12-3pm each day to make a reservation!! Come on, you are on "VACATION"!! when we were able to get a reservation, they were empty!!! uf!! 3) the hot tubs, need to fit the description and be hot 4) and the pathways can be a little less rocky!! If ur disabled, forget about this place!

Overall, we did get a great value for the resort and enjoyed ourselves!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Park Royal from 04.01.08 - 04.05.08; overall we had a terrific time! Like everyone else, checking in is a huge hassle, most flights arrive in Cozumel midday, which puts you at the Hotel around 12/1ish. We were able to check in and leave our bags with the bellman. We were told we could come back around 3pm for our room assignment. I came back and got our room number and key card, then went to the room. When I opened the door, there was another couple in the room. Apparently, they had given me a room that was already occupied. I went back to the desk and they gave me the correct room.
The rooms are very clean and the A/C is wonderful. Don't bother with the safe. They will ask you to sign something at the front desk if you want it for an additional 2$US a day. We signed it thinking we would use the safe, but it is complicated to figure out and we never ended up using it. I also heard another couple say they spent 1/2day trying to get theirs open. We still ended up paying for the safe at check out because we signed that sheet.
We really enjoyed the pools and beaches, there is quite a variety, each has its own atmosphere. They are big into activities at the activities pool. We had fun doing Pool Olympics one afternoon. The beach is small and it is a little rocky (watch out for sharp objects in the lagoon area), but it is quiet and has a great view, accompanied by wonderful snorkeling. You can rent snorkel gear for free for an hour each day. O, yes and if you do want an umbrella at the beach, you really do have to get up at 7am and go reserve yours with your towel. (Getting up at 7am on vacation is pretty hard to do. The rooms also don't have alarm clocks)
We ate at the Mexican restaurant, Caribbean and the buffet. We recommend the Caribbean; they had wonderful food and an awesome view of the ocean. The Mexican was really good too. We ate breakfast outside the buffet in the mornings. The omelets really are the best bet in the mornings. They always have fresh fruit and other options too. (We never got sick from anything we ate; although we only drank water from the restaurants’ and the bottled water they give you in your rooms)
Overall, the vacation was wonderful, we never had any trouble getting drinks at any of the bars (ask for the blue lagoon drink) One afternoon, there was a group of younger high school students and a couple of adults that were at the resort from a cruise ship. They had purchased an all day all inclusive option, which allowed them to drink. (WAY TOO MUCH) They became loud and obnoxious. The police were almost called for a chaperone that had passed out face down in the sand. This experience was annoying, but didn't ruin our vacation by a long shot.
Park Royal is a great resort and they really try to be accommodating for every couple/family or individual that is visiting their resort. We would love to go back and stay again at the resort and I would definitely recommend it to a friend! Happy Travels!!!

We just got back yesterday from Cozumel. The weather was awesome! There is basically only the buffet to eat at unless you want to dress up and make reservations at one of the three resturants at night. It kind of sucked to have only from noon to three to make the reservations, but we did eat at the mexican resturant one night. We got a great price for the resort and that was great because we went to Margaritaville two night to eat. That was excellent food! We did rent a jeep and drove to the other side of the island. We went to coconuts. that was awesome! Snorkeling was good. Overall we had a great time.

I liked this resort. It was lovely. I was with ABG (Alpha Beta Gamma) a business honor society. There were about 50 of us from around the US. We got to the hotel and checked in. It took a while but that is their culture. They are all about serving you but they aren't as fast paced as Americans. It took a while for my luggage to get to my room though. The Buffet is great. Service in the restaruant was perfect. There are three other places to eat but you have to make a reservation before 3 pm. The Mexicano restaruaunt was good but the Italiono was better. I didnt have a chance to go to the Carribean restaruant. There were 5 or 6 bars to get drinks from. The sports bar upstairs near the lobby stayed open till 1 or 2 am. There are also 2 bars to get hot dogs and hamburgers from. There are 3 pools. 2 are on the water with a beautiful view of the sea. I didn't go to the spa because it was like $70 for a massage. The walk way is dangerous to people with heels. When you check in they give you a lamenated ticket to get a towel. You can check out a towel any time but if you do not return the towel or you lose your ticket before check out they WILL charge you $25. The safe is optional. Its $2 per day. I recommend it for your camera, passport, credit cards...ect. Whenever I called the front desk with a problem there was someone to help right away. I have read most reviews about this hotel and I did not experience anything that I have read in the bad reviews.
