We arrived in Cozumel to find a driver right away from Lomas travel that took us directly to Park Royal. The streets are crazy with scooters and taxis. It is pretty much anything goes here, and I saw entire families on a scooter. Once at Park Royal it took a while to check in but I am well aware that it is Spring Break, and that it will be busy! Our luggage was stored until rooms were ready and then delivered to us. We enjoyed our first lunch while waiting to get into our rooms. The staff is friendly and attentive. I assumed it would only be that first day.. but not true.
We immediately began to look around the resort and were very happy with everything. The beach is very small and there does seem to be a lot of traffic at 7am or earlier saving the chairs with their towels. I was perfectly happy with the main pool as it had several activities throughout the day and there were chairs still at 8am. Corny music sometimes but tolerable. Staff tries to get people involved in water volleyball, basketball, and polo and aerobics. My kids, high school and college boys, thought it was fun and participated. The grill by the pool was one of our favorites. It had hamburgers, pizza, hotdogs and sandwiches and were good if you like that kind of food. If not there's the buffet and it has so many foods. You can eat healthy if you'd like or have desserts only. Breakfast was very enjoyable, especially the omelettes. They will also fry an egg for you. I can only report on the Italian and Mexican restaurants. Please make sure you follow dress code or you will be refused. I saw them turn people away. NO FLIP FLOPS! Guys can wear jeans. Make sure to get in line at 12 or you may not get the time you want. I enjoyed the Italian more than the Mexican but that could just be preference. Service is slow.. so give yourself about 2 hours for dinner. There is not much night life at all. There's Senor Frog's downtown or The SPORTS bar was busy with college kids who I thought were behaving just fine considering this is an all inclusive resort. (They did get kind of loud once it closed around 2am when they are trying to get back to their rooms but hey they were safe and not driving). My room was right by the timeshare people, internet cafe, and funjet reps so my hallway was loud. This would still not make me not go back.. I will just ask for a room on the other side. I only went to the night show once and it was not my cup of tea and again they want audience participation. The weather was beautiful there all week. BEST advice I can give is wear at least SPF 30 to 50, you will still come home with a tan. We rented a jeep and went sightseeing one day and also snorkeled at Chankanaab. Loved it! Check out was very easy . We are ready to go for two weeks next time.
